Okay , I will give you some what of the short version

My Mom went in for Back surgery Friday, she is fine but I have been running back and forth to check on her when Dad has been at work , Because of that my plane building has been delayed so I am behind on that . DS 14 became ineligible for football with only 2 games left cause he getting an F in Band ...Holy s#it Band ??? I couldnt believe it ..It appears that when he was supposed to be performing at the Varsity game he decided not to perform but just watch the game with his friends and he got caught ...Dumb a** ..anyway since the band director saw him he loses 65% of his grade in band ,,,which he had an A now its an F ...He is the starting receiver for the freshman team and Coach wants him on Varsity next year , they were undefeated till last week couldnt play and they lost big time ..DS feels like crap cause he let his team down , so he has been bummed ...other then that ...its okay ...Im stressed cause being a coach myself I know what it feels like when you have a player you need out there ...and hopefully this wont effect his aspirations to play for USC after High School ...Okay , you gotten more out of me in this post then over the last 6 months ....lol

Hope you mom continues to recuperate well. :grouphug:

As for band, I do have
sign0134.gif
to put in. While I loved band as a kid, and DD loves it now, I have a problem in the grading. What other class requires you to do so much OUTSIDE of the classroom. I know, other classes have homework and projects, but you can basically do them at your convenience. (instead of 12 on a Saturday, you can do it a 6 on a Sunday). You still have "homework" with all the practicing you should be doing.

Let me give you an example. Sarah has band this year that gets graded. It is broken down like this:
25% in class performance
25% outside performance (parades and concerts)
50% lessons

That means in class time is only counted for 25% of your grade?? Lessons occur once a week during other class time. If you can't go, you must stay after school to make it up. Believe me, I understand that band is a lot more than just playing in class, but I would equate it more to being on the football team. KWIM? You don't get graded for it, but you spend an awful lot of time practicing and performing. The time you put in directly effects your performance.

I know Todd's DS was wrong for not going where he needed to, but 65% of his grade?? Now he can't play in his other extra curricular activity? Just ranting as DD has a B for whatever reason so far on her progress report.

Note to DD: do NOT sign up for band in HS.....

OK your week wins so far... :grouphug:

He HAS to be in band ...the one request his mother made for him coming to High School in my area ...the Football Coaches wanted him there cause they scouted him in league play before high school ...Plus he has been drumming since he was 9 , private lessons and all ...you should hear him whale out LIVEWIRE from Motley Crue ....So that was the deal

The Football and Band Program at our High School are one of the citys best , and the Band Director loved the thought of finally having a student on the Varsity football team and also in Band ...He (band Director ) has never had a student do both and he knows Dylan has the most potential to do it ...

Lessons like that at this point in his life can only help him. I applaud the band director for sticking to his rule even though your DS sounds like a star player on the team. Usually those kids are considered "untouchable" by the faculty. It's a hard lesson, but be thankful that he learned it now & not in college. Marcus Vick is unfortunantly a great example of someone who didn't learn their lesson early enough. :sad2:

NO!!!!!! Not the chicken tenders!!!!!! We have to choose our dining options by if the place serves them or not. That is the ONLY thing that DS will eat at WDW.
Are you serious? My DS eats whatever I put on his plate. The only thing I let him get away with not eating is sourkraut. He has tried it but just doesn't like it. My DD also eats whatever I give her. I was looking at the kids menu for the cruise and I am planning on letting him order some things from the regular menu because I think he would get sick of the same old stuff. KWIM?

Before our doctor percribed the drops she asked if DD was allergic to sulfur drugs(the eye drops have sulfur). My Mom did have a reaction to a sulfur antibiotic and had to go to the hospital once, but DD is not allergic (yet known)

OMG! I am allergic to sulfur. I guess that I developed that later in life.

You got it! All sulfa/sulfur based drugs.

I am not touching the band grading topic with a ten foot pole....but I will say...thanks Lisa.

You are SO right Lisa ... I am glad the Band Director did stick to it ..Hopefully it is a hard lesson learned for Dylan ...He knows he let his Team mates down , His Bandmates , Coaches and of course us ...He went to school the following day and apologized to his whole team and coaches in front of everyone and also the band and director ...He said it was the hardest thing he had to do , trying to explain to his other team mates what he had done ....He also wrote his band director a 2 page letter just to say he was sorry and he would accept his punishment and would move forward from here in a positve light rather then take it negative ....

I know its hard for him ...but hopefully he will understand that its time to start making the commitments and sticking to them ....

Todd,
You must have been very proud of him. He sounds like a very mature young man. I can honestly respect a parent like you and him as a student. That is a very refreshing story. I don't even know him and I am proud of him!

Dead serious. DS will eat chicken nuggets & tenders, beef hotdogs, and pizza with cheese & pepperoni. That is basically it for main foods. For lunch he has a nutrigrain bar, pretzles, and fruit snacks. He wont eat cheese, bread, noodles, fruit, or vegies. The only fruit product he will touch is apple sauce on occasion. He does like biscuits & garlic toast. The only dairy he will eat is yogurt & that has dropped off considerably. Another thing that I have to make sure of is that NOTHING except what he will eat is on the plate. I have to tell them to leave the vegies off on the ship or he wont touch any of it. He was a really good eater until he was almost 3. All of his friends wouldn't eat much but he finished those mashed vegies & fruits all the time. He would point to the jars. He wouldn't eat much table food at all. I guess that is where the problem was. He ate so well that I didn't push him to try more of the table food. DD on the other hand always wanted what we ate and eats a wider variety of food.

DS will grow out of it on his own. I was also a picky eater when I was a kid but I ate more than he does now. I was force fed until I was 11 or 12 and I refuse to do that to my child. I had eating issues for years because of that. I would rather give him a vitamin if his doctor is ever concerned.

That's awesome, he sounds like a great kid.

I was thinking that the punishment for being both things very harsh, but I guess if it happens to you once you will never do it again. Will he be able to repair the F?
