this is a really good idea. my hairdresser gives her daughter 3 gifts under the tree. one for each of the wise men! and she's 8.
she says she gets so much for ALL the aunts, uncles and grandparents that she does not need anything else. so she explained to her the reason for the season and how the wise men came bearing gifts. so there you go.

That sounds really awesome. I need to incorporate that one.

We fix a Jesus birthday cake on Christmas Eve. I have a special birthday cake ornament we put on the the tree in a reserved space after we sing Happy Birthday. The Christmas story is read before that. he birthday cake is something Virg always did as a child so we wanted to do it with DS and the rest feel into place.

Sorry. I became OT.

When we were little we each got $5 to spend on each person in the family- it was all mom and dad could afford. If we wanted to get something bigger then we would go in together for that person. Our grandparents and parents got us enough gifts to have lots to open under the tree. Becuase I was the oldest when i got out on my own I could afford about $20 a person so that is all that each of us spend on family members. Many times we make the gifts. My sister knit me a beautiful sweater a couple of years ago- I just wore it this past Sunday. My Sister in Law also knits. When we have less money we generally have more handmade gifts under the tree. My sister made my DH promegranate jelly for Christmas last year. She never got my gift finished - she gave me some candies she made instead but I still don't know what she was planning on making me- maybe I will get it this year. DH and I are tight this year- our budget has been cut to 25% of what we had last year for everything so we are being a little tighter than normal and i am trying to make things with my scrap supplies on hand.

The jelly sounds wonderful. That is the kind of gift I would enjoy the most. Food. Homemade food is just the best.

i love the handmade gifts also. they tend to come from the heart!
:thumbsup2

How about a Vera wallet???

i did the matching wallet for her bday as well.
they are having a huge vera sale on friday at my local shop of all kinds of retired stuff. maybe i'll go there and peek around for something good.
the only problem with that is it's also the pandora shop. and i'd hate to leave w/out a bead!!!!!:rotfl2:

ok that's my plan!

:confused3 i don't know Dave, Ashley said to leave with some Vera stuff for me and a bead??!!:confused3
I just did what she told me to do??

and dave's reply.....:faint:

And then there is DH's Grandpa... love him to death, but he is essentially blind, which makes it hard.

Does he like books? When my grandmother (an avid reader) could no longer see, we started buying her books on tape. If it was a book we thought she would like and they didn't put it on tape, we would record it for her to listen to. She spent hours during her last years in her rocking chair listening to those tapes. She really enjoyed them.

As for my shopping I have nearly 30 people on my list and I am thrilled to announce that I only have 4 people left, 2 I just have to buy the stuff and 2 (my mom and my Aunt) I have no clue what to get. I have wrapped about 1/2 of the stuff and I am still waiting on a few items that I ordered to come in. All in all, not too bad.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:I am a terrible influence while shopping with friends and family! I am sooooo good at spending other people's money, which is perhaps why I majored in retail in college!

I haven't started yet, but my list is tiny - pretty much just the kids. Nothing with the extended family and DH and I and Dad and I typically don't exchange gifts. There will be a couple small things under the tree - usually DVDs for the men and I buy my own presents (because if I left it up to the men you don't want to know what kind of junk I'd end up with!) which are usually scrap related. Oh, so technically I did start my shopping - I bought myself 2 Cricut cartridges on Custom Crops this morning to put under the tree!

I'm just waiting on the girls to give me their lists - they started last weekend so this weekend they should be done. I do 75% of shopping for them online, so that's a bonus. And then I pick up gift cards for my coworkers.

Holl- how did today go?? What did you get??? :yay:

i have not gone yet. i don't think the sale starts until friday. and everybody in town will be there. -which i hate by the way- i'll let you know what i end up with!

Oh, duh, you said that before. My brain is fried.
