11-23-2008 DCL per-Thanksgiving 3 night Wonder cruise!!

My April's Fool is that I am home sick. And my son doesn't have school today.

I got my Passporter Cruise book. I am really enjoying it.

The updates on the first page are great.

Thanks! And hope you feel better today!!:goodvibes

Hi, all!
Disney Fans, the list looks great. DH is Alan if you want to add that.
I stopped getting update emails when someone posts and I went on vacation, where I got sick after the first day. Still a good vacation, though.
So, Spaddy, sick on April Fool's, you're just a week behind me! And today I might just be able to run again.

Well do, I will add Alan.;)
Thanks!:goodvibes

Hi All----

Very new to these message boards! :confused3

Anyway...my wife, daughter (2) and I are joing another couple w/ a 2 y.o. on this cruise and we are really excited! Both sets of parents have little girls that we adopted from China and both girls share the same birthday, which is extremely exciting!

We've cruised before but never on DCL.......we all live in the Tampa area so we'll simply be driving over to Port Canaveral the morning of the cruise and parking the car.

Hope to see all of you onboard!

-Michael

:welcome:

We are happy to meet you and will add you to our growing list on the 1st page!!:dance3:

Feeling better today, but my son has pink eye. Wow, what a week.

It's not too bad. It could definitely be worse.

That is so great that you are going to do the Everest Challenge. I hate running and I think it sounds like fun. I have become a bit chicken about flying across the country. I think it is having a 3 year old that has changed my mind. It is getting easier. This trip to California will be a test because we are leaving at 5PM Eastern time and not getting to California until 9PM. I don't know how he is going to react to that. I don't know how I am going to react to that.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Michael, you have any cruise questions?

Spaddy,

Pink Eye, what can you do.:sad2: But at least it sound like you all are almost all ok now.:woohoo:

We are all ok here and having a pretty good week. Weather here has been up and down but thats TX for you.:rotfl:

8 more months to go!!!!! I keep thinking how cute the photos we can all get to make for holiday cards!! They are going to be so so cute!!!!!

Have a good day!!:goodvibes

Everyone is feeling better today. It's finally warming up here.

Disneyfans, have you ever had the pillowcases signed on the cruise? I am planning some sewing.

Howdy,

Glad everyone is feeling better.:goodvibes

We always plan to have the pillowcases signed but forget.:rotfl: When we get there. This time I plan to have a little note list of things not to forget to do.;)
They will have just about anything signed that you would like. T-shirts, pillow cases ( we just buy some plain white ones), photo mate frames, etc. It is best to take them to them the 1st day because they get alot of request for signing and then you can pick them up I think it is last full day of the trip.
If you like to scrapbook then, keep everything you get to use. Even the luggage tags you get for leaving the ship are cute.:)

Hi everyone. We are also going on this cruise. There are too many posts to go back and read through all of them, so I apologize if I ask a question thats already been answered. We've never done a 3 nighter before. We've done the Western and the 11 night Mediterranean. I'm excited to try a different ship - although I understand they are almost exactly the same. Since its a short trip, I was able to convince my mother and her hubbie + my grandmother and niece and nephew to join us. We'll have 3 staterooms side by side which should be lots of fun. Plus, since the prices are RELATIVELY cheap, we have a verandah, which we've never had before. So, I'm really excited! :cool1:

I saw on one of the other posts that one of you is a DVC member and is trying to get a res at the Beach Club beforehand. We have DVC too, and LOVE LOVE LOVE the Beach Club!!! The pool is absolutely fabulous!
We've gotten to the point that we'd really rather be at the pool than in the parks. If you call exactly 7 months out right at 9:00 am, you should be able to get the room you want. We're trying to get a 2 bedroom at AKV for the Wed and Thurs nights after the cruise, and I plan to do the same thing (Saratoga is our home resort).

Question - what is the Everest challenge??? Is it a running event? I am a runner but have never heard of it.

Happy to have found this thread! Unfortunately, November feels like a LONG time from now.

:welcome: Jodie!!

Here is a little clip writting about the Everest Challenge:

THE COURSE: MYSTERIOUS Race through the dark, exotic terrain of Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park on a thrilling 5K trek in the shadows of the Forbidden Mountain.

THE OBSTACLES: INTENSE The adrenaline is pumping and the anticipation builds as teams (trekkers) prepare for their expedition. Surprises along the way may pose as obstacles on the team's trek.

THE SEARCH: LEGENDARY There are plenty of clues to lead them on their journey, but only a few will escape the Yeti, known as the abominable snowman! The team needs to earn all of the stamps in their Expedition Passport to conquer the challenge!

THE REWARD: FUN Then the real excitement begins as the teams celebrate their finish at an exclusive after-hours party at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park.

If you have what it takes to conquer this challenge, then find a teammate and join the trek! The challenge and the party will be twice as much fun! If no one will brave the Yeti with you, then sign up for the solo trek!

DATE
September 27, 2008 Expedition Everest™ Challenge

Hope this helps.:)

We think the price for this Cruise for this holiday week is outstanding!!!! Also we wonder if there is a computer mix up at DCL because I have never seen a holiday cruise during Thanksgiving time ever this cheap.:)

Thanks for the Everest info. That sounds like a blast!!

I think that Dis doesn't consider this a holiday cruise because you disembark BEFORE Thanksgiving. If you look at the 4 day cruise prices for the Thanksgiving day cruise, they are sky high.

We ended up booking the 2009 Eastern for Thanksgiving week 2009 on the first day that bookings were allowed. The price wasn't cheap ($5K for cat 9 - 4 people), but not nearly as high as summer time and Christmas. The price jumped A LOT going from cat 9 to 6. I also noticed that prices jumped $600 about 2 months later - a good reason to book these things as soon as they're available!!

It is not on Thanksgiving but it is considered a holiday cruise because it falls on the week of Thanksgiving. ( Just as if you were going to WDW or somewhere but just not staying the day of the holiday, you don't usually get a brake on cost that close to the holiday):goodvibes The same with the 3 Wonder cruise just before Christmas, Easter or Spring break. We have been trying to do a Thanksgiving week cruise the past couple of years and I can tell you that the same cruise for this year is way off on price compared to the past years with the same cruise just before Thanksgiving day.:) There are many families like ours who at school have the whole week of Thanksgiving off.:) And there are some schools that just have off that Wed, Thur, and Friday.
This is a great price and and even a DCL rep told me they think there is a mistake in the price.:) The price has went up just a few hunderd from when we 1st booked so it is still to me a great price for the week of Thanksgiving.:woohoo: And wait and see the price will be about $1000, or more differnce once the ship gets near the full quote.

Also Jodie it is so hard not to go on more Disney cruises once you go on them.LOL :lmao:
Don't you think.;)

Check out the equivalent 3 nighter for 2009 (Sun before Thanksgiving). Its cheaper than 2008!

Yep, thats 2009 and I think it is at the cheapest right now because it is so far off.:) Even the 7 night Eastern and 4 night Thanksgiving are all cheaper for sure.:)

Pillow,

Does your schools get off the whole week of Thanksgiving or Wed, Thur and Friday?
Here in TX it just depends on the school area and not by state or county.
It is kind of odd here because we do get a Spring break in March but we don't get an Easter brake.:(

My kids get off 2 hours early Wed and then are off Thurs and Fri. I'm just taking them out of school for the whole week.

Our Spring break always coincides with Easter, so this year, it was early - in March. Its always the week after Easter.

I wish we went year round because then we'd have breaks at odd times. We could vacation when others are in school and go cheaper. Oh well!

Missed a lot today. We had a birthday party.

I am going to try to get the Beach Club for the Saturday before. I hope because it is the weekend we will be able to get it at 7 months. You should definitely get on the waitlist if you don't get AKV at 7 months. It seems like the new building is coming along fast. Of course I realized the other day that I was not calculating 7 months correctly. For some reason I think it was the end of May and not the end of April.

You have 2 kids? That is so great you talked some of your family into coming along. I don't think I am brave enough to invite my family.

My mom is a lot of fun, and she has always wanted to do a Dis cruise, but her husband wasn't so keen on it. Since its only 3 nights, I talked him into it. My niece and nephew have never done anything like this so I can't wait to see their reactions. Neither has my 85 year old grandmother. They're all gonna love it!

Are you staying anywhere the Wed and Thurs after the cruise. Except for Hilton Head, I have ALWAYS been able to call 7 months out and get the room I wanted. Good luck!

Oh, and I love the Everest thing! My mom has agreed to keep the kids, so I think we're going. I need to call DVC tomorrow and see if I can get a res using points. The flight is only $229 direct pp!! :yay:

You should be able to get something for the end of September I would think. See, you come to the boards and now you have another trip planned.

I am travelling to southern florida to stay with my in laws after the cruise. We never get to see them at Thanksgiving so this was a good way to get both things in one trip.
