too funny!!!![]()
elaineteresa said:OMG - I just read the bear story. wow. I hope you find some pain relief.
we came home from vacation to a large pile of bear "deposit" right next to the kids playground. we had to stop composting several years ago because they would come and tear up the composter several times in the same day.
I don't think a bear would actually attack the kids on the playset - but who really knows. we see them all the time in broad daylight. we have to put ammonia in our garbage when we put it out for collection.
elaineteresa said:Todd - is that why you are building a plane? - WOW.
hubby is a pilot too. action guy. but alas he's not a pirate - more like a boy scout. shhhh!!! don't tell him that came from me.

I'll let you know how the Low Council votes tonight.
elaineteresa said:I agree about pics 2x per year - why?
the other parents look at me funny when I don't order the soccer pics. we seem to be the only ones who don't. the teams are formed from all 4 elementary schools and most of the kids we don't even know and will not see again.
we have to apparently pay for the pics sight unseen - is that possible?
ok, I guess I just have to suck it up about all this stuff and get with the program. I'll have to be a renegade about something else.

brack said:My first job was in a laundromat while I was high school. Across from our house in Raleigh was a laundromat. For $25 per week (cash under the table) I took care of it for the owner. I also got to wash clothes for free. Guess what my Mom did? Right, I got to do the wash for the family. It has just stuck and I do most of the wash for our family now.
Also, when my DW and I were dating she had to do her family wash on Saturday. If I wanted to spend time with her then I had to go with her to the laundromat. There's nothing like a romantic Saturday morning in the laundromat. The stories I could tell .......
I still like hanging in a laundromat with my honey.![]()
kimerinc said:I belong to a Gym. I even had a trainer for 1 year. To get healthy enough to have DD I lost 86 pounds and worked out 6 days a week, 2 times a week with a trainer. I was in such good shape... Now, not so good shape. So I still have the Gym membership, but it takes me 15 minutes to get there and 15 minutes back home, and I probably won't use it until I am fit enough for the weights again. that will be a while... I get what you mean about working out in front of people though. It is hard enough doing it without worrying what you look like while you are doing it..
BuzzBoyMom said:elaine - our school does it for a couple reasons. First - some kids miss the day b/c of illness. Second, some parents do a more dresssy/formal pix in the fall and a casual one in the spring (I am not one of these parents) Third, if the fall doesn't turn out nice, you get a second chance and Fourth - most important - it is actuallly a fund raiser believe it or not. The school gets a percentage of the sales with very little effort.

Here's something that happened at DH's work.
The new boss wants to hold an open house to show off her new office and department. She researched the cost of the party and is asking everyone in the department to donate $51 for the event.
Sorry, the Howard family will not participate.
kimerinc said:I seriously do not get the mile high club. First, my DD and I can barely fit in the restroom and seriously the seats are so close together is that really possible without public indecency?
lbgraves said:Usually the issue with the prizes in the catalogs is that the company selling the product provides the prizes. If they don't get the money (like with a donation) they don't give a prize. The PTO has to be able to provide prizes for donations on their own. We aren't allowed to give out candy as a reward.
lbgraves said:OK, speaking from the other side of the PTO fundraising thing. Noone likes to do these fundraisers. We all wish that they weren't necessary. However, the money has to come from somewhere. Our school is in the process of buying & installing new playground equipment. Two years ago we bought four pieces of equipment for the Kindergarten playground. The school board matched us 50/50. The total was 18000. We have 4 swings, a climbing piece, a balance beam, and a small climbing wall. That playground had nothing but mulch and a couple of plastic toys for two years. The 3rd-5th grade playground had four pieces installed last year with the same deal...14000. This year we are trying to get a climbing piece for the 1st-2nd grade playground. Now we are trying to find a different piece for 2000 less so that we will have the money to be able to use the 7500 grant that we just received. It has to be used on a new order before 11/14. We don't have the money to match it. The cheapest slide for the K playground is 13000.
In addition to these big purchases we bought calculators for the 3rd grade to take the EOGs last year, restocked the science lab, provide up to 100 per teacher reimbursement for classroom materials, fund children who can't pay for field trips or school supplies, bought security doors for the school with the special cards to open them for the teachers, etc. This year the refridgerator in the teacher's lounge has broken down. Now the classes can't have fresh snacks like milk, fruit, cheese, etc because there is no place to store them. That will be an expense that we didn't plan on.

Yay Caroline! Looks like you "Dissuaded" him!pyramid2000 said:I talked with DH today. He has a partial day off (I can't remember the last time he had a whole day off without being out of the state or country!!). He wants to take the girls to ChuckECheese or something, so we will be skipping GS and leave after piano. Hopefully I can get new tires for the van so I don't slip and slide tomorrow.![]()
Anyway, he won't be going with us tomorrow. He has to work and I told him I have to do some clothes shopping for the girls so we are leaving fairly early. So dinner is doable tomorrow and I won't have to sneak around any bushes at the park!!![]()
