I need an informal poll here . . .

Most of you are parents or grandparents . . .

Some even teachers . . .

So what do you think a student dress code should include?

One of my school board members is upset because another boy in his son’s 2nd grade class has an earring. He feels that is inappropriate in school, and his kids should “not have to see that”.

You guys may already know me well enough to know what I think, but what do you think?

John1

If he is worried about another boy having an earring , it sounds to me like he has some other issues...My DS5 has had one since he was 2 ... Isnt there other things more important then anothe boy having an earring ..Dang this is 2006 not 1960 ....

As far as dress code , yeah I think Khakis and a Polo shirt is perfect ....

Just caught up. Girls had piano and viola lessons tonight, so I Tivo'd Dancing with the Stars and watched it at 9:30 instead.

Now for my bid for the worst mom in the world award...
At back to school night last week, DD8's teacher gave each of us a large yellow star. We were to take it home, think about what makes our child special, come up with 5 special traits and write them in each point of the star. Then add the child's photo in the middle; decorate if you're crafty. The teacher is putting them up in the room so your child can see it if she needs a lift.... and we were to hand it in by Monday the 25th. And I totally forgot to do it. DD saw me looking at it tonight and said "I was wondering why I didn't have a star on the door!"

Yikes. I'm now crafting a colorful, glittery star for my creative, smart, energetic, happy, fun daughter!!

Can I just say I hate it when that happens! You try so hard to be on top of everything... and then this happens. I get it! Sorry!!!!

Thanks Kim. Hey I'm at 4P so I'm slowly catching up

Gee, you are almost at a normal person with pnemonia... How long did you wait? Do you want me to tell Lisa? She will give you the PJ talk about taking care of yourself...

Anything good on TV tonight?
The person who gets kicked off of dancing with the stars will be on tonight. I have choir tonight so I don't watch any TV on a Wednesday. I try to catch the last 3 min of the show when I get home...

I thought you were talking about your breath reading into that tubie thing... Then I figured out you were talking time! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Can an 8 month old comprehend "NO?" If I say No to Eliza she stops doing whatever and starts to cry. I guess she doesn't really know the word...just the tone of my voice...

Thanks for all your nice comments everyone!!! Like John said, I don't get to be like this very often, so it's nice just to tell people how excited I was about something without it being a topic of office politics. Thanks for letting me share!

Well, I've got a little surprise for some of you here today . . .

This is a link to a neighboring school district's handbook - with the dress code beginning on page 13.

John,

Are there not picketts set up in opposition to those regs?

1) in regards to the layered spandex shorts, Girls and guys wear them because "normal" gym shorts tend to leave much exposed during gym class.

(would you ever want the "guys" to fall out? or a boy to look up your dd's shorts while she is doing gymnastic type activities. Think ropes, bars, rolls, etc...)

2) is there anything i could send my child to school in for sale at any retail store? or then momons r us

3) IMHO That whole earring thing is a setup by non-liberals who fear that any earring on a male are a sign of homosexuality. And these people obviously believe if they allowed males to wear them, they were agreeing to that lifestyle. I say it's an EEOC nightmare just ripe for the picking.

I am a frequent reader, but have not really posted. We are on the December 9, 2006 cruise and I would like to find a little girl close to my 6 year old daughter's age, that she could e-mail and get to know prior to the cruise. My daughter is named Danielle, but goes by Dani. If anyone is interested, let me know.

I have a 6 year old girl. There is a bunch of info on the first page, if you send it to Lisa, she can hook you up with all the particulars. There are many 6 year old princesses on this cruise!!!

Elaine was going to WDW Thursday, I think it must have been Thursday of last week. I did not catch how long they would be gone.

I plan to order a sandpail for Aaron just because I don't want to pack one. Luggage space is to precious!

Long movies...many, many years ago (1968) we went to an all day movie. It was Gone with the Wind (with and intermission) and How the West Was Won (with an intermission). Like 8 hours of movies for just a buck or two. We were poor newlyweds and were grateful for all that entertainment for so little $$. Funny I remember that. :confused3

When we were first married and very poor, we would go to the grocery store and see which cereal had the funnest toy to play with.... ahhhh that was a funny memory.

This is a public school right?? I went to private schools and had a dress code (skirts and no pants until some date when the temp went arctic, boys wore jackets and ties etc). Unless the issue is safety I don't get the earring thing and then it would apply to boys and girls.

I don't get the concept on why people use rules because their "sensibilities" are effected and they in then restrict education. So if my child has a tat of a flower on her arm (not in my house but that's my family decision not a schools) she can't go to school if its not covered? It says no tatoos at all. How does that define her capacity to learn or others. Is everyone going to be unable to learn because of her tatoo? No headbands - so no Alice in wonderland attire? Facial/body jewely - I'm not personally a fan of the tongue piercing thing but again if it's not a safety issue they are saying that eyebrow piercing means I can't come to school?

I don't see the balance. Catcher in the Rye was one of my favorite books.

That is an interesting view. I never thought about it like that.

Sorry about the missing keys, V. One morning I had to call AAA for an emergency unlock because my keys were missing and I thought that I had locked them in the car (same thing, sure I had dropped them by the car seat the night before). But they weren't in the car either. Found them 30 minutes later when DD (about 2 at the time) showed me they were in the van for her dollhouse people. Guess she thought dollhouse mom needed some keys.
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I found my "lost or stole" debit card in the cdrom drive....

One of the things in the dress code said - no face paint or glitter.

How is that defined? Does that mean no make-up? I mean that is really extreme!

Don't you love it! My DH "lost" his debit card. We looked for several days. The day I called to cancel it...I found it!!!!

I am going to get supper started. Ham, potatoes, and broccoli. Later... :wave2:

I am a city girl so I thought maybe one of you would be more familiar with this subject. Someone here at work is selling a 1/4 Beef for $400. I don't know much about this other than you are buying the meat from a quarter of a cow. Moo! :teeth:

I e-mailed her to ask what this included and I got back the following:

We had a 1,400 pound steer slaughtered, hanging it weighed 975 pounds, so each 1/4 was about 243 pounds. You will still have some waste but not a whole lot. We had them mix the 1/4's, so that various roasts that are normally only on the hind end, would be put into each quarter. We have 4 bags with each quarter, one bag is about 45 pound packages of hamburger. From there, the remaining bags are roasts and steaks, we had the roasts packaged into 3 pound roasts, steaks were packed 3/4 inch thick, 2 per package. This was a large animal and was fed out for the meat, the other steer my son raised was only 20 pounds heavier, so it went to the youth livestock auction. I can look at the list tonight and let you know exactly how many each steak/roast, etc. I know there are numerous of each kind. The t-bones are huge.

I am thinking that $400 sounds like a pretty good deal for all of that meat. Has anyone else done anything like this? How much freezer room would you expect this to take?

Becka,

This is actually a rather economical way to buy beef. 2 things though, my parents always bought a 4-H cow so we knew the quality. We however, do not do this because we don't eat that much beef in a year and some of the cuts we never eat.

So if you are sure of the quality and you know the amount of each cut you will get and are ok with this... go for it.
