12/04/2010 Eastern MAGIC - CHIP 'N' DALE'S CRUISIN' NUTS

I wish I were there right now! I so could just lay on a lounge chair and relax.

About the photo I know RCL does that, so when you get on board they can match face to picture before letting you on. I don't think they would print it on your Key card. It basically happens they take your photo its tied to your account and to your key and when you get on they will swipe your card, your photo pops up on their computer screen and move on.

But I am thinking after each cruise the photos are deleted and cleared so it doesn't clog up their computer system.

Thanks! Makes sense to me! DCL is the only line I've ever cruised, but I think there are several lines that require that a photo be shot at check-in. With everyone trying to increase security wherever possible, it's just another step in that direction.

I'm sure this must be somewhere in the cruise forums, but since I have not noticed it there, here's a bit about a new procedure at DCL cruise check-in:

After check-in, everyone is required to go to a second line to get their photo taken and tied to their onboard ID card.

When we went on the Jan. 10 Western they said we were the first ones to have our pics taken. We didn't have a very long wait. The pictures were not printed for our cruise but they said that was the plan for the future. Basically it will turn your KTTW card into a photo ID. When they scanned our cards our pics showed up on the monitors to verify we were us. I was very glad my pic was not printed as it was a very scary one! I am sure by our awesome 2010 adventure they will have it down.

Thanks, tinkluvr12! I am sort of picturing mine ending up looking as bad as my Kennedy Space Center pass photo. Whoa! Well, guess I'll be taking a lot of care with my appearance that Saturday morning since I'll be stuck with that "image" for the week! ;)

Hey by the way. I have a question for you taswira.... I probably better give you a little background with it though so bear with me. My DH is a FF and works 48 hour shifts so on those nights my escape from reality has become the DIS. I was cruising the adorable Nuts website the other night and wishing 2010 would hurry when I noticed the Primate Projections info at the bottom and your 1st name. I thought with a Poohish hummm wonder what Primate Projections is so I googled it and was enjoying your pics very much-especially the Africa ones. (DH and DS spent 17 days in Kenya last spring on a photo safari but that is another post altogether) Anyway then I noticed the SD connection. This is where the question is- Did you ever give photo advice while at the park? I think we may have met in '84 or '85? You look so familiar to me. I used to live in So. Cal and practically lived at the zoo and the park. I even had an official uniform- the Joan Embery tan shorts and cream T:rolleyes: M/D's best friends lived in Escondido and my GPa/Ma lived in Pacific Beach so we basically spent the summer at one or the other. (My love of the SD Zoological society continues to this day- My children are probably the only Utah kids that are Koala club members :) ) Anyway, for a high school project in zoology I had to spend 6 months studying Siberian tiger behaviors at the park. I spent every Saturday morning sitting outside their enclosure taking field notes in 5 min intervals- yes, I was obsessed! One Sat. I was trying to get a pic of one of the cats and a very nice lady with a very big camera stopped and gave me some great photography advice. Could that have been you?? I know long winded question but it has been bugging me. If it was you- nice to meet you again:) ; if not then nice to meet you for the first time:) ; if you have no idea since it is a nice memory we can assume it was and then please see the first nice to meet you:upsidedow Have a great day either way!

LOL - It's quite possible. I have given such advice to many there, but am not sure if it was me or not. I was born and raised in San Diego, was not living there at the times you mentioned, but was there about 4 times per year for 2 weeks during those particular years. If you ever go back to the San Diego Wild Animal Park, take a look at the donor wall at the "Heart of Africa," my name and "Primate Projections" is on the wall. I'm hoping they never tear it down!

:firefight As for your DH being an FF - Although I moved on to UCSD and Scripps Institute of Oceanography (marine mammal behavior studies), I first got a Fire Science degree at Miramar College/SD Mesa College. But of course I was driving up to spend every weekend at Disneyland!

FYI - Thanks for checking out some of my wildlife photos. Did you click through from that site to visit africansafari.org? It's OT, but I think it's nice to get to know about people we're cruising with. I usually click on any site links fellow cruisers post of their own. :)

Hey everyone - Our thread has 3,366 views as I write this, so let's keep it visible so even more people will find it and hopefully join our cruise! :thumbsup2

:coffee: I am SO lazy today. I am still working on my morning coffee and, yes, still wearing pajamas! I got up at 7 (it's 11 here now), had breakfast, sat out on the patio staring at the lake (well, more like a long pond!) and the lifting fog, came back in and have been going through e-mails and forums ever since. Me bad! I'll kick into high gear and get productive soon. :upsidedow

I also need to think of more to put on our cruise website. Don't forget - I'm still seeking photos (or links to your photo) from our cruisers to make it easier to recognize each other in the terminal or on the ship. No one is under any obligation to participate in any of our planned meets or activities. They will be available for those who do. But it is nice to be able to say "Hey - I know you!" when running into each other on the cruise. :cool1:

Afternoon everyone....

Just a few minutes here then I have to get back to work....

Hope everyone is having a good day.....

Well we are snowed in. 12 inches on the ground, and the it is still falling from the sky. that makes about 24 inches on the grass etc. I need a cruise now!! :)

Dh and my son will be easy to spot, they both always have on Steeler tshirts! dh even has 2 Steeler ties.

Taswira- in my mind it was you:) so thanks- the pictures came out really good and I got an A on the project. :goodvibes We make it back to the park about once a year. I will look for your plaque next time- I noticed on your website you were a sponsor. There is a bench for my grandmother at the zoo. We love the SDZS! As for your pictures, since my DH and DS were at all of the parks you list in Kenya but 1 last May, we really enjoyed them. DS even thinks he stayed at two of the lodges you list- he knows he stopped at the Safari Club.

Magic3forme- you must have the storm that just left Utah. We had to dig out too. It actually got to 26° today and we were so happy!

Take care everyone & stay warm.;)

Hey found this on page 2.......I know we have a little time, but we need to stick to page one......:goodvibes :thumbsup2

just stopping by to say hello :wave2:

Magic3forme, Denise, and Judy - Thanks for helping to keep things going here! :)

Tinkluvr12 - I'm glad your photo project turned out well! If you look at the plaque at the Heart of Africa entrance, my listing is all on one line like: "Shari Meyr Primate Projections" or "Primate Projections Shari Meyr." I think it's in the $1,000 to $10,000 category listing, or maybe it was $5,000 to $10,000 - so long ago I don't recall. But the thing is that I had been a long-time SDZS President's Associates member, and the reason I donated to the HOA was because I thought I'd never get to real Africa. Immediately after I donated, I did my first East African safari with SDZS and then started leading photo safaris and conducting workshops in Kenya and Tanzania. So the HOA is particularly special to me. ;)

So did you not go to Kenya with your DH and DS? :confused3

I can't wait to meet you (again - LOL) on the cruise! :cool1:

No, I did not go. I would have loved to but we did not think DD- 8 at the time, was quite old enough for such an undertaking and I couldn't bear to leave her with anyone for 17 days. So I sent my son and hubby with my Uncle, his SO and their wonderful guide.

It's funny because Rick used to say the same thing about the park... how much he enjoyed spending time there since he didn't think he would ever "really" get to go to Africa. You just never know.

I have to brag for just a minute. We are off tonight to an awards ceremony for my son. He entered a 5 minute summary of the 7+ hours of video he took on their safari. He doesn't know it yet but tonight he will get told his entry is going on to the state judging. From there he could go on to the national competition. I know all of this isn't quite cruise chat but aren't we supposed to get to know each other too???

Have a great evening all :thumbsup2

Keep us posted on how he does as things progress. Congratulations to him! :cheer2:

We watch American Idol. I dont think Simon was mean enough this year. :rotfl2:

I like the Hollywood week singing..just not all the drama. I cant stand all the tears and whining.... give me a break. (can you tell how much empathy I have?) :lmao:

We watch American Idol too. Often we shake our heads and wonder what kind of friends & family they have that would encourage some of those people to try out.:confused3

Last year my DH and I had different favorites picked out after Hollywood week. What made it fun for us was my favorite was David Cook & his was David Archuletta. . .so we watched to the end, each sure we had the right pick.

Where is ThePhantomsGirl? :confused3 She seems to be MIA the last week or two. I hope she is all right.

Yeah Simon Seemed tame this year and I am still not in love with the new Judge at all. But I thought that Simon making sure that girl got her day job back was very nice of him.

I don't get why family's encourage some of them to try out but I guess without that we would not have very entertaining tv right?

I hope ThePhantomsGirl is ok too she has been very quiet.

Has anyone flown Airtran? My mom and I are planning on going to the MagicMeets in PA in August and we can get a direct flight on Airtran for $178 round trip right into Harrisburg where the meet is. We normally fly Southwest so we don't know any other airlines.

I have so much planning going on for like 4 trips my head is spinning!
