I got my uncle a book once that was all about where sayings and such came from! Wonder if that is in there? Heck, who needs a book. I am sure it can be found on the internet.

You can find anything through Google. :lmao:

Do you mean with a long A sound? I say or-a-gun with a short a.

I have no idea? :confused3 but most of us in NEW Jersey don't, at least those in what you might call the "boonies"! Those of us down here like to say South Jersey or Southern Jersey to differentiate where we are. Although, we here all the way south, think that even those closer to the middle shouldn't be refered to as south. :rotfl:

Oh Re Gun. Hehehehehehehehe. Most people say Ora gone. (Were she go?????)

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Anyone here from Bama? Or Southern Cal? Frisco? Dago? L A ?

Once I went to Tennessee and told my friend that her friend there had a very strong accent. My friend had only been living there a few years and hers wasn't as strong. Well she told me that her friend thought I had a strong accent. :confused3 I always thought that I talk like the people on TV so I don't have an accent! :lmao: :lmao:

And I can spell Tennessee because of a song. Anyone ever hear "Tennessee Dancing Doll?" My sister had a 45 of it. But it goes, T E doouble N E double S Double E....I always sing it in my head when I have to spell it. :lmao: :lmao:

Yes I am a geek, I know!

When I was a teen I had a pen pal from NC who came to town and we'd met and the first thing out of her mouth was "wow, your accent is weird!" I've never considered myself having an accent but she sure had one. :rotfl:

I'm from Vegas... Hmm, we leave the Las off a lot. Wonder why that is? :confused3

Now that is true! I think it is because we are so lazy and try to make everything as easy as possible! :thumbsup2

I guess that's kind of like the sing song way I learned to spell Mississippi. :lmao: M-I-S-S...I-S-S...I-P-P-I

Hey, I see a connection. "Jersey" came from NY and gangster movies, then you have "Vegas." Common thread! Gangsters and Italians!

Me too. I don't have an accent. When we lived in California for a couple of years, then went back to Montana, my friends teased me about my California accent. Especially the way I said "Quit it". They said quiddit, or qwatet.
LOL. But Californians didn't really have an accent back then, like tey do now with the different slangs and, like, stuff like that, ya know, fer shure.

I Love language(s) I had a professor that spoke 18 languages fluently. That would be awesome to be able to speak that many.

I had a friend in Basic, who was from Pensauken. His name was Richard Patterson. His name is on the "Wall" now, I am sad to say. Another friend from Piscataway. And others that I don't remember home towns or names. Also had a lot of friends from Pennsylvania, who used to talk about the "Jersey shore". We say beach, and you say shore. Yet we all still understand one another. LOL.

Now you sound like my DH. He loves languages too. Funny story though. DH can pass for an Italian with his looks (he's Egyptian). And he owns an Italian restaurant/pizza place. Some people ask assume and ask him if he is Italian. One time when someone did this he said yes and that he was origionally from Italy. Well, this man started to speak to him in Italian! Now DH does know a smidge of Italian, but he sure was caught with his pants down!
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

The look on DH's face was priceless!

True, true. Maybe THAT is where it came from! Calling it the Jersey shore. When we say the shore, it refers to coming to the resort area by the water. If someone is actually going to the beach, they do say beach. :thumbsup2

Ok, I am exhausted! And I put in my 25+. I must call it a night! So much to do before school starts Tuesday! Night Dennis!

by the way - that was 7 in a row and this makes 8...just doing my part to the big one.

Does anyone else think how funny our airport security has become. Don't get me wrong - I'm glad that Lisa got on board, but come on - ya can't bring a bottle of water or makeup, but you can get on without your ID.

I bet Lisa knows someone at security. What do ya think>?

They probably did a computer search of the FBI files. Or maybe they checked out the DIS boards.
