11/22/08 Thanksgiving 2008 cruise thread. Double Dipping Travelling Turkeys!

Thank goodness for the weekend. I am in my happy place, that's here in case you were wondering.
So last Sunday I was officially paid off, but for some reason was then told no you owe us more money. UM hello I couldn't figure out how they came to that conclusion as I came to the conclusion they owed me just over $200. So I was making calls and sending emails most of my day Monday, trying to find out what happened. See I had paid enough for me and one of my DD's and I have said my oldest isn't going to make it. I still had her listed until I knew for sure no one would be filling in her space. So on Sat. my ex step mom Mary, she is my other traveling guess in our cabin paid off her portion. So come Sunday I decide to go ahead and cancel my DD's spot. I had paid $200+ more not knowing the break down when I made my last payment. No biggy extra money for OBC, right? Wrong. When I canceled my DD's res. they them put Mary into the second slot which changed her cost. I figured that might happen but it was only to be a small amount like maybe 5-100. But no there was still an amount showing we owed almost $500. I couldn't figure that out at all. So when calling DCL they said they moved Mary's spot and that then put her in a higher rate, I couldn't understand at all how they could change someones quote they have paid off up that much. They had a hard time trying to figure it out too. For some reason it was changing it to last weekends rate if booking. Now if I knew that was going to happen I would have just had Mary cancel her res. and then do a name change that would have just cost us about $80. After a complete break down with them and almost loosing my temper I finally got someone to fix this problem. With my phone calls and DU emails it's all taken care of and I even got the $200+ back, not as an OBC as I wanted it to be but on the credit card so that is fine too.
So now I am ready and waiting to book some excursions. But if my DH is laid off much longer I may not be able to keep them. UGH!
I am home today after getting all the shopping done for my oldest DD's baby shower. We are doing it next Sat. My goodness babies need so much stuff. It's so much fun though.

Does any one know what the menu is for Thanksgiving evening dinner? I'm assuming they have turkey but there are other options, right?
Also, when is lobster night?

I think it is a good idea to put a deadline on the sign up for the Fish Extender Gift exchange so that we have a firm number. I was thinking August 22nd. That way there is three months to buy and/or make gifts. Right now we have enough families that each family only has to do gifts on one day. After the 22nd, we can sign up for the day we want to deliver or I'll assign the days. If people want to do more than one day that is fine too but if each family has an assigned day everyone will get a least two gifts per day.

Venison for Thanksgiving dinner. I'm kind of surprised - I never would have thought.....
Never cleaned or went to Best Buy. DS Ian and I went to lunch and then grocery shopped. I did get some laundry done though.

I have us at 103 days today. Anyone else have this? My count down calendar is SO messed up. If we are at 90 days on the 24th, wouldn't that make us 103 days? Then that would have us leaving in 101 days. ALMOST DOUBLE DIGITS.

Mackenzie has an appointment on Thursday with a pediatric urologist from the University of Virginia. Hopefully we can come up with something to keep her from having any more kidney stones.

HEY MOMS--I need more help. Both of the girls have birthdays in the next monnth. Mackenzie really wants a pool party at our wellness center.($150) plus food, cake, gifts, etc. Kenna could care less at this point since she'll only be 3.

I personally was thinking of driving 2 hours to Rainforest Cafe, Disney store and maybe the Baltimore aquarium. I told her that she could get the flaming volcano, and get to get stuff at the DS for the cruise. Any other ideas to help me get her persuaded?

I was thinking of just doing a Mickey Mouse of some sort for Brandon. I saw a cool Mickey slam dunking a basketball on a site that was recommended on your thread for names. However, anything you already have will do--mickey or pirate mickey or anything like that. He is very in to basketball or baseball, but I'm not sure if you have anything like that. I'm determined to get that font on my computer! I'm going to mess with it some more tonight to see what I can get it to do!

Thanks. If you have photoshop you can probably do a much better job than I can with my cheapo print shop.

Had to buy really stiff iron on interfacing yesterday for my FE. I'm going to try it tonight - hope it works. I may be in over my head but I'm making a mermaid! It won't have individual pockets but I may have the shiniest FE on the ship!

Lora - According to the DIS countdown calendar 11/22 is 102 days away!!! For those of flying in on Friday, we are 101 days away. Tomorrow is our 100 day mark - I feel like buying a Dairy Queen ice cream cake to celebate! (Any excuse to buy an ice cream cake!) But I won't because I am committed to this diet!
I hope Mackenzie's appointment goes well and you can get some answers.
I got to babysit our almost 9 month old grandson yesterday. He's such a happy, pleasant kid and a joy to be around. He never cries and just goes with the flow. He's the polar opposite of his mother - she was a terror from day one and is still complaining!

Amen to the DQ cake. I'll eat it for you, when I was pregnant with DS, I'd go to the bakery and the lady would always ask what the baby was hungry for. The baby thinks DQ cake sounds pretty darn good.

Lora--Good luck on the birthday party. When my kids were her age I think we did every other year on parties with mulitple friends. I'd try to hold out for the big party next year too, then you could have a big bash for both kids. Would she be more persuaded if she could take a friend shopping and to the Rainforest Cafe?

Judy--I can't wait to see your BLING BLING FE. I have a feeling your room won't be hard to find.

I came home and figured it out. We have a print program but not photoshop. I'll have to investigate this further when I get a chance.

Lora - I agree with Stacie. Throw the offer to take a friend at her and see if she bites. I would think that would be great fun and a very attractive offer.

My FE came in the mail today (I did tell you all that I have absolutely no talent, right? ), and it is so cool! We've been working on our FE gifts. My DH has been busy ! He says he's not doing it all, but he is the talented one of the two of us! So, I'm giving him the credit here, just in case I forget to do it when we're on the ship.

I ordered mine from a DISer on Ebay. My DH thinks I paid too much for it, but I think it was worth every penny! It's adorable, and each pocket has a mickey head that is personalized with each of our names. The girls actually have a minnie head (with a bow). I'm very excited about the FE thing now!

Ken and Susan - You both have my creative interests flowing now. The Brandon sign is great! I will be going to Best Buy soon and researching photoshop.. Perhaps tonight after my chiropractor appointment. (I'd cancel but I get a 15 minute back massage every Tuesday and Thursday. I love them and my week is crap if I don't get them! And the insurance pays!)
I'm starting to think I should buy a FE as well. I don't know how this mermaid is going to turn out. It could go either way.

Our FE's are in progress. I got fabric at Walmart that is dark brown with Turkeys all over it. I then picked a pale yellow for the pockets. Walmart had these cute fabric squares that were 8x8 inches that I've cut down. Two of them have Minnie kissing Mickey, and The other two are Snow White and the dwarfs and Cinderella and the Godmother. I'm putting Mickey and Minnie and Snow White on one and the other M&M and Cinderella on the other. These are going on the pockets. The top pocket of each FE will have "The Cook Family" "Traveling Turkeys" Thanksgiving 2008" embroidered on them. I got antenna toppers from ebay that have Mickey heads made into turkeys and Mickey as a pilgrim. These are going on the ends of the dowel rods.

Can't wait to see everyone elses.

No, I don't think I'll be doing the FE. I get kind of crazy when it comes to getting ready for a cruise and the added stress of FE's would probably put me over the edge.
