I haven't read the background on the jury duty thing but I can tell you what goes on in Atlanta. If you get Jury duty in DeKalb or Fulton counties (Atlanta), they don't care about childcare, prepaid vacations, work, home, family, jury duty in other locations, or illness you have to show up. There are a few exceptions but they are very restricted. In Gwinnett County, where I live, you can get Jury Duty delayed for up to a year for almost any reason at all just for asking nicely in a letter. I got it delayed once because it was the first week of DD's school and I didn't want to miss it.

Alright fellow creative Disers...need your help...

A friend of mine's parents will be having their house destroyed since the kind State of PA is taking over the land for a highway. They live near Philly. She is looking for an idea of what they can take/do as a keepsake from the house before it gets destroyed.

I mentioned take window moulding/doorframe moulding and create either a picture frame or mirror.

Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks!
It depends on the age of the house. A friend of mine keeps a collection of glass door knobs. Or, she could keep the cabinet hardware in a shadow box.

I had jury duty and I just had to call and pick my own time within the next 6 months. I suppose it depends on your county's rules. I kind of enjoyed jury duty -- I got to talk to adults all day for a change, I got to go out to lunch -- that's a nice change of pace! There were 14 of us that were in a jury pool and had to sit in a small room for an entire afternoon waiting to be interviewed. Most like me were struck down... an attorney used a strike to get rid of us. So the next day we were back in the pool. One gal brought Grey's Anatomy on DVD so we watched that, did a puzzle, and chatted all day. Not a bad day!! After 4 days I was put on call in status and they never called me in. I was disappointed not to be on a case. But the case I was interviewed for was a murder case and could have gone 6 weeks.. that would be too long to have to find babysitters!! Another time they pulled us for another jury pool so we lined up, went through security, yada yada. But the case settled before we even got in the elevator to go upstairs.

for all of you who love those men and women in military attire... here is a squadron of bored Naval Aviators aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and is one of the best "home produced" videos I've seen.

PS: That's the VAW-116 skipper dressed in the bathrobe.

I don't hear a tiny implication that we don't "work" do I? :teeth: Technically, I did put in over 40 hours a week on PTO business last year.
Lisa,
Last year I finished 7 years of not having a "paid" job. I couldn't wait to get back to "work" so I could get some rest! Isn't it funny how non "paid work" stuff can fill your day and burden your life more than "paid work" stuff? The trouble is you can't leave it at work because it is at home with you!

But, The school was lucky to have you there for PTO. It sounds like the current president is leaning extra heavy on you this year too. I hope you are pacing yourself.

On the types of stones that are produced calcium something or other. I'll find the paper. Anyway most of DH's diet is on it. He used to eat a peanutbutter sandwich everyday, have tea and chocolate. All of those things are on the list of HIGH producers.

Peanut butter is on the list? I remember the tea and chocolate on there. I believe cola and apple juice were also on the list. There are some things you'd never suspect.

I went to the gym for lunch and wow is it nice out!! I miss my w/o buddy, the time goes much quicker when you have someone to gab with. Had to watch the view...man I've read Rosie took it over and she really has....

I love jury duty and always hope that I get called!! It just seems that most times I get called we are going on vacation and I have to be excused! Alathough the last time I went I was in the courtroom but never made it to the jury box and another time I sat all day waiting to be called and the defendent ended up taking a deal at the last minute.

I have a question... if you're called to jury duty when you have a vacation scheduled will they excuse you? I've never had to deal with this type of situation.

Chuck E Cheese is an evil plot to drive normal parents absolutely insane. I refuse to go there. The two times I have been there have been the worst headaches I have EVER had.

I hate that place with a passion!!! I'm glad my kids are now getting older to where their friends are less likely to have b-day parties there.

We started out today in Louisville, KY and drove up through Cinncinati & Columbus, OH, Wheeling, WV, Washington, PA down the PA Turnpike then down to Hagerstown, MD on to home. We tried to wave in each town to our DISFriends.
That's neat! And you did it without becka's map!
But that's quite a drive for one day (but I guess you're a determined driver.)

Ooh what is that Amy? if it involves a sapphire I am ALL over that ring. :rolleyes1
I had the perfect 15th anniversary ring/mom ring planned when I was pregnant with DS. My first two kids are September and April (sapphire and diamond). DS was due Sept 10, so another sapphire. Beautiful 3-stone ring, right. Both girls were late, induced, and the due date of the 10th for the third should have been a safe bet, right? Count on the boy to mess up MY plan. Walt chose to be born at 9:30 pm on Aug 31, so no sapphire for him. (And sorry, I don't like the August peridot birthstone!)

I also wanted to do jury duty. I never had the chance yet, but I want to. Always cancelled or excused before. Call me crazy, but I think he it would be very interesting. My mom has been too many times to count. She always gets picked!
I was called and picked for a jury. It was all rather boring.

Maybe you should come to my church...the sermons are wonderful. I would feel like I missed something if I didn't listen! ;)

That's how it used to be at our church. Then the Pastor we loved left for another church. We just got a new one and (sorry God), he's a bit too "glib" for my tastes.

I probably just lost my corner suite in Heaven, didn't I? ::yes::
