they look so cute Becka!!! Here's Jackson as a dalmation when he was almost 2, and JP was the fireman at almost 4 yrs old. Notice the stack of boxes, we moved into our house that day.

Ok, I noticed two things on the main board. One was that the shuttle is now scheduled to launch on Dec 7 (good or bad depending on how you look at it).

The other is that people get to the port before 8:45?!?!?! :confused3 Someone posted that is the time they got there and they were second in line. Another posted they arrived by 10 and there were 30 people already in line (6-8 families). All I thought was WOW!!

Patsy -- I just noticed your tag "Let's just keep the bananas as our little secret"... ROFL!!!

thanks to everyone who gave me :grouphug: last night. I went in today and opened the office again and closed it. My boss did finally come in and we sat down and talked. our budget is extremely tight right now. I thought he might offer a small bonus or something to make up for all the extra time and stress. he basically said that there is very little we can do. we can't pay out the vacation because our personnel policies prohibit that. we can't carryover the vacation time because our personnel policies prohibit that. he did say that if I run out of vacation time next year he would grant me an additional week without any problem. I tried to explain to him that there was no way I would run out of vacation time. I tried to explain to him that I can't take what I earn because of the way the office is structured and operates. He just doesn't get it. I actually did feel better after talking with him because at one point I told him that I was planning on coming in today and telling him he had to do my job for a week without me. He said "there is no way I can do what you do". that did make me feel that he does realize how much I do. I can't wait until Dec 8th. We leave for Indy and catch a plane the next day. I am not going to worry about what happens. I am not going to stress over whether the payroll gets done, or whether the phones work, or whether the computers crash during the check run. Someone else gets to do that for 2 weeks. I don't know who will do it but at this point, I am comfortable with letting it go.

thanks again for the support. you guys are great.

Missy

Missy - more :grouphug: . Glad you're feeling better.

So if you get to the port around 9ish - what time do you actually board?

I don't think the kids will want to wait in line for over 2 hours.

thanks.

Karen, that totally stinks! My MIL has the opposite problem, she does not know how to shut anything. When she has been here you can tell because the garage door is wide open, the bread package is wide open in the cupboard, hot dog packages left wide open in the fridge. I asked my dh if they ever had any fresh food at all in their house or did they just eat everything stale??

:rotfl: Thanks for making me laugh this AM. Maybe your MIL can meet my MIL and they can learn something from each other.

I was just wondering how other schools grade. Our High School and Jr HS use this:

A+ = 98 - 100
A = 96 - 97
A- = 93 - 95

B+ = 90 - 92
B = 88 - 89
B- = 85 - 87

C+ = 82 - 84
C = 80 - 81
C- = 76 - 79

D+ = 74 - 75
D = 72 - 73
D- = 70-71

We always had the A = 93-100 etc, but I just don't get the +s and -s.

My kids are only in elementary so I can't comment about HS....but this is the break for elementary.

Missy - I would stop putting in any extra hours that you don't absolutely have to. You need to say to yourself each time that you are working for free.
You should give your boss a dollar value of the time you will lose and say your family is really looking forward to the bonus for holiday expenses.

In exceptional circumstances some of these personnel policies could be waived I'm sure. You are in a non-profit? They really can't have it both ways - people get paid for what they do. He basically is giving you nothing and expecting you to keep putting in the hours.

I would look at your schedule and the minute the other person returns put in for one or 2 days vacation to pack for the cruise. If they don't survive -they will find a way to pay you back some of the money. Or make sure you take that extra week next year - do whatever you have to.

Time lost from your family is never recovered - the job will go on though. He will get the message if you start to play hardball.

I hope it gets better soon.

Vanessa - I got my butt kicked in my first conference with the nursery school teacher. I walked around in a daze for about a week after that. I felt I was staying home to give the best to our kids and I had already failed at it. It was horrible.

I did learn that there are 2 things you can give kids - your love and the gift of Becoming. If you spoon feed life to them - choices, smoothing the way, keeping them from failing, falling etc. - they don't have the independence to handle life on their own. Failing builds self esteem. It's such a gift to be able to let them find their own way and it's the hardest thing for parents to do - to hold back and not help them.

I thought that I had stayed home so that I could give them the purple sippy cup when they wanted it or carrots cut up in a certain way etc. I still do some of this because I am their mother and not their teacher. But I try to let them fall down sometimes too so they know they can handle it.

I also have issues about my mother but if you carry it forward you are only passing that pain onto the next generation. Ulitmately, your success is about you and your love, not what happened before.

I agree with others that said the pre-school teachers are not the ones to diagnose a speech issue - they can point out a concern which you may decide to investigate. Go with your instincts as Lisa mentioned.

And as Angie, Amy etc. all said it's really about loving them and letting them know it every day - that's how they bloom.

Now help me survive Kindergarten ;)

that is funny, she is the one that stuck out to me too, so adorable.
Funny, when I posted the photo, I was going to add "Check out the cute Madeline" but I didn't. I guess everyone noticed her anyway!

Seriously? What does the dentist do with all that candy?

I'm sure he throws it out - what would any responsible dentist do?

He could melt the chocolate for sundaes.

You would all be proud of me today. My word...even to the principal...was

When she asked how late someone would be there for people to pick up their orders today (IOW how late would *I* be there) I said 2:30. When she questioned me about that I told her that I would not put my family thru that again and needed to recover from last night's problems.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

But you were there for 7 hours to have 30 boxes picked up? that seems crazy and not very considerate as you mentioned. that's more hours than the other 1400 orders.
