Did I tell y'all that I got a fab deal on airline tickets? Well I did...From the WC $90 one way, $99 coming home! Wasn't thrilled with flying SW, but I can suck it up for no baggage fees and cheap fare! I keep watching to see if it comes down again, because as it stands, we have saved $380 off our original booking. It seems to be coming together. Anyone get a deal on car rental from PC to MCO? That one seems a bit high to me...booked it anyway!

Heads up per Mousesavers: Ticket prices are rumored to go up August 1 for WDW. We just bought our girls tickets just in case. We have adult tickets already...

Good for you! Glad to hear that you were able to get good airfare.

I got a minivan from Thrifty, PC to MCO, for $46. Adding on taxes, fees, and drop off charge, I think the whole thing comes to about $80. I'm hoping to do better on this as we get closer to November.

I bought our WDW park tickets last year in July to avoid the 8/08 price increase, so we are 2 years ahead. :cool1:

Does Thrifty have a shuttle from the port? I may check into that...

Thank you for flying SWA!! :)

We got a deal on an economy car ($65) through budget using Mom's AARP discount, but it was just a dollar or two more than the discount offered with my Rapid Rewards membership, so you might try that!

We got an economy car through Budget from PC to MCO for $65.05 (including taxes etc.) using the AARP code. There are advantages to being "mature".:rotfl2: Next weekend DSis and I apply for our passports (Michelle already has hers having just returned from her week in Rome!). We've finally decided on and booked our excursions. It's getting real now!:cheer2::cheer2:

Keep in mind that it's 12:01 Eastern time, so make sure to adjust for your time zone. Also, August 16th is Day 90, not Day 105. So, as a Castaway Cay member, you're booking window opens at Day 90. However, if you are in a Cat 1-3 or have booked an REAS package, then you get to book at Day 105, which is August 6th.

Actually, Day 105 is August 1st (at least that's what http://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadd.html tells me). Since we booked the REAS, that's what I'm going with, which means 16 days until I can make my bookings :woohoo:

Now if only I could find a halfway decent seat sale...

Does anyone know why Thrifty charges a drop off rate? Budget doesn't...I found the minivan deal but the drop off rate was more than the rental. I am just curious. Budget didn't have a drop off fee associated with the one-way rental.

Yea!
I am done with traveling for the summer and my days have really slowed down. We booked our airfare with SW because the deal was SO good! $422 with taxes for 3 of us round trip! This was the first time we had to pay for a seat for Jonathan. He turns 2 in September and besides he is getting just to darn big for a "Lap Child"!

I am shopping for rental cars now and getting into our trip planning.

I noticed today that their are lots of cruise discounts being offered for this fall. I keep watching for our sail date. For the right deal, I wouldnt mind moving up to a room with a view!

I have sooooo much reading to do to catch up on all I've missed......Off to the beginning I go....

I don't know why Thrify does that, but when I booked our minivan, the Thrifty cost was less than Budget, even with the $15 drop off fee.

If your Military call your travel agent and ask about rebooking your room at the special rate. We just saved $620 on our cat 10 room 2 adults 1 child!

WOO HOO Spa here I come!

Cynthia

The drop off fee last night was $45, yet the rental was only $41. I will keep trying...

Holy cow, you're right! When I made my reservation on 6/17, the drop off fee was $15. I just checked their website and it is $45 now! :scared1:

Good grief, airfare rates are great right now, but car rental costs are ridiculous.

However, I think it's still cheaper than a DCL transfer or town car service, isn't it?

Maybe you have heard about that place across the bay from the terminal. Pad 39A? This evenings shuttle launch got me wondering (oh my, here we go again :rolleyes1) about the likelihood of seeing one ourselves. So I checked. STS-129 is currently scheduled to lift off Nov 12, just after 4pm. It doesn't look like this one is contingent on the Aug 18 launch of STS-128 (different ships), and the payload of one has nothing to do with the other. Of course these missions get postponed, delayed, well, you know the deal. Best case scenario would be a slight delay, say 2 days. We'd watch the launch right after the safety drill and our departure out to sea would not be hindered. I'd say that's one heck of a way to start a weeklong celebration!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Boy! My dh would LOVE that -he's a space fan from way back. One of our other cruises last year, we had a couple in our group who work for Nasa - TG the shuttle went off before the cruise, so they were able to go!

:thumbsup2 Sandiegosusie - That's a great deal!! Wish we waited... but seeing the airfare creeps up made me too nervous!

We'll have to keep that hushed up from my DH. Our tickets are non-refundable but he'd do it anyway if it means getting close up to a shuttle launch!
