11/05/05 Western - Who's with Us?

Suzanne: It's like this:

mi-SHLIN-bee

Ha! But of course, YOU may call me Michelle as all my non-transylvanian friends do. (HaHaHa!)

Actually, if I was to guess, my guess as to Disney's decision is I give a slight edge to a modified Western stopping at Costa Maya. Unless Key West or GC are very messed up which I don't THINK they are.

I can't WAIT for the drink of the days!!! Did you read the drink thread BTW? So funny!

Best,
Michelle

I am not sure of our itinerary b4 the cruise. DD, DS & DH want to go to Universal but we are booked in Radisson also.

I am taking this directly from our Navigator the day we stopped at Costa Maya on Thursday, Sept 2, 2004, due to Hurricane Frances (we were on the 10-night cruise, so Costa Maya was actually an extra port for us on that trip):

Costa Maya Shore Excursions:

Costa Maya Beach Snorkel 7:45am
Costa Maya Boat Snorkel 7:45am
Outdoor Bike and Kayak 7:45am
Chacchoben Mayan Ruins 8:00am
All Terrain Expedition 8:00am
Jungle Beach Break 9:00am
Costa Maya Boat Snorkel 11:45am
Outdoor Bike and Kayak 11:45am

I am sorry that I don't have the page they gave us that listed the descriptions and the prices. But the above excursions were what was available to us to book, if we so chose to do so.

I see that we departed that port at 5:30pm on that day, in case anyone was wondering about this.

What is the reason everyone thinks we may go to Costa Maya? Did I miss something?????????

That is EXACTLY how I felt and what I am going to do there. What makes it good is the bus ride is only 45 minutes, compared to a few hours if going from Cozumel. My 5 year old wouldnt make a 2 hour ride, but 45 minutes is doable. So I will be VERY excited to do this as that is really what I want to do in Mexico, period.

Just speculating at this point. It seems pretty clear we are not going to Cozumel - LOT of damage. That leaves 2 likely possibilities:

Modified Western with Costa Maya (which supposedly was not damaged)

or

Eastern Carribean

Sign us up for the drinks of the day!!

3swimmers, thanks for calling Disney. I'm glad they are planning to make a decision soon.

I'm hoping for the modified Western, too. I'm torn between the bike/kayak and the Mayan ruins excursions if we go to Costa Maya.

11 days to go!!

:rotfl: Do you think the Disney people check out this board and laugh at all our speculations and plans? Oh well, now I can read up on Costa Maya as well as the eastern caribbean! :3dglasses Claire

From what they were saying this morning about Key West does not sound good. 60% of the building suffered flood damage and lots of destruction to poorly built homes and mobile homes.

At this point I think we are going east. They could also do GC, Nassau and CC with an extra day at sea.

Just checked my reservation on the DCL Website and it looks like we're heading to Key West, Grand Cayman and Costa Maya. :confused3 Last year I was excited about getting to Costa Maya instead of Grand Cayman ... looks like I'll get there this year :rotfl2: And I was kind of lamenting having to go back to Grand Cayman after last year ... until a friend reminded me of the Rum Cake Sampling that we'll be doing. I feel better about Grand Cayman now :rotfl:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

As of 5:00 p.m. EST - Tuesday, October 25, 2005

Thank you for your interest in the ports of call featured on our western Caribbean itinerary.

As you may be aware, Hurricane Wilma passed directly over the island of Cozumel. While the island of Cozumel is involved in its recovery, we will be unable to call on this port. Therefore, we have changed our itinerary for our November 5, 2005, and November 19, 2005, western Caribbean cruises as follows:

November 5, 2005 Sailing
Saturday Port Canaveral, Florida
Sunday Key West, Florida
Monday Day at Sea
Tuesday Grand Cayman, The Cayman Islands
Wednesday Costa Maya, Mexico
Thursday Day at Sea
Friday Disney’s Castaway Cay, Bahamas
Saturday Port Canaveral, Florida

off the disney cruise line website..

anyone know anything about costa maya?

That`s great news about the itinery. The reason we booked the western was to visit Key West :cool1:
There was a thread on the cruise board last night with a link to a website about Costa Maya - the Mayan trip looked really good, I think we may try and book that.
We travel next tuesday and have four days at WDW before our cruise - better get a move on!

Are they different names for the same place? This is what I get for having marginal attendance in Mexican History and Geography classes.

I am just glad they decided! Now I can plan again. :teeth:

I logged into the Disney Cruise website to look at our updated cruise plan. No excursions are listed yet, but it has been updated to say Costa Maya for Wednesday. Everything else is the same. I think I'll check every so often to see if they post any excursions... it would be nice to book the Costa Maya excursion in advance.

We will have to see about getting our $$ back from the Dolphin Discovery people since we booked that excursion directly through them. They do say they will refund if the cruise ship does not come as scheduled, so we should be ok. Hope that's not to much of a hassle.

11 days till :drinking1 of the day!!

Did anyone else notice that we are scheduled to go to Key West but the Western cruise leaving on the 19th is going to Castaway Cay twice? Do you think there is a reason for that or could it be a typo?

We did end up in Grand Cayman ... and I honestly felt it was too early in the island's recovery for tourists to return. Many restaurants and stores were still closed and trying to rebuild. Stores that were open had limited inventory. Restaurants that were open were charging outrageously high prices for things. Prices were much higher in November 2004 than I remember them being in May of 2003 :confused3

I've got to say that I'm a teeny bit disappointed we won't get to visit St. Martin or St. Thomas ... I've heard that you can get really good deals on jewelry there ... and since DH and I will be celebrating our 12th Wedding Anniversary on board ... :rotfl2: Guess there won't be any jewelry in my near future :confused3

The 19th is Thanksgiving Week and due to some sort of Regatta (or something) Key West is unavailable for that cruise. The Thanksgiving week cruise always hits Castaway Cay twice.
