Pretty sure we'll get the DDP for our soon to be planned June trip :goodvibes .
One DS is 11 years old. He is at that age where sometimes he wants to eat like an adult and sometimes he wants to eat like a kid.
Three questions:
Are TS kids meals restricted to 10 and younger?
And
If he wants to eat like a kid whether that is a kid meal or a simple dish, can we pay OOP for his meal, use the DP (normally as planed) for the rest of our party; therefore saving his adult credit for later use?
And
I assume there would not be a problem using his adult credit for a kids meal if we wanted to do that (even though the ticket say all adults)

For the last two I can't really see why Disney would care, but I'm sure if there is a reason someone will enlighten me. ;)

TIA for any advice

I don't think TS kids meals are restricted to those 10 and under so if he wants a kids meal he can get it. Of course, the kids meal's portion will be smaller. I believe Disney will provide him a larger portion of food than normally received in a kids meal if he uses a TS credit. Of course, you can always pay OOP and save the TS credit for later.

Unless it is a buffet or all-you-can-eat fixed menu meal, most likely you would be permitted to order a child's meal for your 11 year old, but you'd pay with the adult dining credit. There are mixed reports on whether a larger portion of the child's meal would be served - that is probably up to the restaurant. It's always possible to pay for the child's meal with cash and save the TS credit. Any adult in your party could use the TS credit.

At buffets and AYCE you couldn't order the meal for an 11 year old at the child's price. They'd always pay an adult credit on the DDP.

Thanks this is what I was trying to find out.
I wouldn't expect a larger portion (unless using the adult credit, then maybe). Sometimes DS just wants a few chicken nuggets and that's it, which is a waste of an adult TS, IMO.
I expect this to be the case with so much food on DDP.

Of course, any buffets he would use his adult TS credit.

thanks for your help! :goodvibes

I'm right there with you--our oldest DS will have just turned 11 when we go in Dec. I'm planning on paying OOP if he wants to order a kids meal at a TS (non buffet) and saving the credit for one of us to use later :)

I'll try to remember to report back on this - I have a 12 year old that will want some adult TS meals and some child's TS meals. I'd just as soon use his credits as pay OOP. It can't hurt to ask at the non-buffet places, right?

My daughter will have just turned 11 when we go. I had the same question about the DP. Thanks for the info.

At both Brown Derby and Yachtsmen, we paid out of pocket for my 11 year old to eat a kids meal. We honestly explained the situation, at neither place could she eat an adult meal and I hated to waste two ts credits on her. I mean at Yachtsmen, she wanted to order a $6 plate of mac and cheese. They said no problem, they do it all the time. Doing that gave us one more meal at Olivia's using that total of four credits we hadn't wasted at the other two places.

I have found the servers all very accomodating at making the plan work for our kid aged adults. We have gotten double portions on kids meals paid for with adult ts credits many times (and often we have declined that offer since when you add the dessert my dd doesn't need a double portion) and also substituted sides and desserts that are more kid friendly.

For my kids who are 12 and 13, the buffets are the easiest in some ways. They tend to eat more because they can see and sample and then go bac for more and they always serve fruit and desserts both of which my kids love. I don't have to worry about portion size, wasted food, asking the waiter about subbing or pay oop. I know they are technically not a good deal, but they make my life easier!

That's been my experience, the most recent being June of this year.
