10-21-12 Dream!!!

DD (3rd grade) and DS (K) will be missing school. I will too since I'm a teacher. Our schools don't "test" until April so this isn't close to the testing window for us. I would NEVER take DD out for such a long time if she wasn't a good student. I know she can handle the make-up work and not be behind when she gets back. Our school does give special permissions for family trips as long as the students aren't struggling and the parents agreee to make sure they still get thier work done. Since I work there DD doesn't have any hope of getting out of that make-up work! I'll also have her do some sort of journal about the trip. DS isn't as big of a deal since it is Kingergarten.

I'm actually much more worried about me missing the week than them! I still haven't decided if I am going to take that Friday off as well. It IS my birthday but I tend to get a bad case of "work-guilt:guilty:" when I take off!

well, as the saying goes, when you have one foot in the grave no one ever feels guilty that they didn't spend more time at work....
you'll feel guilty that you didn't spend more time with your family..

and another thing, when the day comes and you leave that job, they'll forget you ever existed within 5 minutes of you walking out the door....ok, maybe not 5 minutes, but it won't take them long to get over you not being there...
somehow i doubt that would be true of your family!

We have school break that week though I do not have children of my own to bring along. But the break allows me the time to go. Many ask me why I go one a break where there are going to be loads of children....but I think that DCL has done an amazing job in providing the balance for the kids, the families and the solo adults. And we all get to be young young at heart with the magic of Disney!
Can't lose!

i was just curious why so many kids....i wasn't aware there was a school break that week....
we're going that week because we'll be at a conference in orlando on thursday-saturday....so it made sense to go on a cruise on sunday! :)

I'm taking my girls out of school. They'll be in 7th, 5th, and 3rd grades this year. The 5 days I'll end up keeping them out won't have a huge impact, as they're all straight-A kids. I will let the teachers know in advance (and hopefully be able to get some make-up work), but I'm not going to stress over the absence. I'll end up getting a letter from the truancy office due to the 5 unexcused absences in one month, which is an unavoidable formality.

This will be a year for evaluation for us, however, as my oldest is taking a high school credit course, and we need to make sure she can keep up with this while also maintaining her average.

i was watching the podcast cruise sailing away just now....
a taste of where we'll be in a few months from now:

I finally managed to scan my Navigators from my April 1, 2012 4-Night on the Dream. It is the same itinerary that we will travel. Not sure how to post them here but if anyone wants to have a look at them for ideas of what to expect, I can figure out how to post them or perhaps send them via email.

Tell me what you want/think.

Christopher

I will be 3 decks below you on Deck 6, 6190. I had this room on the Fantasy in April and love being at the back of the ship. Great large balconies. Some people complain of a bit of vibrations when coming into ports but it was not that bad in my opinion. And the aft stairs take you straight up to Cabanas for breakfast and lunch.

You can actually email the pdf attachments directly to DISboards who will upload them.

Christopher that's great!!!! well done!!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks!!! Figured it out. And now I can post a little each day to help us build up the anticipation. Just need to remind everyone that these are of course subject to changes for our sailing but will help to give an idea of what to expect.

I also have a 100 Day countdown that someone gave to me that I will post soon if people want it to post on the wall at h ome to cross off the final 100 days to sailing.

We need to get some excitement rolling here again.

And of course the FE signups are still open!!!

117 DAYS TO SAILING

That's so awesome!

I have 3 kids (4 - son, 7 - son and 9 - daughter). I see from your picture that you have 2! And I just checked out your post and learned that your daughter will be a 3rd grader - mine too!
