So since I am thinking about dinner I went to look at the cruise menus again. How much does everyone typically order a night? Do most people order two entrees or two apps, etc? Do most people order an app, soup/salad, entree and dessert? Just kind of wondering what the typical cruise meal is for everyone.

I'm not sure I'd call my family "typical" :rotfl: , but when we went on our first Disney cruise in May 2005 (4-night), we each ordered an appetizer, entree and dessert. I don't think we ever ordered more than one entree, except once when my DH asked to have a small portion of an entree as a side dish. I think I ordered a soup and salad once or twice. The portions are not really large, which I like, because it allows you to try different things without stuffing yourself. We also ordered different things and shared.

Palo was a different story! Our server kept bringing us what we ordered and almost everything else on the menu! It was all delicious!

I think I would feel strange ordering more than one entree. On the last cruise I typically ordered an app or salad, entree and dessert.

Plus with all those extra plates it just means more to keep away from DD's little hands. Of course maybe on this cruise she will be a little better about that.

Becka, the sad thing about me is that I have no pride. I will do just about anything, try just about anything or wear just about anything.... That being said, it would embarass DH incredibly if I were to order 2 of everything every night. He doesn't even like to get the popcorn buckets at the movie theater even though it is cheaper with the drinks than the smaller size. So I really only do it when they have pheasant and scallops or something like that that I really love. I do like to taste the soups too...

Hi Everyone  - We have just booked this cruise. I decided just to throw caution to the wind and pull the kids out of school for a week. Also got a great rate (compared to DCL online) through DU. :thumbsup2

Wow! It sure looks like I have missed a lot! I work with Kristina (Goofyforlife) and she told me you all are a nice group. Sounds like a lot of fun! I'll send my info to lbgraves for the website.

See you in December!
Hi!!! Belated welcome!!

That is what happened to us. They could have rolled us out the door.

::yes:: ::yes::

Busy week and weekend. I just realized I missed last weeks chat (bummer). Just back from a 6 yr old birthday party. I love how the kids come out of the party discussing what they are going to do for their next party. I thought hey can we get through 2006 first?! So for the 7th birthday we are evidently no longer going to WDW but are having a party at Rainforest Cafe. Probably because we ate lunch there yesterday. It changes from month to month. Then when 1st grade starts and all of the new friendships develop I suppose it will all change. :confused3 We have until March at least.

Let me turn to all my new Canon camera geek friends for some thoughts/advice. (yeah, I know, I'm analyzing this purchase to death!). Yes, I will be getting the Rebel XT. My existing lenses (from the film EOS) are:
1) Sigma 28-80 macro (sigma can upgrade this; just mailed it on friday)
2) Canon 70-210

The XT kit lens seems to get mixed reviews. So I'm thinking body only, but then I think I need a wide angle lens. Also, the Canon 50mm f1.8 gets a lot of praise as a quality lens at a bargain price. And for yet another thought, DH would like a macro to take some photos during surgery (but has to stay far enough away to not contaminate anything!)

So what lens would you get to start: the kit, the 50, a wide angle to cover that end? And what macro would you suggest for DH? Thanks!

While the 50mm lens is very good for the price it is a limited use lens. Great for portrait type shots. The two that you mentioned give you a good range but I don't know about the Sigma's quality.

If money is an issue then do get the kit. If it's not don't get it. I have rarely used the lens that came in the kit with Rebel.

It's in Baltimore County, northeast of the city near where I95 and I695 come together. We just moved here two months ago from Oklahoma City where we lived for almost 7 years.

I think I know where that is - close to the mall with IKEA maybe? We're in Washington County, but used to live near Glen Burnie.

How do you like Maryland? I grew up in Michigan, but moved to MD/DC area in 1983. I like MD a lot! Close to the ocean and the mountains!

DS plans his birthdays out YEARS in advance! :) He always has such big plans that seem to change by the week. :teeth:

Heading off to get some laundry done. Have a magical day! :wave2:
Thanks for the reminder - I threw a load in before I left so time to put it in the dryer. One question - I have a front loader with a timer - why do I keep forgetting that exists? I scurry all week trying to get laundry done when I can set it the night before and would only need to put it in the dryer when it finishes.

He likes to shop? DH would rather pull his fingernails out than shop! I LOVE to shop on cruise ships, but I don't like to shop at most other places... I do a lot of online shopping. I don't mind specialty shops and Nordstroms, but Wal Mart makes me CRAZY :furious: There are too many people, not enough space in the isle (sp?), and it is too noisy! I swear the lighting is sucking my very lifeforce.... But LOVE cruise shopping!

See I was thinking it might be nice to try some of the soups, etc.. but I felt like I would be ordering too much.

We are the same way. I honestly think we'd do better if the kids had charging privileges and DH and I did not! :rotfl:

DH loves  to shop anywhere and he always buys the most useless stuff. We are already fighting about next weekend since it is a community garage sale. He wants to take the wagon around with him and go to all the garage sales while I am selling at ours. I told him the whole idea is to get RID of junk not replace it with someone else's junk!!!! :sad2:

Oooh, Kim I hate Wal-Mart!!! I try to go there as little as possible. I never seem to make it out of that store for less than $200 no matter how much stuff I went in after!!!! I swear it is a conspiracy!!!!!

Off to the grocery store... anyone need anything? :)
Thanks for the lens thoughts, Brack.
What lenses do you have now; what ones do you use the most?
I'll be back later.

Too funny Kim. I love online shopping. I've been trying to catch everything now with the last no tax day. What a great description of tough store shopping in Walmart - that is it exactly!! Then once you manage to get through it all you wait in line for an eternity. That drives me nuts but I found a secret (of course everyone knew it I'm sure). I go in the potting soil section exit and come out that exit as well. No lines no waiting. I had one item to buy and it was fantastic to get in there and get out.
