We just got word that the teachers are supposed to strike on Monday - very disappointing and AVOIDABLE. They are sending out letters to keep the kids at home. What a message to send to K students and others.

elaine

When i was in third or 4th grade..Philly teachers had a strike at the beginning of the school year for over a month or so......

They had some substitutes at some of the schools (i could have gone to a non-neighborhood school) but my mom kept us home. DSis was in K that year.

I was always ahead of the other kids anyway...so it didn't make a difference...but for those who need extra help...it's not good

Yes! They're necklaces! Verrrrry cool, too. :thumbsup2

I didn't realize it at first either.....thought it was just the key. But when you look closer at the package, you can see the brown leather cord.

We opened them up last night.....the cord is real leather, but long.....I need to adjust it up a bit for the boys.

(I might have bought a gold coin necklace for me, too!) :teeth:

There were 3 of them there yesterday. Maybe I can run out in a bit & pick one up when I take a couple returns to WM.

Actually, I know of two other kids who are also threats in others grades. A 3rd grader was choken in class to the point that her vessels broke & her neck was bruised. The kid got 1 day in school suspension. WHT??? A 4th grader smacked another kid on the side of the face with a backpack in the hall for no reason & was just left to stand in the hall until the classes got back in their rooms. ACK!!!

What I have been told is that the title one phylosophy is that if you take that child out of the classroom they will lose instructional time and their scores will drop (IOW EOG tests). Why don't they see that if they leave that child down they will have the scores of the other 22 kids in the class drop because they are afraid of what the psycho will do, the teacher loses instructional time for everyone, and noone is going to get their work done??? :furious: I am really feeling that I am going to have DD moved. DS's teacher said that she wouldn't want her child in the same class with "that boy" when I mentioned she was afraid to go to school. :(

:furious: :furious: :furious:

Pardon me, but this just burns my cookies!

One kid is being nuts and all the OTHER kids are supposed to put up with it and have their learning time affected because of scores?!

:furious: :furious: :furious:

Don't get me started.

Believe me....the meds I am taking are helping me stay calm on the outside but I am burning mad inside. If ANYTHING happens to DD I will be suing the school or school board for neglegence and subjecting her to a dangerous situation. The administration is aware of the problem & they are "handling it" but it is not improving things at all IMO.

Thanks! :) Why is it that this thing slows down so much every time we get close?

Really??? I love shorts weather...ours is changing very quickly...we started with pants about 2 weeks ago!

Oh yeah...I like your new siggie with your name added.

Yeah, it's gotten a little chilly in the mornings lately but it's still around mid 70s in the afternoons so I'm still wearing shorts. :sunny:

The principal doesn't seem to want a BED class this year. That is where the troublemakers go for classes all day/year. TOO BAD!

That is what I don't like about this time of year. You have to have a change of clothes with you most days.

I would HAVE to take something to stay calm about this!

My heart breaks for your DD and all the other kids dealing with this. School is not supposed to be like this, IMHO. But then, I'm an O-L-D mom and can remember when about all the worse my parents had to worry about at school was the "threat" of having soft drink machines installed in the common area.

Sadly, times have changed. :sad2:

It was doing that last night at the Library.....driving me nuts. Took forever to change pages, post, etc.

Not sure if this helps, Lisa. This is a link to a part of OUR school policy that says that refers to sitautions where the child could be removed to prevent harm to others. I didn't read it all the way thru but your school might a have a policy similar...Kristina mentioned that if the child is in some special educational program (IEP) that may prevent them from removing him from the class for fear of effecting his educational needs.

Its not fair that other children are subject to this threatening behaviour so this kid can act out. The policy also mentions a Behaviour Intervention Plan....if this child simply has issues and no formal documentation of steps to correct his situation, the school should be held accountable. It would just show that the school doesn't want to take the steps to enforce their policies to the letter. They make the rules, make them enforce them.

Bravo!

Well said!

Absolutely!!

Sometimes you have to hold their feet to the fire. I think schools sometimes (sometimes) take the path of least resistance. Maybe talk to the other parents of your DD's class......strength in numbers?

I am having major issues with our school. I will have to elaborate more later. My biggest issue is that my DD doesn't want to go to school because she is afraid of a kid in her class. I talked to the principal about it & feel like my concerns were dismissed. I do not feel that my child is safe in the school. I have never felt that way before. :(

:sad2: That is an AWFUL feeling! My DD has been telling me how a girl in her school was making death threats to DD's friend and they haven't even suspended the girl yet.

We also had an incident at a local high school where a girl had an unloaded gun in her backpack. :sad2: I'm starting to get really scared myself with the way kids in schools are these days. :guilty:
