Plus I am very bad at fibbing or leaving things "out" of the story, but if I told them I was meeting people I didn't know! Wow! :lmao:

Oh, I do get that Angie, but I could have been down then street for all they knew. KWIM I would usually mention going 3 hours away, but you don't know my dad! I just didn't want to explin it or justify what I wanted to do. I know I will be getting it anyway. It was pretty yucky out to be driving, but I really wanted to go. Heck, I contimplated staying overnight, but I would have definatley told someone where we were then.
I hear you. ::yes::

The girl that lives next us, she is in fifth grade, tells Sophia that she is fat all the time. So Sophia is always asking us am I fat, Michelle says I am. Somedayhs i just want to go and get that little girl.

It amazes me how mean kids can be these days. :(

Heck, you can take the stuff about weight issues up with the clothing companies too! My DDs are all "average." They are always at the 50 percetile in height and weight. So can anyone tell me why the clothing size they SHOULD be in is usually too long in the length yet snug in the waist?? :confused3 Always seems they are made for the tall skinny type, hmmmm, like models are! :sad2:

And this Grandma wants to know why they make little toddler clothes to look like teenagers or worse like young adults? Don't get me started! :furious:

We were shopping with DGD last year who was 10 at the time and wanted to buy her a skirt for school. Well, her school does not allow them to wear skirts that are shorter than whatever their rule was (I forget the length, but good for them!) and we could not find ONE skirt that was long enough! Not one! We wound up buying her a really cute sweater and pants, but really!

Amy, I think you should have a talk with this girl and her parents. She needs to know that it is not acceptable for her to say stuff like that to anyone. I know kids will be kids, but talk of weight to girls is very, very bad. My niece grew up with 2 older brothers who always hounded her and she was a sleek swimmer! She just didn't have the flatboard type stomach and hadn't gotten her "womanly curves" yet. But I can tell it has affected her, her self-image, and her eating. I ALWAYS say something to anyone who mentions weight stuff to girls.

I think we parents may be a part of this also, sadly. I know I am over weight and so is DrHug and we are constantly saying "need to lose some weight before the cruise", etc. When what we should be saying is "we need to lose some weight because being this heavy is not healthy". Take it from an acceptable appearance to a healthy weight. Now where is that soap box smiley?? :)

That is the approach I'm taking with my children. I was overweight and lost 87 lbs. in the last year and I never tell my kids that I did it for appearance, I explain that I was not eating healthy and that was bad for my body and that losing the weight has helped me to live a healthier life. I never use the words "fat" or "skinny". I explain that eating right and exercise are very important for our bodies to function properly and to help our bodies fight illness and disease. I also make it very clear that it is unhealthy to not eat! Food is our fuel.

Stepping off my soapbox now. ;)

Oh, I have major issues with that! When I used to shop for DD in the girls section (I now shop juniors for her) I couldn't believe how short skirts were and how "revealing" tops were and these were for LITTLE kids!!!!!! :furious:

Oh Angie, I know! Usually shorys and skirts have to be at or below the tips of their fingers with arms straight down. I started shopping Lands End because of this! The pants waists were getting lower and lower while shirt bottoms were getiing higher and higher!

We got to see my DM at the birthday party today and she said her triglycerides have doubled from the last time they checked. Weird because she has not changed what she eats. But, her doc told her to start drinking WINE! :drinking1 He wanted her to start the statin meds again but she had terrible arm pain and she told him she wouldn't do that. So he said well, then work on your diet and drink a glass of wine a day. Now there's a doc I could love! :lovestruc

I had the same problem with DD. Now skirts or shorts were long enough for the school dress code, which here the code is that the hem of the skirt or shorts have to be at fingertips length or longer when standing with your arms to your side. I actually had to buy DD shorts from the boys department. :sad2:

And Sarah has just about reached the Jr section and I don't know what I am going to do. Actually, shirts have switch from too short to REALLY long :confused3 , but they are very tight. I want the 80's style to come back! :rotfl:

I know! Midriffs showing on our little girls with low slung pants. What are we thinking!! :sad2:

Yes, the style is long and tight now. DD got a lot of tank tops with shirts that go over them for a cute layered look so it's pretty modest. Sad thing is that the juniors clothes aren't as revealing as the stuff they sell in the little girls section. That's just really scary to me.

And oh I totally LOVED the 80s style! :goodvibes

I m lucky that DDs are great with how they want to dress as far as fairly conservatively thus far. DD 12 shouldn't ever be a problem, but DD 7 might be a different story when she gets older! :rolleyes1
