So, DS is turning 10 next year. What's all the hoopla about being 10? Is it mainly the dining plan? I don't see much difference in ticket prices.

Not sure what hoopla you're talking about. But ticket prices changed recently. There used to be a lower theme park ticket prices for kids (9 & below) than adults. But in early June, they raised the ticket prices and changed it so that kids is the same as adult.

It must be the dining plan, then. I am always reading threads about kids turning 10 and people wanting to stretch the truth about their ages.

Prior to June there was a price difference.

Tickets are a bit more when they turn 10. As far as dining they will be the adult price for buffets, dinner shows, and places that serve family style and have set pricing.

For 2013

Off Peak-Adults (10 and up) $55.59 Kids (9 and under) $17.16

Peak Season- Adults $56.94 Kids- $18.16

Thats what the hoopla is about.

Wow! That's an extra $300 for our 8 day off season trip. I don't know that he eats $55 worth of food a day. Maybe in ice cream and rice krispy treats. Too bad they don't have an "all-snack" option. He'd live off of that!

This was on annual passes, not MYW tickets. MYW tickets still have child pricing for ages 3-9.

10 is the "magic" age where guests of that age pay the higher prices for MYW tickets and dining.

Yep, it's tickets and dining. When you are 10, you hit that magical "expensive" age.

If you don't do the dining plan though, and eat table service but not buffets/ayce meals, you can still get him a kids meal at kids meal prices.

This is why we quit doing the dining plan 2 years ago. There is no way I'm paying close to $300 a day for our family. My 10 year old prefers PB&J and mac n cheese every meal, so not a good deal.

im so late ... I cant believe that kids and adult tickets are almost the same price....and boy or boy when did the dining plan get soooo hefty...bc I also remeber the 9.99 kids and 29.99 adult pricing

Yep, we did it for the first time right after they discontinued the appetizer,we weren't blown away by our savings since at that time our kids (Disney adults) ate like birds. DH complained bout feeling compelled to overeat. We've done it twice since, both times because of the holiday pricing for buffets. I booked FD for our upcoming trip because it was the only PIN I had and I'm afraid they might not release a room only discount for our date since its the day after we check in is blacked out for FD. I'd much rather have a 30-40% room only off our close to $500 a night CR room!
