Just booked last minute 11 night Southern Caribbean on the Fantasy. Does anyone have any recommendations for a Beach on your own in Barbados? Thoughts on Virgin Gorda port adventure in Tortola?

Welcome! We are also sailing on this cruise. Not sure on a beach in Barbados. I'm sure someone else will have advice. I did the Virgin Gorda tour last year on another cruise and wouldn't do it again. The Baths were beautiful, but very crowded. It takes a long time to get there and I just didn't think it was worth it. Again, this is just my experience. If it's something you want to do, I say go for it!

We just went to Barbados on the Magic Apr 30th cruise. We did a tour to the wildlife preserve. It was really cool.

If there is a tour with this and a beach break, I would do that.

I'm on this cruise too. I should be wearing DIS stuff occasionally on board. Feel free to say hi or come join us at our meet on the 1st sea day. There is more info on that in the thread that was linked above.

This will be my first time at these ports, so i don't know anything about a beach. I think we are doing the cave excursion on that day.

We walked to Brandons beach. It was a nice safe 15 minute walk. At the terminal they handed out free maps and gave directions. We had a great time swimming and best part was that it was free ;)

We did the Harrison Cave in Barbados on our cruise last month, enjoyed it so much.

We also did The Virgin Gorda, it was great. It does get crowded, but what a beautiful place to see. I'm glad we went to see it, we have some beautiful pictures.

I've heard of a beach in Barbados that is a short cab ride away: Carlisle Bay Beach
We may go there on this 11-nighter. You might want to Google it.

Based on the responses trying to compare Carlisle vs. Brandon Beach or book through Disney. Just wonder if it is worth it to book through Disney or better to just catch a cab.

I believe (based on what I have read) that Carlisle is VERY close to the port. Just not close enough to walk. Not sure if they are regular cabs or open air type of vans, where they fill it up before leaving.

Anybody know how many formal nights are on this cruise?

There is one formal night (first Sunday - sea day), a semi-formal night (last Monday - sea day), and Pirate Night the Martinique day. The rest of the nights are cruise casual.

Thanks for the info!

ETA: Seems kinda weird about Pirate Night being semi-formal. But, we are going to Palo that night so it will be formal for us anyway.

Thanks, looked up Carlisle Beach and leaning towards going here.

I think DougWDW was saying that formal night is the second night of the cruise (a sea day), and semi-formal night is the last Monday (also a sea day). And that Pirate night is on the day we port in Martinique. Not that Pirate night is also a semi-formal night.
