Hi everyone, I'm supposed to be mowing the lawn but I decided to try and catch up here a little first :rolleyes1

I have a question for those of you that have done a cruise on the Wonder? Is there anything you would highly recommend doing at Nassau? I had a dentist appointment this morning and the receptionist is going on a Wonder cruise in Aug. with extended family for her parent's 50th anniversary. She knew we have cruised with Disney and was asking for tips but I couldn't help her with what to do at Nassau because we've never been there. I need to take Rach in next week for her dentist appt. so I told her I could ask my cruising friends if they have any recommendations and let her know next week.

Hello everyone! My DH has been having so much fun on the DISBoards that I just had to join for myself! DH is Matthew- or Epcot_VA. So, that would make me the DW- Beth! Our 2 daughters will be celebrating their birthday on the cruise. Sarah will be 10 by then (where does the time go?!) and Megan will be 12. She'll just miss the teens! Oh well, that will come with the next cruise, I suppose. It's actually her "fault" that we are becoming cruise addicts: she made a wish on the Magic last summer that we would take a Disney cruise every year! :wizard:

Well, I am looking forward to the planning for the next 17 months! The girls are excited. Megan was complaining that it is "over 500 days" until the cruise!

Hiya Beth....welcome aboard.

Wow! I just thought I'd see if there was a thread for our cruise yet. I didn't expect it to be longer than the thread for the cruise I just got off! I'll never catch up. :faint:

We are fresh off the Wonder as of yesterday. We rebooked onboard for 10/24/2009. My DD 8 & DD 10 will celebrate their 10th and 12th birthdays respectively on the cruise. Same birthday, two years apart. We time things really well. :bitelip:

Our cast of characters includes the following:

DH 41 ::MickeyMo , DW 41 ::MinnieMo , DD 8 princess: DD 10 princess:

Welcome Matthew, Beth, Megan and Sarah :welcome: I'm Cheryl and I'll be cruising with my DH Al and our DD Rachel and her friend Courtney. Both girls will be 15 when we cruise. This is a great group, just join in here whenever you have the chance!

If Megan and Sarah are interested in DISing and getting to know some of the other kids there is a kids thread for this cruise too http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1654978

I still need to watch the video, but here is a still pic that I took while I was up there. My video camera can take stills while taping.

Ya know ... we're looking at a DL / Vegas trip for Jay's 40th birthday in May 2010.

I realize that this is two years from now, but vacation planning such as this keeps the left side of my brain happy while I'm at work ... :rotfl2:

Kids will be almost 16 by then...:rolleyes1

Chris, you can probably see the big trees without driving out to Santa Cruz. There are probably tours out of San Fran. Becky should be able to clarify this.:thumbsup2

We did this last summer, It's a 6 hour drive from LA to the Grand Canyon. Then we went from the Grand canyon to Yosemite. That was a very long day almost 12 hours. But it is so worth it. If you are staying in San francisco you can see the red woods in Muir woods witch is not that far from San Fran. That is one of my favorite cities, you will love it. Bring a jacket can be chilly in the summer. The coast north of SF is more spectacular than Malibu. Mendicino is beautiful.

If you end up stopping in Monterey, the Embassy Suites Hotel is directly across the road from the beach. They have happy hour every night and free fully cooked breakfast, and an indoor pool.

Chris,

In looking at the responses, what about a drive directly to Flagstaff once you land? It is 483 miles on mapquest (7 hours if you drive the speed limit, but no one does). Do the canyon the next day. Then drive to LV via the Hoover Dam the next day. Spend 2 nights there.

Then head from LV to SF, 1 day of driving.

I agree, just go to Muir Woods to see the Redwoods. Just to the north of the city. Should be able to get it done in 1/2 a day.

Do the Monterey drive on your way down to LA - might want to look into a stop at San Luis Obispo if you are doing the coastal drive.

Was it the 6th or 8th that you get to LA? I can never remember.

If it is the 6th, you could do the following, and still get to DL by the 14th:

8/6: Land in LA, drive to Flagstaff
8/7: Grand Canyon
8/8: Drive to LV via Hover Dam
8/9: Las Vegas
8/10: Drive to SF
8/11: Muir Woods, SF City
8/12: More of SF if needed
8/13: Drive to San Luis Obispo via Monterey
8/14: Drive to Anaheim

You might be able to get enough of LV in the one night you're there though and could move the drive to SF up to the 9th if that is the case. More time in SF or other parts of the coast. Also, you could use the extra day for Six Flags on the 13th, otherwise, you'll be going on the 14th.

Your plan is DL on the 15th and just staying around the hotel on the 16th, correct?

Jeff are you going to hit me with your bill for all this help?....:rolleyes1

Six Flags is a MUST - the coasters are fab:hyper:

We did the helicopter thing - well worth it :thumbsup2

Yep - we did the drive between L.A. and San Fran - its an ALL DAY drive.

Why dont you take an internal flight? We flew from L.A to Vegas - its real quick and would give you so much time back.

Car all booked and just thought we'd have had enough of planes by then anyways....:)

Chris - a little morbid maybe, but if you wanted to visit Walt Disney's grave I have a map of the cemetry. We did it years ago. Its quite easy to find with the map. I have photos, but they are digital and we threw our scanner away when we moved:rolleyes1

Are you doing Alcatraz? Its brilliant - make sure you book tickets online though - there's always a big queue at the booth.

Ive done Alcatraz, loved it, i just stood there thinking had my life gone in a different direction.....:rolleyes1

Thanks for all the advice.... Anyone seen the thread "Does the DISS take away the Magic?"......Their joking right?....:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Anyone else want to play who hasnt told either me, Jen or Cass?

We're still thinking about it. Have you guys decided on a "theme". Are you limiting the number of palyers? Rach said she and Courtney really want to play tag but I am concerned about room in the suitcase, especially now that Midwest, the airline we usually fly, is jumping on the band wagon and charging for a second checked bag.

The beaches are great. They could look into a day rate (one-night) at the Atlantis - should be a sale that time of year (I've seen low rates).

We did the Queen's Staircase, Fort and Water Tower, but that is nothing to write home about.

Most people stay onboard when they go to Nassau and enjoy the ship.

Midwest Airline flyers this was in the email I got from them this morning:

"Due to the rising cost of fuel, we are implementing a $20 service fee to check a second bag. The fee applies to tickets purchased on or after May 24, 2008 for travel June 16 and beyond."

I figured it was just a matter of time :( At least they won't charge us for an extra bag for the flights we already have booked with them.

Karen great pictures from your trip :thumbsup2 Thanks for posting them!

Cheryl fear not dear if Miss Rosie and Miss Rachel get their way you'll have your very own English castle pictures taken by Rachel in the not too distant future......Me thinks you should be planting that old money tree now dear.....:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Meter is still running Chris. :rotfl: Haven't secured a suitable hotel for the 14th-17th yet. ;)

Yeah, but you will have more than enough of the car by the time you get back to LA.

No Comments needed on this one. I'm sure we're all thinking the same thing. :rotfl2:

Is there really a thread out there like that? Heck, if anything, it allows you to be aware of things so you can fully take the magic in. Although I try not to research in depth the places I go. I did that once for Puerto Vallarta and was kinda let down. Now I look over a few highlights and plan from there.

Luckily, we purchased before May 24, 2008 for the repo. We won't have more than 1 each going out, but will most likely have 4 or 5 total coming back.

Check out AirTran. They are only $10 more if you check the bag online ($20 if you do it at the airport).

Yes Chris I recently heard about these plans too, I was wondering if you knew that Rach was planning on visiting you. She told me she is going to get a job and use her own money for that trip, not sure how much money she thinks she can earn bagging groceries a few hours a week :rolleyes1

Chris,

I just talked to our friend who lives in Vegas. She is flying here on Friday to watch DS for the next two weeks before summer camp starts.

Anyhow, she will pick up one of those "going on" magazines (no, not the ones the foreigners slap twice on there hand and stick out in front of you  - those who have walked the strip at night know what I mean by that :rotfl2: ) when she is at the airport.

I will mail it with the other stuff I am sending you next week. :thumbsup2
