I want a dream too!!!

Hey, has anyone done the DL electrical parade light summer meal thing? You get reserved seats and snacks for the electrical parade at DCL. I called about it today. Angie, wanna try it? Have you already done it? Does everyone else want to try this after thier repo or before?

I called and reserved Club Libby Lu. Oh my I am scared. I am glad John and Amy are praying for me. If we get out of there without spending $100 I will be impressed. I am glad there is not one here.

WOW!!! I never knew that schools covered some of those costs! Also what the fluff about the school not letting PTO do a fundraiser? :confused3

It has always been this way. I was under the impression that a public school could not charge families for anything extra at school, such as field trips? Just as they can not require certain materials be brought in by students (pencils, paper, etc)? At least this is how it is around here at the elementary school level.

We might want to do the thing you mentioned after the Repo cruise.

$100???? :lmao:

Everywhere is different - just like funding is different everywhere. We have a yearly "materials" fee for each grade even before the current financial difficulties. It defrays the cost of special supplies . . . art paper, science materials, etc. About $30 per child. Some upper (HS) classes have lab fees too.

I guess things vary by state. :confused3 We have always had a supply list for each grade. Last year they did say that the teachers couldn't ask for things for the classroom like zip lock bags, tissues, hand soap, etc.

We pay for field trips... they are usually $5-$10. At last I heard, our PTA did not subsidize field trip fees because they didn't think they could pay for EVERY child who couldn't afford it, and didn't want to seem like they were playing favorites across all the grades. However, the PTA does sponsor special speakers and programs that are brought to the schools (and they are not necessarily presented to all grade levels).

As far as the classroom, the kids have never been given a supply list in the 2 years we've been at the school. The teachers usually ask for things like hand sanitizer, glue sticks and kleenex, but I usually have to drag it out of his teacher if she wants anything else... I know they pay for alot out of pocket on top of what they are allocated to get....

Holy Moley! We pay for every field trip (museum entrance fee, etc) and we send not only paper, pencils, notebooks, scissors, crayons, colored pencils, rulers, etc but we also have to send boxes and boxes of kleenex.

Just an FYI . . .

I asked our treasurer, and the elimination of field trips saved us $75,000 this year. Most of the savings was in transportation - fuel and driver pay.

That saves 1+ teacher's job.

Vanessa, the TF has been trying to lift spirits on the EB thread after the terrible week we had. :(

Maybe it was that they had less than 10,000 posts last week?

:lmao:

(just kidding Lisa)

Where are you, Angie? :lmao: The weather is going to be warmer this week. It was 40 when I took the kids to school this morning and it will be in the 60s during the day. I wish that it would just stay cold & get that over with first.

I think I am probably about to get really PO'd at the daycare. It is possible that Nathan is lying but the way he is talking it would surprise me. He said that today during lunch they gave him some CORN to eat!!! :furious: :furious: He says it was not one of his regular teachers so that would make sense although the allergy list is posted in each classroom. I don't know why he would lie about it so tomorrow I have to talk to the teachers/director to find out what happened. AAAAARRRRGGGGG!

oh Becka...there is no excuse for that at all. Even with a sub....don't they have more than one teacher in the room? And our daycare has a dedicated chef.....who knows all the allergies per room and has specific instructions for vacations/sick days.

You guys will think I am a nut (if you don't already) but I love having a daughter because I will get to do things like Club Libby Lu when she gets bigger. That kind of thing excites me as a mommy!!!!

Many of our teachers ask for things like baggies, tissues, hand sanitizer...etc. The parents don't have to send it in, but if they don't the kids won't have those things to use all year. It gets expensive for the teacher to always have to buy those things out of pocket. You would be amazed at the amount of tissues kids use in an average day!!!!

I love having girls....but they are so expensive and --- it's a freakin' slumber party every night!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My goodness - any time a WDW commercial comes on the squealing is absolutely UNREAL~!

on a side note - HALEY - she really hasn't really spoken a whole lot - and I attribute that to her parental laziness and the binky issue, but holy cow - WOW - she is so talking up a storm and her little voice is just so heart squishing!!

I get her first at school and she'll say "mantha, mantha 'here are you" (missing a few letters)
