11/27/04 the sequel.....

Just wanted to touch base....Is anyone thinking of meeting on Friday??? I would love to meet some others prior to the cruise! I know it would help the kids feel more comfortable in the clubs if they see a familiar face.

Right now we are booked at the Radisson for a 1br king suite @ 140/night and grandma and grandpa have a standard room next to us. We had planned to take Tiffany Towncar to the Radisson and the shuttle to the port. My only concern is that we arrive around noon in Orlando, and it might be nice to be able to have a car.

I spoke with Chuck at DU and he suggested renting a minivan at the airport and driving to the port. One person could drop everyone else off at the port in the morning while the driver returns car at AVIS and gets a ride back. Does that sound too difficult and stressful???? I have no idea how far apart things are and that is a bit of a worry. However, it would be nice to have a car. Especially if we realize some last minute items we forgot!!

If we have a car, I think we will rent a 2br at Ron Jon. With the discount code, it will be less or the same as two rooms at Radisson.

Any thoughts?????

Since we live close to the port, we've never used the Raddison, or any other hotel in the area. I have seen local advertising/articles on the Ron Jon facility, and it looks pretty extensive. Location wise, it is closer to the ocean than the Radisson, and a little farther from the DCL terminal. Ron Jon's is near the east end of the ship channel and slightly south. The Radisson is south of the DCL terminal area. Not sure where they moved the Avis office when it left the Radisson, but I think it is just a little farther east on SR528/A1A.
Regardless of all this information, none of these locations are more than a 5-10 minute drive to the terminal. So renting a car at MCO on Saturday, and driving to the port area would be my choice. That would give you more dining options on Saturday, and time to see the local area. You will also have the option of picking the time you take everyone to the port, and not have to wait on the Radisson shuttle. One warning - don't get to the port too early! Last year on this same cruise date, we arrived at 10am. Gates didn't open until 10:30, and we were sent to the parking lot accross the street to wait and ended up getting in no sooner than those who arrived right at 10:30

That's exactly what we are doing. We're renting from Budget at MCO and returning it near the port with the same drop off plan that you are. DH will then take the shuttle back to the port after he drops off the car. We'll be waiting in line for him and if he misses check-in, others have said that all you have to do it go and show his photo ID at check-in and he'll be all set.

We just switched from the week of Thanksgiving to the week after(cruise starting 11/27/04) and we saved $1,600!! This will be our second cruise and I hope my daughters, ages 5 and 4 will enjoy the club so my husband and I can relax a bit. We are still unsure of where to spend a few days after the cruise - probably the Polynesian but we can't make up our minds.

Welcome Dorisdan!! We will be spending 4 nights at WLV after the cruise and attending MVMCP on Sunday night or Tuesday night (depending on when its offered).

I think Poly would be nice with small kids because of access to the monorail.

Good luck with your planning!! Oh, how did you kids like the first cruise??? I'm also hoping that ours will spend a little bit of time in the clubs....

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I will suggest to the DH that we rent the car and stay at Ron Jon.

What is the best way to get back to WDW after the cruise??? I'm thinking Happy Limo or Tiffany????

Have a great day everyone!

We rented a car last year and it worked out great. It was not difficult at all. We got a lot of help from this board and knew exactly what to do.

DH dropped us off, returned the car to Avis, took the shuttle back, and when he returned we had already checked in and were waiting in line to board. He just needed to show his picture ID (driver's license) to get his KTTW card. Note: I had all the cruise documents and his passport for check-in.

We rented a car after the cruise too, but we only had one day at WDW so it was only a 24-hour rental.

Izzinmac - we were probably sitting next to you in the parking lot. I agree that 10:30 is a much better time. That's what we'll do this year.

Whoa!!
We fell all the way to the middle of page two.

Anyone here paying any attention to the discussion of possible California Magic Cruises in the summer of 2005 for DL 50th anniversary? Still a fascinating rumor. I think it would be great to be able to be on the positioning or depositioning cruise thru the Panama Canal, if they happen. Probably expensive.

Just making conversation to get this back on page one!

I'm not really following the Summer 2005 stuff, but I'm mildly curious what they're going to do. I don't see myself crusing Disney during the summer, and definitely don't plan to fly across the country to take a cruise to Mexico (most cruises out of CA go to Mexico). The respositioning cruise would be fun, but I don't want to be in Disneyland during the summer either, and wouldn't go all the way out there without a stay at DL.

I'll be cruising partway through the Panama Canal next week (starting 3/13), and I'm looking forward to it!

I've been keeping up with it. SOunds like lots of fun. I would absolutely LOVe to be on the repositioning cruise *BACK* to Port Canaveral.

That's where I'd want to be--on the cruise back, but I'll be this is going to be a $$$$$ cruise. Probably won't be fitting into our budget. :(

Hi,
We went on the after Thanskgiving cruise last year and loved it so much we are going again. Actually my homeschooling son tries to write every report assigned to him about the Disney Magic. (he's addicted ). We've got a ds (13) and dd (10)
Holly

DD is an avid pin trader.

Welcome aboard holldoll! Added you to the list. Do you want to list your room #?

Hi holldoll! I'm glad you joined us! :teeth:

Too funny about your son. I was also homeschooled and I took my first trip to WDW when I was 13 and when school started back up that year one of my assignments was to write about the most wonderful place I visited on my summer vacation. My choice was Main Street U.S.A. but I made sure it was known that this wasn't just the best place I visited over the summer, it was the best place on earth! LOL
