I will be taking my 11 year old grandson this summer (June or July) and was trying to think of some cooling things to do in the middle of the afternoon during a break from the parks. I was thinking of doing the water sprites but he has to be 12 to drive on his own and I don't think it will be as much fun with me the boat. So besides pool time what might be a cooling thing to do? Basically I am looking for something that won't require a mask during the activity to better cope with the heat. Any ideas? The without mask is not a deal breaker so open for any suggestions what to do with an 11 year boy

Sounds like you’ve ruled it out anyway, but just FYI, the sea racer boats (or ‘water sprites’) have not returned since reopening. There are some rumors/indications they may never return, but of course things can always change.

Some options for an off afternoon off the top of my head:

- Mini golf at one or both courses
- Ft Wilderness archery experience

It’s not in the afternoon, but we really enjoy the guided fishing excursions on Bay Lake/Seven Seas Lagoon and Crescent Lake. We’ve had great family time doing those and it’s a unique experience. Masks are required, but if you do the 7am excursion it’s before the heat of the day really takes over (and the fish usually are biting early in the day).

Based on current Covid procedures, the only no mask activity you’ll find on property is the pool.

Pool time, water parks, mini golf are all fun. My DS11 loves to go to the the coke store in DS and get the sampler tray of drinks from around the world.

There are arcades at some of the resorts.

I would just stick with the pool or go to a water park. I can't emphasize enough how hot it will be and anything other than being in water will not be very cooling. My BFF and I took our 11-year olds in July 2019 and, after a morning in the parks, they were ready to just go to the resort pool. We would then head out again to do another activities once the sun went down.

Honestly, after going to the parks I really think the 11 yr old boy would just love to play in the pool daily. Bring some goggles and some coins to dive for and he will be happy.

You could also plan to book some sit down lunches to give you a break. It remains to be seen what park hours will be like over the summer, hopefully they are better than now. But if hours are as limited as they are now, a lunch break at the park might be better than leaving to go back to the resort in the middle of the day since that eats up so much time.

My 11 year-old is going to be 13 next week. Like what has been said- pool. But if there is any alternative that he would want to do- Go back to the room with a couple of cokes and some hot Takis and let him play on his device for 2 hours while you take a nap. Gets you out of the heat, replaces some electrolytes, and it is exactly what he will want to do.
