Such a sad story. An 11 year old girl was playing miniature golf and her ball went into a pond. She reached in and yelped, another man went to help her and also was injured. She died. :guilty:

Ten o'clock news says she might have been electrocuted. :sad2:

Oh, I just can't imagine how her family can deal having something like this happening at all, especially on a "happy" vacation. Many, many prayers to the family.

An 11-year-old girl died on Wednesday after trying to find her lost golf ball at a putt-putt course at the Orange Lake Resort, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies went to the Kissimmee resort on West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway about 2 p.m.

Deputies said Ashton Jojo, who was in town on vacation with her family from New York, was playing in the putt-putt area inside the resort when her golf ball fell into a small pond.

When Jojo, trying to retrieve her ball, screamed out in distress, another resort guest came to the rescue.

Deputies said Christopher Burges, who was also in the golf area, tried to save Jojo but was hurt in the process and was unsuccessful. Jojo was taken to Celebration Hospital, where she died, deputies said.

The cause of death is still under investigation.

Hotel guests told WESH 2 News that hotel employees told them the girl had been electrocuted. A sheriff's spokesman said that's one possible cause that they're investigating

I was just coming to see if anyone was discussing this yet. I went to high school with the man who rescued her. His cousin posted on FB yesterday right after it happened and they believe both of them got electrocuted. He was just going to be observed overnight, but he was bleeding in one of his frontal lobes of his brain, so they transferred him to a trauma ER and is having another CT this morning. This is just an awful story, I cannot imagine the pain her family is going through, and I know how badly Dan's (he goes by his middle name) family is doing. :(

This is so sad and so close to home for us. My DD goes to school with her older brother. They've already made announcements on our school website and are offering counseling for the students. I can't imagine having your family vacation turn into such a horrible tragedy like this. I feel so sorry for the family.

How horrible!!! My heart goes out to this girl's family and to the man who rescued her. I can't tell you the number of times we have reached into the various water features to try and retrieve our wayward golf balls when we play putt putt golf. Definitely won't be doing that again.

What a horrendous thing to have happen. My condolenscences and prayers to the involved families and friends. I hope they can figure out what happened so it can be avoided in the future.

I read this in the paper the other day and thought how horrible. I know they mentioned her brother was with her but had checked out ok. They never mentioned anything about the brave rescuer (at least the version I read didn't) How tragic for his family as well. My thoughts go out to her family and my prayers and well wishes to his for a speedy recovery. I know the paper did state they believe the resort is to blame as they suspect code violations may have been found in the electrical pump system.

This whole thing is so sad. Thoughts and prayers go out to both families. What a heroic effort. Sure something must have gone wrong for the pond to be electrified like that?

God, that's awful. Really horrible. You wouldn't think of what she was doing as taking any sort of risk - unlike, say, somebody unhooking their safety strap on a coaster.

Hopefully steps will be taken to make sure this never happens again.

Somebody really oughta do time over this one. The poor kid was electrocuted, because of a bad electrical wire somewhere in the system, and the fact that normal breakers were installed in the breaker box rather than GFI breakers that would have detected the problem and tripped.

My Sister and Brother-In-Law got suckered into a time-share presentation at this place a couple of months ago (actually, they consider torturing time share salesmen a form or entertainment so they really enjoyed it) and my Sister was not surprised to hear this news. She said the place looks very nice at first glance, but that you don’t have to look to deep to see that it’s pretty much falling apart.
