In addition to our grocery stores, we have four optical centers and a lab (yeah, I know, optical and groceries - how does that fit?). We've had those centers for over 40 years. We can do most lenses in an hour, or at least same day.

We really need one of those here. Wanna expand?

Ok, taking a stab at this... My DD used to be terrified to eat in school, she does eat now but it has to be a packed lunch that she watches me make. She has an anxiety disorder that has led to a condition called "emetophobia" which is an extreme fear of throwing up. She is absolutely TERRIFIED she will get sick and throw up so she's very careful about eating. I'm not saying this is your DD's problem, but maybe it is an anxiety related thing? I learned after dealing with my DD that children are developing anxiety disorders at very young ages and they can manifest in many ways and there's not always a clear reason of what is stressing them out. We still don't know what triggered this in our DD other than possibly genetics since I've had OCD and Anxiety Disorder since a young age as did my mother.

Anyway, another thing- I NEVER would eat lunch at school either, but that was when I was in high school and had a bout of anorexia. I know you're DD is young but is she ever mentioning fears of getting fat? When we took our DD to a therapist we also learned that children are becoming more and more aware of "society's expectations" that girls should be thin to be pretty.

I don't really know the whole story with what's going on with your DD so I hope I haven't overstepped myself.

Did taking our DD to a therapist help? Did you already know what was wrong before you went? I think you are right about anxiety, I just can't figure out which one? No overstepping here. I have no idea with this problem so there is no way to overstep.... I think DH understands it better than I do so I am always asking him, but lying about a corndog???

thanks for telling me your story!

I think we parents may be a part of this also, sadly. I know I am over weight and so is DrHug and we are constantly saying "need to lose some weight before the cruise", etc. When what we should be saying is "we need to lose some weight because being this heavy is not healthy". Take it from an acceptable appearance to a healthy weight. Now where is that soap box smiley?? :)

Oh I totally agree! I have lost over 80 pounds and gained it back twice since DD was born. Yo Yo Yo Yo.

Oh Angie, I know! Usually shorys and skirts have to be at or below the tips of their fingers with arms straight down. I started shopping Lands End because of this! The pants waists were getting lower and lower while shirt bottoms were getiing higher and higher!

Plus, who really looks good with pants that low and shirts that high. Models only.... and really how many of those are there....
