10/15/2011 - Taking the West by Magic!

Grand Cayman seems like a good place to enjoy the beaches! I really enjoyed the straw market at Nassau. Does anyone know if either Grand Cayman or Cozumel might have something similar? In Nassau I picked up some wonderful purses and I was hoping to do the same on this cruise.

There's a shopping area just as you get off the boat in Cozumel. I don't know if they have super prices, but the shopping presentation the night before would probably tell you.

Did I read somewhere that the shopping presentations the evenings before the ports are also televised? On my last cruise I hated to spend my time going to the shopping presentations! I'm really not much of a shopper but I would like to pick up some knock off purses like I did in Nassau. I have also heard that silver is inexpensive in Cozumel and would like to possibly pick up some jewelry.

Honestly, I'm not sure, probably, but I've never sat through one or watched it on TV. I'm really not much of a shopper!

A question for the veteran cruisers:

Do you carry your passport ashore? If not what do you bring along?

There are a ton of post about this. I carry mine because it's got my married name on it, so I need it to get back on the boat. I also carry it because it's the legal form of ID when you're in another country. As far as Disney is concerned, they only need a driver's license or picture ID to get you back on board, but should it be needed, authorities in Cayman or Mexico probably won't accept a US driver's license as ID. Plus, your passport also acts as your visa into the country proving that you're there legally.

My advice, take your passports, leave a color copy in the safe.

We also take ours ashore and I leave a copy in our stateroom safe and leave a copy at my work with a co-worker, so if I need it faxed to the US embassy wherever we may be then it can be done too. I know a little overboard but I just need to know that if i need it - I know I can get it.

For the men-folk out there - seeing as my DH (and DD) aren't with me on this trip I have an assortment of Disney neckties available that I could bring if anyone was interested in borrowing one. Four are Mickey and one Lion King - Young Simba. They are light and easy to pack so I will probably bring them along anyway but I don't mind sharing.

Lynn

Lynn, I just wanted to tell you how very nice of you!!! :flower3:

Yeah, I have found lots of advice for this topic--I figured I would ask what you folks do and just copy you :)

I appreciate the offer, too. However, I am looking forward to this trip as an opportunity to wear some of my own Disney ties since I don't wear a tie that often. What doesn't make sense is that I have bought two more for this trip. I keep buying them and then my DW says they don't match her outfit, so I have to buy another. ;)

Hi guys Im still here I just have been really busy I am goingto be busy for the next two weeks then I'll be back on:thumbsup2 catch up with you all soon :cool1:

Also, I can't wait to see what recent movies they will be playing aboard. Right now it looks like the most likely candidate will be The Lion King in its 3-D release.

It looks like I calculated wrong, Lion King 3-D will be just a 2-week release so it will be out of the theatres before our sailing. My next guess is that Real Steel, the robot movie starring Hugh Jackman, will be the big movie of the cruise.

Totally allowed!

Aren't you guys moving soon if you haven't already? I'd say that makes for a pretty busy couple of weeks!

Jillian may want to see Lion King 3D, they'll probably still have it as they show the movies in the theater on the ship for awhile, even after they're out of the theater. Real Steel is Dreamworks, I think they're still under their deal with Disney, so we may get that one, but I'm not sure...

I'd love to see the Lion King...it's one of our favorite Disney movies. So, do we have the option to see the movie on one of the nights instead of a show, or does the movie run regularly throughout the cruise?

It'll run regularaly through the cruise. Usually they play in the Buena Vista theater, which isn't the main theater. When we get on board () then along with the first day's Navigators, we'll also have the movie schedule in our staterooms for the week. If there's a Disney movie being released that week (and I haven't checked, so I don't know if there is) then we'll get to see if in the Walt Disney Theater on the Thursday night before at Midnight, which I guess would make it Friday morning...

Jillian loved the Lion King as a kid, and watched it every day for like a year almost. I know every stinking word to that movie! And I still get choked up at the end when Simba is showing his daughter to the animal kingdom.

I know I'm probably the ONLY one that does not have passports! Im a cheapskate and that is why...but now I'm a little worried and think I need to get them...do you think it is too late?

Hi. I just booked this cruise This AM! for myself & my hubby. We had DVC points to use up, so what better way to use them! This will be my 3rd tme on the Magic & Mike's 2nd. We liver in St Catharines, Ontario, Canada. We have cruised quite a few times on other lines, catching up for lost time! We just met 6 yrs ago & will be celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary on the cruise. I understand that Palo is booked , does anyone know if they leave some spots available for walk ins that we can reserve when we get on the ship? If anyone has a ressie for an extra 2, we would love to join you
Thanks Val & Mike

No, it's not too late at all, you can probably even get them without a rush on it, they usually run about 3 weeks of processing time, you can get them in 2 weeks if you pay for the rush.

You don't have to have them, you can sail with a birth certificate and photo ID, but I always feel better knowing that I have it. Like the old saying, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Hey Val, welcome aboard! You should check with OnkleHans, he's coordinating out brunch at Palo to use the private room. I think we need another couple to get the count?

Renee, when I got Kyle and Becca's a few months back, the guy told us how long it was currently taking to receive them. When you go in, be sure to ask and you should know if you need to expedite them. For ours, they came a few days later than he had told us...I would build in a little extra time from what they tell you just to make sure. :goodvibes
