I get a weekly update about how your baby will be behaving. Here is the one I just got:

If your child gets upset when you leave her now, she's right on schedule. Twelve to 18 months is prime time for separation anxiety — a psychological term that means your toddler can't bear to be without you.
The best way to handle painful farewells is to keep them short and sweet. Say goodbye with a quick kiss and head out the door. Don't sneak out, but don't prolong the agony with extended hugging and comforting. Your toddler's tears will subside soon after you're out of sight. It's hard not to feel guilty, but in the long run you'll help your child become more independent if you don't hover.

GREAT!!!! Just what I need to read when I am gearing up to leave her.

what is enrichment exactly? I know what the term means but what is it in terms of the classroom?

is 7th a separate middle school in your district?

In our elementary schools, enrichment is a totally seperate class. In Sarah's grade, there weer enough who qualified for them to make 2 and a half classes until 6th grade, where they scaled it down to two. Generally, it is a class that is about 95% kids who score exceptionally well on standardized tests, plus get recommended by their teacher (there are always a few kids in the class who are at the other end of the spectrum too). The kids followed each other through 4th - 6th. Supposedly they get harder work, but I didn't really see that too much. 6th grade was the best for Sarah because she went to 3 different teachers and her math teacher was great! He really challenged them. I would have asked for her to be in his class all day, except he wasn't a full-time enrichment teacher.

I really like the way our school district works. Pre-K through 6th is one district while 7th - 12th is a regional district. In the elementary one, there are 4 different schools: pre-K and 1st, 2nd and 3rd, etc. When they move on to the other district, the junior high is 7th and 8th while the high school is 9th - 12th. They aren't in a school or on a bus with kids more than a year ahead or behind them until high school! It has really kept certain "issues" to a minimum.

you two are so photogenic - all your pics come out great.

I don't know how anyone gets that many pics taken - lol. I am lucky to get 4 or 5. I just don't have the patience to wait - do you get any rides in or just pics?

We ride and do other things as well.

You have to remember that we do not have kids that get tired (our child will be 34yo in March) so we can go all day. DW and I have been known to not only close a park down but to stay for a couple of hours after closing. You can get some great pictures when no one else is around to mess up the shot!

Well we are all hunkered down here. DH's work let out at noon and mine at 3:30 but my boss came around and told our team about 2:45 that we should get out of there and get home. Hopefully the kids will behave and we won't be stuck home for more than a couple of days. The latest forecasts have us getting 1/4 - 1 inch of ice by Sunday evening. My only really worry is that we could lose power. We have always had good luck and kept our power during previous storms but this one is a bit bigger than anything we have seen since we moved here.

Becka, I just saw a post on the CB that the boy who was taken Tuesday was found with another boy who disappeared in 2002!!! Is that close to you?

Just to give you an idea of the differences. In Newport News VA they have enrichment classes also for the Elementary kids in grades 3 - 5. (they go to middle school for 6th). Here the enrichment classes are Technology, Music, Art and P/E. The kids sign up at the beginning of the school year and attend the class once a week. after the selection process 1 class for each of Music, Art, and Technology is filled. Those not making the "cut" attend P/E. All students attend Art, music and P/e with their class but these are extra classes with a more advance study for those in that area.

do you have enough flashlights and batteries just in case? this is when you really don't want to have bought a whole cow.

we actually bought a generator - we ran out of propane the first night we spent in this house and after 9/11, Ken had to have one.

this only means that you will have to join in the school discussions now Becka.

I went to Walmart to have lunch with DrHug today (that's where he was working today). We laughed because we both had the same thought that this was a good practice lunch for us for retirement when we go live at the Walmarts! :lmao: We shared a subway footlong meal. Shared the drink as well as the chips and the sandwich. :sad2: Practicing for retirement for sure.

I did a bucket at PI and stored the cups in there. It was my first bucket and I think my last, it was really really strong, lol.
