Scary news:
A teen was apparently plotting a Columbine-style attack at our local high school. Luckily, another kid found out about it, and went to the police with his dad. Police found lots of weapons, hand-grenades, etc in the kid's room. The kid had left the district in 7th grade to be homeschooled. The suspect's name hasn't been released, but according to all the kids, the boy was in Elizabeth's year; she had 7th grade science with him before he left school.
Now, Elizabeth switched to an all-girl's Catholic high school this year, so she's not at the targeted school, but Hannah's elementary school is behind the high school (just the athletic fields separate the buildings). So, even though nothing happened, it's pretty scary to think about "what if?"
Oh, and even worse: the kid's mom bought the semi-automatic weapon for him (may have done more!)

That is so scary Marielle. I don't know that anywhere is safe - or immune. There are so many troubled children these days. Thank God the one young man had the courage to tell his dad.

So other than Angie, Vanessa, one other college football fan, and one Pro football fan, there are not many sports fans on our repo thread, so this comment may be lost there . . . - but I was just thinking as I was watching the NLCS - That series is what I would call two "expansion" teams on the senior circuit.

What at contrast with the American League, where Boston and Cleveland are two of the oldest Franchises around, with a ton of history.

I thought the same thing... like the Rockies and Diamondbacks aren't even real teams yet!

Kim,

V and family, Amy and family will be there, and me too.;)

I KNOW!!! That's why I am getting more and more jealous. And I will already be in Atlanta and that is really close to Orlando. But DD CANNOT miss more school do to the massive size trip we are all taking in May. (although seriously John, homeschooling is looking better and better). I have to tell you all that last week I had a fight with, not the teacher, the reading specialist who seriously told me that I was teaching DD wrong because it did not matter if she understood what she was reading, just how fast she was reading. I can't even have that conversation anymore. No child left behind is making me crazy. Her teacher was in tears because they only care how fast she reads and I have been working with her to make sure she understood what she was reading and I am slowing her down. I am one bad parent, I tell you what. So maybe I should just pull her out, what the heck, maybe I can teach her to talk as fast as me, that seems to be the goal.
Sorry, soapbox.

How very sad!

Sorry, soapbox.

This doesn't make sense. Sophia's teacher has never mentioned speed in regards to reading. In fact, the reading program that they use is where the child brings home a book based on the level that the child is reading at. They have to read the book and then they take a test on the computer whenever they return the book. The test is to see if they comprehended what they had read.

So what if the child can read the test questions really fast, if she doesn't understand what she reads she won't be able to answer the questions and won't do well.

I'm really surprised about the reading speed issue, too. While I have plenty of problems with what NCLB has done to the schools, that's not been a concern. Most of the standardized tests have some "read the paragraph, answer some questions" sections, so speed doesn't help on those. And it's all about the standardized test scores!

Braves????

The Braves are from Atlanta!

Boston will be learning about the Indians starting on Friday!

I didn't touch the computer . . . sat in the same seat . . . and now can't sleep because I am so wound up and ate too many chips and popcorn . . .

But . . .

WE BEAT THE YANKEES!

IT'S TRIBE TIME NOW!

I do feel sorry for Joe Torre. He is a class act, and Steinbrenner is a goof!
OOOOPS - Hey wasn't it late when I wrote that LOL!!! Please don't tell my husband! But just for sassing me.....no I can't even do that to you John. I care too much and the current score could be the Red Sox in game 2.;)

Well guys, I had to change my sig for a little while . . . how do you like it Carla??????

Last minute plans too . . . Amy decided long enough with no WDW - we are going to WDW from the 25-29 - super short notice to get a Disney fix. Can you believe if we make it to the World Series I will be flying down while Game 2 is being played in Cleveland?????
I DO like it John!! Great Signature. Not the best however but close. I so want to go to WDW in October. I'll have to live with my NYC memories of this week!

Today is my anniversary so I can't be on here long. DH was trying to rush me out to dinner earlier but I was slow. Of course I processed why! Now he is yelling the scores up. He knows I'm on line evidently.

He doesn't announce things with glee the way he did in the Yankees series. If they weren't playing us he'd probably be cheering for you John!

Becka - good for you on the DBA job. See, now you are dual platform with your iMac! Also glad to hear Nathan's teacher appears on top of things re his allergies. That must be such a relief.

Hey Carla,

Be on the lookout for some of these . . .

Hmm John
Rally Pie

How wacky is that Kim?! I have never heard about that I know they do those tests for comprehension in a period of time but I thought it was based on comprehension not how fast. Scary and bizarre

Hey no need to feel jealous of the Oct trip - I just realized we should have someone bring a macbook and we can set up a chat conference. We can show Becka that feature and we can all join in ala a keynote. The first reunion keynote. Canada would be a good background as well John.

Bad HS football game tonight . . .

Bad baseball game tonight . . .

Oh, and that rally pie video, they play it on the big screen at Jacob's field during the game.

Happy Anniversary Carla, I bet Carl is happy.

One thing that was cool during the game was the interview with Stephen King. Man knows his baseball.

Indians WIN!

Trot Nixon, the former Red Sock and Indians killer comes through!

party:  party:

13-6 in 11 innings and over FIVE hours!

Now it is a best of 5 series, with the next THREE games in Cleveland!

Wahoooooooo!!!!!!!
