10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

Ian and Charlotte,

Congratulations and how wonderful that you'll be celebrating your marriage on the ship!

Thanks for evreyone's well wishes! This will be the second marriage for both Charlotte and I, so we wanted to do something small but special that's we we chose to get married at Disney.

We have a made a trip to Disney each of the 8 years we have been together so it seemed the logical place for me to propose last year. After deciding on marrying at Disney, a cruise seemed the logical choice for our Honeymoon. It just so happens we will know someone working on the Magic in the shows so that's an added bonus.

The more we read these boards the more excited we are getting and the more i think we will be hooked on cruising.

We excited to share our Honeymoon with you all!!:)

Kim, if you call your school, you may be able to get a copy of the supply list. Have you looked on your school's web site? Our lists are on our web site. Congrats on getting your paper finished.

Denise, welcome back. Thanks for posting the tips. I think Kari is correct in that parking is now $15.00. I just read this the other day when we were deciding whether to park at the port, or stay at the Raddison. I appreciate the tip amount. I will need to let DH know this for planning purposes.

I guess we are lucky, in that the state gives us $500 a year for our classroom expenses. I understand the frustration everyone goes through on the expenses of supplies. When you have to purchase copy paper and laminating film, it eats into the amount you have. The money the state gives us still does not cover everything that I spend during the year, especially in the summer, when I am preparing to return to school. When I returned to the classroom 2 years ago, I spent over $1000 before I even set one foot into my new classroom. One thing I do before school is hit up sales at places like Staples and Office Depot. When you can get folders and glue for a penny, you take advantage of it. I especially go and stock up on paper. When it is $.15 a pack, you can't beat that. I also tell my parents at orientation to go ahead and buy extra now for later in the year. You will pay much less now and just have to put it in a closet until January. I understand your frustration with buying 4 packages of crayons. I do think that is a little much. Our PTO sells supply kits. It really makes it easy on the parents and the teachers will receive the correct supplies the student needs. With gas the price it is now, it saves money in the long run. Parents also save time purchasing these. Out of 25 students, I have 17 that ordered kits.

Well, I am going to go. The boys had friends spend the night last night. I just finished cleaning up my kitchen. Pancakes and boys always are a hit. I've got to get ready and drop them off. The boys have haircuts later this morning.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Hello everyone! We are back from our trip to Boston for DH's neice. Nice weekend. Everyone seems to be doing well with their planning, I think we only have Key West to deal with and I think we will order our trolley tickets online with the discount and call it good. David would not be able to walk to the southern most point and we need another picture for sure.

I can't believe all of the back to school talk - where did the summer go?? MI would have a hard time running a calendar like that as we have no air conditioning in our buildings - and I presume you all do. I wish everyone a great year - teachers and students.

Well, I need to unpack and get some laundry done. I will see if I can get a picture of the wedding posted in the next few days. Take care - it is almost hump day!

Wow! Supply kits! That's a great idea for the PTO to do for parents. I'll mention it to ours. As a parent, I hate the supply lists too. As a teacher, I hate running out of Kleenex and GermX in January and having to buy it because of all the runny noses. I do every year though. At my school we get $200 from administration, two boxes of paper, a certain number of copies, and a $100 gift card from the governor. We do request a $25 contribution from parents, $5 of which goes toward the agenda. Of course, not all parents can give that.

I went to the school and began moving my classroom yesterday. That is always such a daunting task! I am excited about my new job though. That always makes going back to school a little easier. I'm sure I'll have those back to school butterflies more than usual this year though!

Another thing about starting the year is that it makes the cruise come so quickly! I'm trying to enjoy the planning as much as possible. This cruise has been booked since October 2006. I don't know what I'll do when it's over! I know the answer. Say it with me everyone! I'll book another!!! :lmao:

I'll try to add some useful tips to Denise's list:

You may consider bringing a night light, clock with illuminated dial, and extension cord (I use the cord to blow dry my hair with my own hair dryer).

Take your camera with you at ALL times! DH Dave teased me about running back to the stateroom before breakfast on our first Magic cruise. Five minutes later, we met up with Captain Henry on deck 9. Of course, Dave wanted a pic of him and the Captain.

Pace yourself -- there are so many activities on board.

The Cove Cafe also has snacks in the morning which are complementary.

Palo brunch and dinner are my favorites so I highly recommend trying to get a ressie. Getting on Palo's wait list usually turns into a reservation.

As the ship is leaving port, check out the CMs at port who are waving to us! What fun. Also, there are lots of people checking out the Magic along the waterway and waving as we are heading out to sea.

Get up early one morning and stroll around the ship. Great photo ops.

Check out the "secret deck" on 7 aft.

For those who want to try a different beverage ... BBC's are my recommendation. That's my own personal sailaway drink.

Do not miss the CMs entertainment on Friday night at approx. 10pm. The locale may differ from cruise to cruise, so check your Navigator that day. The entertainment is over by 10:30 pm.

Most of all - enjoy all the Magic on the Magic.

I know I'll think of other stuff and will edit this post.

I've updated the listing on post #1369, page #92. Please take a moment to insure that your info is correct.

Also, we have 82 people total and 27 cabins.

For those participating in the FE exchange: Are there any food allergies?

GREAT QUESTION!!!!!
I would also like to know as well. Please post if you or your child has any food allergy we need to be aware of!

Chris and I have no allergies!

No food allergies for us, either. Once you meet Dave, you'll soon become aware that he is a foodacholic! He can talk about meals he had 40 years ago!

Jacquelyn - you are an early bird this morning!

Have a great Thursday everyone. This weekend my 4 Musketeers are spending the weekend with us. What fun we'll have. Hope their parents pick them up on Sunday...........

Jan

No food allergies here although David is a diabetic.

Jan - have a great weekend with your grandchildren! Sounds like a blast.

I updated post 4 with Denise's and Jan's tips along with the instructions to ship a box to the port.

64 Days and counting

I am allergic to nuts, but kids have no allergies.

Have a great day, I am off to work,
Kim

I am allergic to nuts

How serious is the allergy? Just no nuts, or do we need to be aware of something that was processed in a plant that also processes nuts?

I do have an allergy to black walnuts only... they cause migraines. Any other nut, including english walnuts, are fine. Wynn is allergic to mushrooms, but I doubt that will be an issue!

Denise... could you possibly add the food allergies in red to the FE post?

Jan... have fun with the grandkids this weekend!

I am off to do some serious cleaning to my house. I currently have 2 openings in my daycare. I have someone coming to meet me and see the house at 12, so I have to clean countertops (huge job... think cleaning closets!), mop, and clean the bathroom.

wow, Jacqueline, you were up early! Do you have to go to work that early?

As far as allergies, I am allergic to low-calorie, healthy food, so Please make sure that I am only given fattening, sugar-laden, fat-filled foods so that my poor body doesn't go into shock ;)

Seriously, no allergies in my family (although my stepdad in room 6514 is diabetic).

This is officially my last day of summer. Tomorrow, it's back to work. I'm celebrating my final day by getting my hair cut and highlighted and taking my boys to football practice. Woo hoo!

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

Lori P. :)
