WILMINGTON, N.C. - Weakening Tropical Storm Ernesto poured torrential rain across North Carolina and Virginia on Friday, flooding highways, forcing evacuations and knocking out power to thousands of homes and businesses.
The system made landfall just before midnight on the heels of thunderstorms that already had drenched North Carolina.
On the Outer Banks, waves and standing water shut down part of the main road, and a roughly 12-mile section of Interstate 40 on the mainland was closed briefly early Friday by flooding, the state Department of Transportation said. High water and fallen trees also slowed travel in Virginia.
That doesn't sound good. I lived in Wilmington NC...their ground doesn't hold water very well....they flood easily
We can't reach a lot of people in Viginia...lots of flooding in offices we work with. One lady went out to her car in the parking lot and the water was up to her short...this was the story being told in our office....but I don't even think an outside office door would open into flooding waters that bad...but that's the story and they're sticking with it.
Hope everyone is okay - prayers and pixie dust to everyone!!
