Kim- So far Sophia has just said she likes the fact that everything is neat and clean. She hasn't missed anything....YET!!!!

How long do you expect THAT to last, Amy? :rotfl:

When we fly we usually fly out of KC but we could do St. Louis as well. I know technically I would not need to buy a ticket for DD but I don't feel safe with her in may lap besides the thought of having to hold her for that long in a confined space sounds worse than driving. The cheapest tickets I have seen lately have been in the $180 range and that is just more than I am willing to pay. I really don't see us flying unless we can get a flight for around $115/person or so and I don't see that happening.

Becka- you have got to find a flight, if you drive you might throw yourself overboard once you get to the pier!

OK....is anyone else ROFL about BB!!! LOVED the POV comp. :lmao: I don't like the final outcome for the week though. :(

I swear Becka! The DVD player is THE WAY TO GO!!! :) We drove to JAX FL when DS was 1 yr. I had picked up a Blue's Clues casette for him. I have no idea how many times we listened to that darn tape that day. :lmao: The best part was that it kept DS happy & quiet. ;) The movies were the next step & we have gotten thru many 10 hour trips that way. Now they kids have GBAs. You do what you need to do. :)

It is a little over 3 1/2 hours to my friends house but DS made us stop every 20 minutes because he would claim he had to go to the bathroom and everytime we stopped it took forever. One time he even went to the bathroom and not 2 miles down the road was all panicky because he had to go AGAIN! We really thought he couldn't possibly but he was doing the little dance so we pulled over again and he really did have to go. Of course then other times he didn't have to go but just wanted to stop. We could never tell if he really had to or not so we had to stop everytime he said he had to go.
:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: We have the exact same trouble with DS...you just never know when to believe a 3 year old! On our drive home this past weekend I had to find him a bathroom. Once inside he said "I will wait until I get home to go." Mommy tries to not wring little boy neck!
About an hour from my friends house we hit some construction but nothing too bad although it did slow us down a little and then we smelled it. DD really needed a diaper change. I was not thrilled that we had to stop again but this could not wait. The only place to stop was a truck stop. Well I go to get DD out of the seat and her diaper had exploded!!!! OMG! It was up her back, in the car seat, it was just everywhere! We managed to get her inside only to find a tiny women's restroom with NO changing table and NO counter space. I had to put her changing pad on the floor and try to get her cleaned up! It was NOT FUN!!!!! It took us forever to get her changed and get the seat cleaned up enough.
:grouphug: Yuck!!! I feel bad for you! What a disaster!
Our visit was great. The kids had fun and us adults and we stayed up until 2:30 playing Mexican train dominoes! We had a blast - helped along with a few strawberry pina coladas. :) We finally got to bed and then DD was up by 6:40 so we were really tired but we knew we would be. With such a short trip it was worth it because we got to spend time with our friends that way.
We also got almost no sleep this weekend...we were playing cards and drinking some nice beverages as well!!!! Our DD was also up at the crack of dawn!!!

DH insists we will be buying a DVD player to help entertain the kids before we go or he is not going!
Do it!! We have one. It makes the trip about a million times easier! We used it for our 8 hour trip to the OBX and when we drove straight through to Disney. We also use it for our 3 hour cabin trips! That is a very wise investment!!!

I still say FLY, or you can do wht we do when we go on vacation to NC. It is an 11-12 hour drive and we send Sophia with her Aunt and Grandma. They leave the day before we do and stop at a hotel so it breaks the trip up for her!

We drove straight through to WDW in February. It took 22 hours and it really was not all that bad except for the last hour or so when DD pretty much cried the whole way. We left about 6 PM and the kids slept until just north of Atlanta. We figure we will do the same this year. Hopefully with similiar results but I have to admit I have a feeling that this year it could be worse.

Last year DS was in a pull up for the trip because although he was potty trained he did not understand having to wait to go although he did stay dry the entire trip. DD's diaper never exploded and honestly I think she travelled better at 12 months than she is now at 18 months. Hopefully 22 months will be better!

Wow Becka what a weekend! I would not want to repeat that drive in a hurry!

Go for the DVD player. You ALL deserve it.

IDK about other states but in GA you can dial *DOT on your cell phone for road hazard, construction, traffic advice.

Once or twice I had to change DD on the floor in a public bathroom on my own shirt because it was the cleanest thing available. I wouldn't have done that in you situation however, too messy. :teeth:

Take care and plan carefully for your drive to Fla and I know you will do fine.

How far away was your friends house?

And now you know why finding out what alcoholic beverages are available is important to me!!!! :rotfl:

sorry!

We got the AAA Trip map things for our drive to Florida last time and we will do it again so hopefully we will avoid construction that way. I didn't think this would be an issue because we know the area. I never dreamed I-44 would be shut down!

My friends house is only a little over 3 1/2 hours away but it took us about 5 hours to get down there and 5 1/2 to get back!

I keep thinking the DVD player may just be trading one set of problems for another. We will get one with two screens but then I figure they will just fight over what to watch. Also, I figure DS will keep trying to play with the controls and we will have to keep yelling at him. :sad2:

Don't feel bad. I watch the airfares pretty closely but they just are really high right now. I keep telling myself that the drive won't be too bad.....

We drove straight through one time. We are flying this trip. I didn't want to be exausted from the drive. When we go next June for my DMoms BD BASH....I think we might drive.

Yup Becka, the DVD player is a great thing. BUT, take my advice and never get one built into the car - or you will go crazy! Our car has one built in, which at the time I thought was a great idea . . . at least at home, I can watch the show - in the car, cartoons and movies without being able to watch make me crazy - none of my music, just kid's movies! ughhhh! So we bought Sophia one of the portable ones with some headphones (and she also has an ipod shuffle) and it is soooooo much quieter!

We once took Alex when he was about a month old to a wedding of one of Amy's friends out in the country. After the wedding a friend wanted to hold him, and you guessed it - exploding diaper all over her bridesmaid's gown - I had no idea something so small could poop so much!

This is in the church hall, and Amy takes him over to a table on the side to try and change him and get him cleaned up, and I have this clear vision of her taking off the diaper and a long yellow arc of pee shooting out of my son all over the place!

Of course, being new parents, we were well prepared - NOT. Amy forgot to bring a change of clothes, so we left right away, because all our kid had for the ride home was a diaper and a blanket!

Parenthood - ain't it grand!

John

OMG - it's hard for me to drive the hour and a half to WDW with everyone in the car - I couldn't imagine more!!

That was the defining factor in the Med cruises...the flight was just too long for the girls.

I was going to suggest breaking up the trip too...22 hours is a long way for anyone! :(

FWIW....DD started in with the having to stop every exit or less when we were in DC earlier this year. She seems to be getting out of that habit now...Thank GOODNESS!!!

You mean you don't get enough of that around here! ;)

Brandi is practically begging (OK not practically she was really just blantently begging) for me to come back and start posting again. It is just sad to see a grown woman beg for someone to post on a Disney board. You would think she was addicted to this place or something! Can you imagine? :confused3 :rotfl:

I guess since she is my twin and all I might just have to come back. I really will try to play nice but I am a Virgo and a redhead so I can't make any promises. But you can all be warned now that if they ban the  I am out of here for good! A girl has to have her limits!

:grouphug:    So glad you came back Becka!

The trip to my Mom's house is 3 1/2 hours down I-75. It can take up to 5 hours for traffic if we don't watch ourselves.

Still, it sounds like you had a special nightmare. :grouphug:

I did forget to mention one funny thing. DS always like to see motorcycles and he makes a point of mentioning them whenever he sees them. We were driving though Lake of the Ozarks and we were stopped at a stoplight and DS sees a motorcycle next to us with two people on it.

Look Mommy! A Two-Headed Motorcycle!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I thought DH and I might die laughing. The rest of the trip (and probably for the next few months) when we see two people on a motorcycle we have to say "Look, a two headed motorcycle!" :lmao:

So the trip wasn't all bad.... ;)
