she's mad because i've lost 6 lbs in 2 weeks.
says its easier for guys. she said she knows this guy in canada who can eat anything he wants and never gain a lb.

Well, we had a bit of a scare tonight...

Just got back from spending the evening at the Emergency Room with Kira. Rob gave her a muffin from Tim Hortons (coffee place) and she had a severe allergic reaction. One side of her face was all swollen. By the time we got to the hospital, her eye was starting to swell up a little and she had welts all over her body.

They gave her some Benilyn and a prescription for an epi-pen. The swelling started to come down on it's own after about 2 hours but the welts were still there when we left. We have to follow up with her family doctor and just monitor her.

We're not 100% sure it was the muffin but it was the last thing she ate just before she reacted. I am calling Tim Horton's in the morning and getting the ingredients of that muffin just so we know. The doctor said that it was most likely some type of nut.

She's never had any type of reaction before and she's had strawberries and raspberries and peanuts and other typical reactive foods.




Karen, we were so worried and helpless, I don't know how you deal with this every day. Kudos to you for braving what you have to every day

She never seemed to be in pain at all, I asked if she had any owies and she shook her head no. She was obviously bothered by her ears (rubbing them) and the lip situation seemed uncomfortable but she was always in good spirits.

Her and Rob were shopping at Costco and she had the muffin in the tray in her stroller, which is cleaned often but I guess you never know what could possibly have gotten on there. Rob said she was eating it at check out and seemed fine. He paid for the stuff and it wasn't until he went to put her in the car seat that he noticed the swelling.

The doctor said it would have had to be something she ate and the muffin was the last thing she ate. She's had muffins from there many many times before, this particular one many times before but not for a couple of months.

So, unfortunately, it could be a lot of things.

I am going to see her family doctor and talk about allergy testing and other stuff as I am very new to all this. I have allergies but they are all environmental and the only thing I have to put up with is the fact that I always need a pocket full of kleenex wherever I go.

How scary for all of you Poor Kira, glad to hear none of those welts hurt, they sure look like they would. I hope they are able to get the allergy testing done soon so you can get some answers

Great cake, although I had no clue what kind of spaceship it was. After reading all the answers I had to ask Scott what that was. He let me know it was from Star Wars. Guess i should have watched that movie sometime in my lifetime.
