It was smooth sailing once I got off 95 for the bridge to NJ. As we were driving, we passed by a place called Cowtown. I had been there once to watch a tractor-pull when I was younger. I stopped to see what they were having there tonight and it was a rodeo. Asked the kids if they wanted to see it and they said sure. We had about an hour and 1/2 to kill so we went doen the road and had dinner at a Richman's Diner. Richman's is a brand of ice cream. We didn't get any ice cream though. :rotfl: Food was good though.

Believe it or not...I have to go watch BB. The THursday version was preempted here for a pittsburg steelers football game. Well - people were FURIOUS!!!! So the local channel decided to run it at 7 and then the regular show after.

HAve a great night everyone. See ya tomorrow.

During thursdays show we kept getting a message that our network won't be showing sundays show on sunday due to a telethon and that they will be running it at 2:20am tuesday morning. :furious: I hope my DVR picks it up, no way I'm gonna stay up for that.

We went back to Cowtown for the rodeo. After we got through the gates (it is held in the open), the girls saw cowboy hats for sale. For some reason I was in a good mom mood and told them they could pick one out.

Oh yeah. I know why I was in a good mom mood. DDs actually said thank you for taking them to the Aquarium! :faint: Not that they are unappreciative, but I almost never got a thank you without some kind of prodding! And it was the 7yo who started the TYs. They must have really loved it!

So each one picked out a cowboy, or should I say cowGIRL hat and let me say they looked adorable! There was a very fine drizzle so we went back to the car to get some blankets to sit on the wet benches and for cover if it started to rain. The rodeo goes on rain or shine! Well not really shine since it started at 7:30. ;)

The girls really liked the rodeo. Well, DD 3 just kindof played around, but she did watch a little. There was bull riding, bare-back bronco riding, steer wrestling, girl barrel racing, lassoing, and saddle bronco riding. They would love to go again, but it is over the end of the month and we have busy weekends comng up, so next summer. They even thanked me again!! We just had an awesome day! We did leave before the last round of bull riding to beat everyone out and it was 9:30. We made the last hour drive home with no incident.

For those of you on chat last night, we found out today that DD did NOT eat on Friday. She was lying about the corndog. She felt guilty and told us herself. Hmmm as someone who loves food just in general, this one stumps me....

Kim

I wasn't in chat so I'm a little lost... Why isn't your DD eating?

Well my parents just left a few minutes ago. They will be back tomorrow morning after they eat breakfast. I think I kind of like them staying at a hotel. It just seems less stressful. They will get here tomorrow morning, have lunch here and then we will all go out to dinner. I imagine they might come back here for an hour or so and then they will go. They plan on leaving very early on Monday so tomorrow evening will be my last chance to spend time with them.

The kids are thrilled they are here and DD is becoming not just Daddy's girl but also Grandpa's girl. :)

Glad you're all enjoying their visit. How's DD feeling?

I am not one to usually carry a pocketbook around because I would leave it somewhere. I didn't have my cell phone on me because I didn't feel like having it in my pocket and no one ever calls anyway. When I got back in the car I checked it and my mom had called. It owuld have been when we were eating.

Anyway, I figured it was late to call back as it was now about 10. But the more I thought about it, the more pondered just why she called my cell phone. I didn't tell anyone that we were going out. I am an adult! But I thought that maybe they had called home earlier and were wondering where I was.

I didn't mention we were going to the Aquarium because they would ask why and I was NOT going to tell them I was meeting strange internet people who would be cruising with us! :rotfl2: :lmao: Also, they would question why I would be going on a holiday weekend and at the tail end of Ernesto. TBC...

Caroline, I am so happy :goodvibes to hear you had such a good day! Somehow I just never connected rodeos with NJ though. :confused3 I just always have thought of that as a wild west thing. Very cool! :thumbsup2

She only had 1/2 day kindergarten last year so this is her first year with food. When she went to the University preschool she hated it, and it was only 2 hours, until we told them she did not have to participate in snack time. So this is not the first food issue she has had. Her dad is the same way and often goes until 6 or 7 p.m. without eating at all but he said he ate school lunch.

We talked to a psychatrist about this and he thinks hunger may win out, but I don't know with her.... I make her lunch on the days I know she will hate the food (like chili and burrito day) and she says she ate those sandwichs on 2 of the 7 days. All of the sides come home, but the sandwich has been gone.

Anyone got any bright idea's?

Ok, taking a stab at this... My DD used to be terrified to eat in school, she does eat now but it has to be a packed lunch that she watches me make. She has an anxiety disorder that has led to a condition called "emetophobia" which is an extreme fear of throwing up. She is absolutely TERRIFIED she will get sick and throw up so she's very careful about eating. I'm not saying this is your DD's problem, but maybe it is an anxiety related thing? I learned after dealing with my DD that children are developing anxiety disorders at very young ages and they can manifest in many ways and there's not always a clear reason of what is stressing them out. We still don't know what triggered this in our DD other than possibly genetics since I've had OCD and Anxiety Disorder since a young age as did my mother.

Anyway, another thing- I NEVER would eat lunch at school either, but that was when I was in high school and had a bout of anorexia. I know you're DD is young but is she ever mentioning fears of getting fat? When we took our DD to a therapist we also learned that children are becoming more and more aware of "society's expectations" that girls should be thin to be pretty.

I don't really know the whole story with what's going on with your DD so I hope I haven't overstepped myself.

I decided to call in case they were worried. First it was busy so I was imagining they were REALLY worried and calling all over! Well, I was right. Where had I been all day!?!?! OMG! I am 36 year old!! :rotfl: I do appreciate the concern, but do my parents ever know where any of my siblings are all day or do they worry if they call and no one is home?!?! NOT! I guess it is because I am the baby?? :confused3 I could have been at the mall for all they knew! I was a bit irritated, but like I said, appreciative that I have family that does care, but give me a little slack here! :lmao:

I wish I could find the article I read not too long ago on this very topic. It may not be the issue with your DD but the article made it sound like it is very common to see this with even really young girls nowdays. I remember the article just made me so sad. :sad2: I really wish society did not put some much value into a person's appearance.

It is very common these days and it makes me SO mad. :furious: DD tells me stories all the time and has for years. We've also heard from a therapist that it is very common to see very young girls with eating disorders nowadays. This is just sad time we live in where girls are made to feel that they must be stick thin to be acceptable. :sad2:

Ahhhh, I'm a little embarrassed, but our family always lets each other know if we are going out of town. I know, it's probably silly, but we just think that if something happens we would at least want to know where to begin searching. Funny because our olest will be 38 this year and NOTHING has ever happened, but still.... We let them know when we will be gone also, so it's not just mom and dad needing to hear from them, but them needing to hear from us also.

Oh, I do get that Angie, but I could have been down then street for all they knew. KWIM I would usually mention going 3 hours away, but you don't know my dad! I just didn't want to explin it or justify what I wanted to do. I know I will be getting it anyway. It was pretty yucky out to be driving, but I really wanted to go. Heck, I contimplated staying overnight, but I would have definatley told someone where we were then.

I think we parents may be a part of this also, sadly. I know I am over weight and so is DrHug and we are constantly saying "need to lose some weight before the cruise", etc. When what we should be saying is "we need to lose some weight because being this heavy is not healthy". Take it from an acceptable appearance to a healthy weight. Now where is that soap box smiley?? :)
