Ok, I have a pork roast or chicken in the freezer. Can I put chicken and bbq sauce in on low for 8 hours?
I'd try it. As long as the meat has some liquid with it and the crock pot stays covered, you almost can't overcook the meal. It just gets tenderer and tenderer the longer you cook it. Add some veggies if you have them too.

Actually that sounds really good. I wonder what I can scare up here?

Kim, yes drop the chicken in there and put a little barbeque sauce on it, low while you are at work. It will be falling off the bone and flavored through when you get home. :thumbsup2

Spareribs layered with thin sliced apples and sauerkraut is yummy too! I haven't made that in a while. The apples take the tang out of the sauerkraut. That is just spareribs, apples, kraut, spareribs, apples, kraut. Cover and cook until you get home.

So I need to look for turkey parts/breasts in mesh bags? I have not seen these at my store, but then I have never looked either. :confused3 Would they be in the fresh poultry section?
They are in the frozen foods section in football shaped bundles with mesh handles. Some are marked as turkey breasts (with bones) and some are marked as turkey parts (shreaded parts). They are usually sold in 3-4 lb bundles. I can get two in my 5 lb oval crock pot. Mom has an older 3 lb round crock pot and can only get one in hers.

Sometimes I thaw them before I put them in the crock pot and sometimes I don't bother. When I do its only because it's easier to get them out of the packaging thawed.

(I'm a really casual cook)

I make full on turkey dinner at least once a month. Stuffing, potatoes the works... So this is not a problem for me. I have never, however, made a roast. DH and I grew up with that every sunday and I think we got burned out. I have done some prime ribs, but no roasts.

wierd huh.
Do you stuff your stuffing inside the turkey or do a "dressing" outside the turkey?

Both. Outside for the dry and vegetarian members of my family and in for the others.

Thanks, Patsy. I will look for those. DrHug LOVES turkey and I don't cook it very often because it is such a chore. This sounds very easy. I am a very casual cook too.....read the basics usually.

I am cooking real meals alot more since finding out that you can put frozen meat in the crock pot. :) That will be great this week since I will be working at the book fair Tuesday - Friday 8-3. Next Monday & Tuesday is the fundraiser collection and take down the bookfair Tuesday afternoon. I wont be doing much for a while after that. My favorite things to do are just bunched together this year.

Well, goodnight guys. I have to wake up to the alarm clock in less than 7 hours. UGH! :(

Happy to help!
I'm going to bed now. DH has put a fantastically boring movie on and gone to sleep on the couch with the kitten. I'm about to rouse him, shut down the house and call it a night.

Kim, congrats on all your big news, Savannah's big win, Miss Utah, and managing a full turkey dinner every month. I know I couldn't handle it!

Mum, Glad to see you hopped in!

Catch all of you later

Night PJ. Hope you had a swell Birthday weekend!
