Shari,
where is Spruce Creek Fly??? I also live about an hour from WDW, but I have never heard of your town. We live in Fruitland Park, it is nestled between Lady Lakes and Leesburg.

Kathy

Thanks for the welcome! Kathy - Spruce Creek Fly-In is in Port Orange FL. It used to be considered part of Daytona Beach until they changed the zip code.

I want to make it clear that I am NOT one of the wealthy ones here, but Spruce Creek Fly-In is a gated flying & golf community with its own airport and lots of "hangar homes." Many people drive their planes into hangars attached to their homes the same way most of us drive our cars into our garages - LOL. Lots of NASCAR drivers live here because it is convenient for them to fly in and out. John Travolta used to live here until the community ran him out because his jet was too big and noisy. :rotfl2:

I will PM Shell my info. Looking forward to meeting everyone. :)

Then I made some carrot cake which really smells good!! Needs to sit a day for the flavors to develope correctly. I made it in a loaf pan, instead of a cake a pan, just slice and eat. Greg and Peter like a little reddi whip on it, no icing. It is actually a healthy dessert, no cholesterol, trace of fat, I make it with a sugar substitute,so no sugar. Everyone loves it, I just never told them it was a healthy choice for a dessert or they probably wouldnt even try it.:rotfl2:

Kathy

Got any tasty and healthy recipes that don't use peanut or milk products? I'm running out of ideas to feed Huber, and he refused to eat the spinach and broccoli tonight... So Fiona followed his bad example! :headache: He brings new meaning to "picky eater." My cholesterol count can't take his steak and potatoes diet.

I'm the type of person that likes green healthy things... and dark chocolate UNhealthy things! :rotfl2: I exchange out apple sauce for oil in baked goods, and he sneaks Bac-o's on everything! :) Getting him to try 2 tablespoons of something is a major accomplishment! But he'll try anything seasoned with cajun spices, and I can't handle black pepper--it's too spicy for me! I'm such a wuss!!

Thanks in advance!
Brandie

Holly,
when you do tell him, have him make a count down chain to hang up. It will take some time to make and write all the numbers on each ring of the chain, and to put it together.
Then each day he can remove one link and that will tell him how many days are left. If he asks, just point to the chain.

I know people that made them 18 months out and wrapped the chain all around the room and slowly watched it get smaller and smaller.

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

We did a construction paper chain last year. I did it at 120 days and it was a bit long for our tiny house. :rotfl: But when it got down to just a few days before the cruise, Tyler kept saying, "Mom, remember when our chain went all the way around the living room?" He loved it! In fact, he asked me if we can do another chain for our next cruise (which he doesn't know about yet, he's just assuming). It's crazy that a 4 year old is so used to going on cruises that he doesn't have to wonder "if", he only wonders "when" we'll go again. I was thinking of telling him about this one on his birthday in May, but he just told me if we go on another cruise he wants to be surprised. So I think I'll tell him when we land in Orlando. Actually, he'll figure it out when he sees the DCL bus, so maybe I won't tell him and will just wait until he realizes where we're headed. ;)

Taswira,
I do know where Port Orange is!! :thumbsup2 Thanks for answering my question. Guess I should of asked your first name too. If you gave it already I must of missed it, so what do we call you:confused3

Mutt, see I didnt know where Taswira lived. I dont know everything, just most things.:lmao:
Brandie,
for recipes do you use soy milk in replacement of milk in recipes?? Or is it absolutely NO milk at all?? I do have many healthy recipes, low fat, low cholesterol, low sodium etc... I always use sugar substitutes or sugar free hone too. Egg beaters in almost all my baking too. Due to health problems a few years ago I have had to learn to cook as healthy as possible. I would be happy to share recipes with you.
I know peanuts are in lots of things I dont know about so if you could let me know a few common things they are in I will not send you recipes with those things in it.

Holly I am glad you tried the chain idea, it really is fun for the kids to do. But if it's a complete surprize that wont work.
we surprised our grandkids last August with a 7 day cruise. They came to visit with their mom for a month and their dad could only come for 9 days, so we planned the cruise for the days he was here. They knew nothing about it. Their mom packed their good clothes and pirate outfits in her suitcases the last morning when they were busy eating.
When the day came to go, we just told them we were going to cocoa beach for a few days. That way they didnt worry about the luggage. When we got by the port we said lets go see if we can take some pictures of the ship.I had the cam corder turned on in the back seat, they didnt know I was recording their reactions.
As you pull in they ask to see ID and they asked my DH if we were all going on the magic and he said yes. My grandaughter whispered to her mom, MOM grandpa is going to get in trouble, he lied to that man!! She was 15 and still didnt get it. Then we stopped by the terminal to unload the luggage we all got out and the grandkids sat there in the truck starring at us, then Ana said what are you doing?? I look at her and said, well I dont know about you, but I'm going on a cruise, are you coming or not??
They still didnt believe it, they were stunned. Then as we waited for Greg to park, Ana freaked out, I dont have any good clothes to wear, I only packed cut offs and tank tops for the beach. marie explained she had all their clothes.

Then when we got inside Greg told them it was a 4 day cruise to Nassau, they got all excited, but soon figured out we were actually going on a 7 day.
Then a couple days later at dinner they were being very polite about having to go to the butterfly farm with grandpa and grandma(they are 13 and 15, butterflies are not cool)(hanging with us is not cool)
Then we told them they were really going on a sailing regatta excursion. It was so funny,we lied to them over and over again,so they swore they would never believe us again!! In a good way. What made it even funnier is all the dis board friends knew it wa s asurprise so people kept asking them of they were surprised!! They thought the entire world knew they were going accept them.

So if you can trick your son, go for it. It was so much fun to surprise then about so many things.

Enjoy your friday everyone,

Kathy

I guess you just missed it, because I did give it in my first post on this thread. ;) My name is Shari but I do also answer to Taswira (pronounced Taz-wih-ra). It is KiSwahili for images/photographer/photography.

Is anyone here a member of the Pal Mickey club or does anyone here own a Pal Mickey? If so you may enjoy viewing the Pal Mickey Gathering at Sea pics from last week's cruise HERE. There were a dozen or so Pals aboard, but we never all got together for a group pic with more than four. The shots in the Vista Spa and private villa are hilarious. :lmao:

Yes, now I do remember it was Shari!! Some days my brain just goes in reverse!! Sorry about that.

No pal mickey here, sorry.I have seen people using them all over the parks, they are pretty neat.

Kathy

After the cruise last week and some brainstorming, there is a strong possibility they will eventually come out with a "Captain Pal Mickey" for DCL that would work on the ship and give inside info on special tours, etc. He could have a Captain Mickey costume, a reversible Animator's vest, etc. So many passengers were asking where they could buy him, expecting to walk right into the shops onboard and make the purchase. I think DCL now recognizes the "Disney dollars" potential in a shipboard Pal and costumes. However, it would probably have to be after a dry dock in order to install emitters for him, plus they would need to develop a new Pal because his programming can't be changed.

But for anyone who owns one, TAKE HIM on the cruise! I will again! He can still talk, tell jokes, play games and sing (if you have the current version). Unfortunately, Pirate Night was the one time we could not get him to sing the pirate song.

Well, soy milk works reasonably well for all baked goods except biscuits. It is usually sweet, and doesn't have the fat content of cow juice (as my daughter calls it), so baked goods don't rise as much. So cheese, real butter, whey, cream, strange ingredients with "lact" in them--all those are out for my husband.

Peanuts are usually boldly listed on ingredients now (I say usually because I came across a Campbell's soup the other day that hid peanut oil in the ingredients--Mexican Tortilla or Fajita). You have to go out of your way to cook with peanuts, because the choices are peanuts, peanut butter, or peanut oil. Huber loves pecans, so if those can be substituted, that would work.

Thank you for the help!!!
Brandie

Good morning Banana Heads

I just e-mailed out the latest version of the Cruisemate List. If you're reading about it here and not seeing it in your e-mail inbox, then that's because I don't have your e-mail address! Please PM to me!

Shari:Not a member but viewed your pictures-GREAT :woohoo: I want to be on the ship NOW!!:rotfl2: sick of the cold weather-darn that Paxatwany Phil and his 6 weeks left of winter...:sad2:

Brandie, i will go through some of my recipes and PM you with them over the next few days and see what you think of them. Several do have skim milk, but you could probably use soy milk in it's place. you can judge when you get them.
I am going to be busy this weekend, so you may not get any until next week, but I will send you some,
Kathy

No rush. I've got at least another 60 years of seeing the hubby at the dinner table. :rotfl2:

Thanks!
Brandie

Just had to comment - I LOVE the name Tazwira! Unique yet euphonious to the ear and pronounceable as well.

Oh, you guys are gonna have fun cookin up a storm now! Kathy, I think you should start yourself a subscription recipe website for healthy eats. Or write an e- cookbook and market it as downloadable from your website with internet advertising and payment through paypal. Or ebay copies of it.

Shell, Thank you so much for the time you are spending on the cruise list! Got mine and enjoy putting faces and names together! Dawn
