Well we got back from Nathan's allergy testing and the verdicts are in. He is allergic to the following:

Foods: corn, potato, tomato, wheat, egg white, soy, milk, pork, barley, malt
Non-Foods: grass, pigweed, ragweed, elm, feathers, candida

:scared1:

We have a lot to learn I am afraid. His allergist wants to focus on the milk and corn allergies right now so we have to eliminate all of that from his diet. The milk will be hard but I think it is doable. She warned us with the corn to avoid high fructose corn syrup. That stuff is in EVERYTHING!!!! This is going to be very difficult.

DS is already quite upset because several of his favorite foods are now not allowed. It is hard for a 4 year old to understand that is making him sick.

I don't wish bad luck on anyone else but I think I have had my fair share by now. I just really want to get off this ride I am apparently on.

Wow Becka!! If you think high fructose corn syrup is hard, wait til they try taking away the wheat! How do these effect him? Is it that serious for a total ban? I know a friend's son was tested and told he was slightly allergic to PB and that it was causing his exima (sp?), but it turned out it didn't matter if he had PB or not.

This has been fun catching up here today!:goodvibes I will not let it go that long again!

I almost forgot Becka. When I an the other thread, Dina kind of just wanders past without any interest. Then as soon as I came here she was walking by and saw Nathan. Of course she had to come right on my lap to see who else was on the computer!

Brack and Marielle are probably watching the big game!! Duke vs North Carolina!

I have to say I have always been a huge Coach K fan! I hope I don't get banned!!

Oh, and I really thought you were a nice person. How can someone as nice as you like that foul-mouthed RAT??

Sorry, the game is not going well right now.

Becka,
on a lighter note about the allergies.... did anyone else notice that, based on that list, Nathan can't have beer? Good for future reference.

I am nice, honestly!!

Sounds like you are getting back to your old self! Savannah wants to know if Sophia got to play all day long because she did not have to go to school. Then she asked how cold it has to be here before she does not have to go to school..:rotfl2:

I'm not watching the game 'cause I just got back home from my road trip. I left at noon on Sunday for Charleston, WV and arrived just in time for kickoff. Up early on Monday for a meeting in Charleston then off to Clarksburg for a three hour meeting. We left there at 5:30, stopped in Morgantown, WV for dinner and then drove over the mounntains to Hagerstown, MD for the night. On the trip the temp read a -3 degrees!. Tuesday we had a three hour meeting in Frederick and then had a three hour meeting in Baltimore.

I get home on Tuesday night at 5:30PM ..... at 6:30PM Annette, JoJo and I get in the car to drive to New Bern, NC. We arrive in New Bern at 1:30AM and stay at the worst Days Inn there is. I wished that I had Lisa's number and had brought Bobby but I really did not have any time. :sad1: The next morning I am a pallbearer for a retired Officer. The funeral is finished at 1PM and we head back to Baltimore. We have been home only about two hours now.

I am really tired! Tomorrow I have one of the auditors from our headquarters for the day and then Annette, JoJo and I are going to visit grandma in NC.

No relief in sight ..... :scared:

Lisa will be so disappointed that you didn't get to call, but it doesn't sound like you had much time.

Sophia has a reaction to Peanut Butter, not the deadly kind, thank goodness, but if she eats too much she will get a sore stomach. She has several items that will cause rashes or just make her feel yucky if she eats too much.

Of course outside of food Sophia's biggest things are bunnies, and horses, her favorites. She always insist on going to the bunny hut at the fairs and she loves to rides ponies! Makes her break out and her asthma acts up. I hope she will grow out of it!!
Fortunately no food allergy with Isabella (unlike me), Carl's cousin has many of the ones your son has Becka. Funny story on the bunnies and horses Amy. Isabella (like me) is allergic to all animals except rabbits. We thought how fun to ride the ponies at the fair and before she was tested we couldn't figure out why she was sneezing so much not at the time but after the fact. Anyway on the bunnies - How odd huh. There was a bunnie in preschool. I said hey at least she can wear angora sweaters when that trend comes back. It used to kill me.

I am.... Back to work next week, oh where is that sad smile!! Oh well ....
I am pain free, in fact I sit and wait for the pain to come. It has been since April since I have not been in pain and I almost forgot what it felt like. I am afraid it won't last!!

John actually wants me to start working around the house, can you believe that???? I mean really... I know I have been doing nothing since..... Christmas but why start now????

I know she is most concerned about the milk/dairy and corn allergies and that is why we are eliminating those entirely over the next 3 months....somehow... :confused3

He will start taking the drops next week for 6 weeks. I think the ultimate goal is to kind of "detox" him, do the drops to develop some better responses to the allergens and then very carefully monitor him and put him on a kind of rotation diet. This way he may fine that he can eat bowl of cereal with milk maybe once a week or that he can have pasta with tomato sauce every 4-5 days.

Nathan has never been a very picky eater so that will help but I just feel so bad for him. So many of his favorite foods are not forbidden and he is just so sad. DH has allergies to legumes so at least Nathan understands about allergies making people sick a little but it is still hard to look at his face when I tell him that chocolate milk, Frosted Flakes (heck every cereal we have in the house currently has corn syrup in it), ice cream, lasagna, yogurt, etc.. is not something he can't have. It just breaks my heart for him.

DrHug has been on a "high fructose corn syrup is a killer campaign" for a couple of years now. Diabetes, obesity, lots of health problems have been dramatically on the rise since all the companies switched from real sugar to this. It was an economical decision and I am sure they had no idea what the outcome was going to be. Trans fats probably kill far fewer people than HFCS, but..... our soapbox here!

Hey Carla,

Got my new airport express 802-11n . . . still trying to figure out how to access the hard disks though . . . not enough time!

One cool thing though. BOTH printers I have on the USB hub are now accessible.

Have you seen the Heroes cheerleader on the Disney Channel singing the new Cinderella song?

Oh - "Sophia from the cruise not Sophia from school" was in DD's dream last night. Evidently it was "fantastic and the best dream ever" Also in it were her cousin whom she adores and another friend from school.

BECKA, do not laugh!
