Disney World has not been the happiest place on Earth for employees this year.

Imagine one day receiving recognition for decades of service from your employer only to be laid off the next day. That is what happened to one Walt Disney Parks and Resorts employee who asked not be identified.
Disney has eliminated 1,900 U.S.-based positions since mid-February. Some 900 salaried employees working at Disney's theme parks in Florida were laid off, and 700 open positions were eliminated, said communications Vice President Mike Griffin. In California, 200 workers were laid off and 100 open positions were cut.
Disneyland in California and Disney World are having their behind-the-scenes operations combined in a restructuring, said Griffin. Disney officials say theme parks, the Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club and off-property resorts have seen some people with decades of experience laid off during the restructuring.
The former employee let go after decades of service is still hoping to return once the economy improves. Several other employees said they did not want speak to CNN in fear of jeopardizing the generous severance packages offered by Disney. Employees let go will receive pay for 60 days; extended medical coverage; and severance packages that vary according to their years of service, said a Disney source. Disney's Griffin said: "These decisions were not made lightly, but are essential to maintaining our leadership in family tourism and reflect today's economic realities

Good Morning everybody

Ouch is right. I just heard a story of a woman who saved her bosses life when he had a heart attack at work. After he returned to work, he thanked her and layed her off...indefinitely! :headache: HR said that "although we appreciate what she did and was commended for it, unfortunately a lay off was necessary". It was a larger company and you'd think they would find "something" for this woman to do there rather than fire her!! :confused3

Hey guys! Wow, slow thread!! Everyone has a life I guess :rolleyes1

Just wanted to pop in and say hello! Hope everyone is ok :thumbsup2

I talked to Rob tonight and we decided that we really want to go on the WB PB Repo cruise :yay: I sure hope it's affordable :scared:

So for you guys who have done the repo before, who did you book it through? Did you leave it in the hands of Dreams Unlimited or did you bite the bullet and call DCL directly?

Anyone wanna share their 1st tier price they paid for their category? :confused3

Cass that is so funny because Tommy and I talked about the same thing last night. :thumbsup2 We are hoping that it will work into the schedule. I am interested in what you find out. Your puppies are soooo cute with or without hair. :flower3:

me thinks they are trying to force me into retirement.:sad1:
they sent us home 4 hrs early yesterday. then called and told us all to stay home today.:sad2:

oh well, off to clean carpets and listen to the DUV.:cool1:

It is happening every where. I think the economy is starting to turn around and it usually takes at least 6 months for jobs to rebound after the markets rebound. I am hoping that the fall will be better for everyone all the way around.

That just stinks!!!:headache:

You are so funny!!! Wedding pictures are never boring! Plus I may want to steal some ideas for our DS's wedding in July. ;) Every one can always make a road trip to Louisville after the wedding.

Is this the one that is supposedly early in 2011 on the Wonder Cass? Chuck and I were toying with the idea too but that's just waaaaaay too far away for us to consider right now. I suppose booking it wouldn't hurt though.:confused3

Yup, that's the one I am talking about ;) Never been on the Wonder, so that would be cool, plus it's the perfect time for us, Rob's slow season for all 3 jobs, Kira's not in school, yet and it will be nice to get away from our cold weather :thumbsup2

Life...what life? I was thinking the same thing Cass, when I logged on at lunchtime.

I'll check with Rick to see if he remembers what we did and how much it cost. We had a cat 11 sideways and our booking was handled by All Seasons Travel. Can't remember if we had a reservation with DCL in hand.

I'd love to the repo again and this time the other way. With it being the Wonder, you'll get to see Toy Story in the WD Theatre. We're gonna have to wait unfortunately, as Rick's contract at work will be up for renewal then. We might well make a 'dummy' booking in Oct, just in case, but depends on what deposit DCL are asking for. It was only $500 for the two of us last August.

Yes, looking forward to being on the Wonder! And it is a long way off so who knows what can happen but I plan on booking it in November when the first tier pricing comes out :cool1:

sorry.:sad2:my fault.:sad1:
people no doubt saw me on here last nite and logged off real fast.:guilty:

Mike, did you forget your deodorant again??? :rolleyes1

Too funny! Rob's too busy to keep up with his Disney news so I told him last night how the Wonder is sailing to California to stay there and told him that I would love to be on that sailing and he was all for it stating that it's a slow time for him :goodvibes

There's actually a cruise meet thread for it already and there's some information on there about previous repo's. I didn't read it all but will today :thumbsup2

Hey Mike I am listening to DUV too. Just finished Wii bowling with Walt. We had fun. Now he is planning our trip. I am dising then have a few errands to run. Say hi to Robin. I know she is busy writing her last paper. Plus the shower and birthday party this weekend. I wish I was close I could help. Diane

I did the same thing and added that there will not be graduations or weddings that year so it would be a perfect time for us to go. He has always wanted to do one of those crusies but the time of the year was bad for him to get off but if it is early 2011 then it would be perfect. We were on the wonder last year and liked it very much. It would be wonderful to be out of the cold for a couple of weeks. I will check out the thread also. Thanks!

Yes I thought it would be a good time since Kira wont be in school. It is so hard once the kids are in school. I would love to take my grandkids on a cruise but their school frowns upon days missed. Plus they have many activities. They are saving their money. I know someday they will be able to go on one. Diane
