Speaking of stupid fundraisers,
Here's something that happened at DH's work.
The new boss wants to hold an open house to show off her new office and department. She researched the cost of the party and is asking everyone in the department to donate $51 for the event.

Sorry, the Howard family will not participate.

Are you serious? That is the, yes bad word coming, stupidest thing I have ever heard. Lets have the employees pay for the company open house. Oh my that is a new dilbert cartoon, or maybe an office episode....

:rolleyes1

I agree with Lisa as much as people say they will write the check I think in the end they never do it.

It was also helpful to hear that everyone goes through the same thing - the rules you have in business just don't seem to apply to this school stuff. Kim, I get the point that they are trying to collect the money early in the school year so they have it all year. NOw that I understand does that mean I have to buy more t-shirts? LOL.

Why do you think my business is so good? ---v

EXCUSE ME????? She wants to do something to promote the company and expects the employees to pay for it? I do believe that this is one thing that WM has NOT done....which puts her very low on the social scale. :rotfl: Honestly, why would the employees be expected to pay for advertising? :confused3

He could write a book on this place. This boss is the worst yet.

We only sell t-shirts once a year. I guess someone could buy one later on, but we only send out the forms the first of the year... So, no, don't buy any more t-shirts. haha

Not the company, HER and her department.

Usually the issue with the prizes in the catalogs is that the company selling the product provides the prizes. If they don't get the money (like with a donation) they don't give a prize. The PTO has to be able to provide prizes for donations on their own. We aren't allowed to give out candy as a reward.

Still true here with the prizes, but we decided we would actually get more money for the school only and so we are providing prizes on our own. Sorry about the candy thing... We give each child a tootsie roll or sucker that participates... DD won a scooter last year for selling the most cookie mixes. She (ok I) sold 10 and won. How pathetic is that.

OK, speaking from the other side of the PTO fundraising thing. Noone likes to do these fundraisers. We all wish that they weren't necessary. However, the money has to come from somewhere. Our school is in the process of buying & installing new playground equipment. Two years ago we bought four pieces of equipment for the Kindergarten playground. The school board matched us 50/50. The total was 18000. We have 4 swings, a climbing piece, a balance beam, and a small climbing wall. That playground had nothing but mulch and a couple of plastic toys for two years. The 3rd-5th grade playground had four pieces installed last year with the same deal...14000. This year we are trying to get a climbing piece for the 1st-2nd grade playground. Now we are trying to find a different piece for 2000 less so that we will have the money to be able to use the 7500 grant that we just received. It has to be used on a new order before 11/14. We don't have the money to match it. The cheapest slide for the K playground is 13000.

In addition to these big purchases we bought calculators for the 3rd grade to take the EOGs last year, restocked the science lab, provide up to 100 per teacher reimbursement for classroom materials, fund children who can't pay for field trips or school supplies, bought security doors for the school with the special cards to open them for the teachers, etc. This year the refridgerator in the teacher's lounge has broken down. Now the classes can't have fresh snacks like milk, fruit, cheese, etc because there is no place to store them. That will be an expense that we didn't plan on.

Just be proud that your treadmill is available. Most I've seen have become closet space.

My DS, the perfect one, told me the average miles on a treadmill are 75. If any of you have heard of ICON, Manufacturer of Nordictrack, HealthRider, Proform, Reebok, Weslo, Image, Weider, and JumpKing brands of exercise equipment, they are based where I live and they know just how strong they need to make equipment because they know how long the average person will actually use it. Sad huh.

you guys are making me dread the school years!!

Todd - is this a plane that you ride in or a remote control one?

OK....now I have to get something done around here. There is a carnival committee meeting tonight.

That's why we always buy the warranties when we buy exercise equipment like treadmills... we actually use them, both DH and I and easily do 75 miles in no time. We've had our current treadmill about 6 months, a really nice one and the motor already seems to be acting up.

I probably should just join a gym but I'm not comfortable working out around people.

Yes sad, Maybe they should go ahead and build in a coat rack and a couple of shelves for later. I might buy one if it was manufactured by Closetmaid.

I belong to a Gym. I even had a trainer for 1 year. To get healthy enough to have DD I lost 86 pounds and worked out 6 days a week, 2 times a week with a trainer. I was in such good shape... Now, not so good shape. So I still have the Gym membership, but it takes me 15 minutes to get there and 15 minutes back home, and I probably won't use it until I am fit enough for the weights again. that will be a while... I get what you mean about working out in front of people though. It is hard enough doing it without worrying what you look like while you are doing it..

Do whatever it takes to exercise. You are already way ahead of me. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: <----That's the most exercise I'll get today!

You know what would be really cool, and you are right about turning it in to something else, what if it turned into one of those rotating closet thingies you put all your hangers on and it goes around while you look at your clothes.

Well, I just popped 4 ibubrofen so gee I feel good after exercising. I don't want to work today. Can you tell?

I seriously do not get the mile high club. First, my DD and I can barely fit in the restroom and seriously the seats are so close together is that really possible without public indecency?

I don't think most who would belong to this club care much about public indecency... :rolleyes1
