When I read Eric's post about wanted to shed a few kilos..I laughed! Here I am attempting to devour a package of Peanut Butter Oreos! :rotfl: Got Milk? Eric, when you lose those few kilos...I can tell you where they are...on ME!
Then poor Jim gives us a synopsis of a VERY bad morning which happens to include COOKIES! Jim, Glad that no human or animal was harmed in this mornings events! Cookies make a good snack anytime of day! I always look forward to reading your posts! You bring a smile to our day! :teeth:
Off to get more milk, I still have a few cookies left.....

Michelle,
cookies, gummibears, and chocolate are my greatest enemies - I simply have to destroy them :teeth: Anja and I just had dinner, a salad with some tuna (No oil, of course) - and then we 'killed' a bag of honey-flavoured Pooh-gummibears  But as we did a 5km(3.125mls)-run already and 50 minutes of Badminton, we deserved it :earboy2: And tomorrow we'll run 4-5 miles and do an hour of Pump (Weight training class).

And there will be more action tomorrow: We'll sign the contract for the new car. The offer from the dealership 150 miles away was the best, so we'll accept it. Tonight Anja and I made the most important decision: The colour :rotfl: We chose 'Dakota Beige', which is something between sand and gold. The interior will be dark-grey leather. I'll post some pics (As soon as I find out how to post pics ;) ) The positive side-effect of choosing that dealership: It is not far from the other Germs, so we'll have another opportunity to meet them :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Eric..I think you and I are going to get along just fine! :flower: I have a friend from the States who lived in Dormagan for 2 years. Her DH works for Bayer. She got us hooked on Kinder Schokolade! She would send us Kinder bars whenever she sent a package home. Also, she would send the boys what we called Eggs. They are the schokolade with toys inside! I was really careful not let the boys have too many at a time so they would last longer! They are gone now! I would in turn, send her chocolate chips so she could make cookies as well as other things she could not get there.
Can't WAIT to see photos of the new car! Sounds pretty! I am glad you got the deal you wanted!

Did I read correctly that some of you were able to make arrangements to be seated with other DISers at dinner? How were you able to do this? This sounds like a great idea....getting to know your table mates BEFORE you cruise! Anyone interested in trying to sit with my family & I? Hubby & I are both Pharmacists & we have a DD who will be 7 when we cruise & a DS who will be 3 1/2 when we cruise.

Walczak4 - Some of us have indeed linked our reservations for dinner. It is very easy to do as you provide the other diner's reservation number to your TA or disney directly and the two reservations will be linked for dining.

Are you dining early or late?

It is great meeting your table mates before the cruise.

Fiona

I LOVED setting up dinner with fellow DISers before the cruise. It made it so much easier that first night, because we already "knew" them.

Jim - You don't post often, but when you do...... :rotfl: :teeth:

....Personnally I didnt know why Jeff felt he was the boss of the internet and what was posted. I actually looked to see if he was now a moderator or what.....
You mean he's not?? (I've shoulda known especially when I read either here or on other thread SueEllen's response to him and she IS a moderator --ummm - I think it was SueEllen--!)

Anyway, when he said the part about not sending PM's to people because you will not get an answer, I was thinking about what happened to the other repo cruise thread being closed and PM's being intercepted and people being banned. I certainly didn't want to cause a problem with our thread since I had twice written on this thread with questions and concerns. By the time he posted, however, I did figure out that none of our Cruistoberfesters were involved so I just accepted his authority on the matter.

I'll post this once, and then let it be since apparently it was totally misconstrued, after that you can say whatever you please about me, acuse me of doing whatever, and frankly I could care less.

First, I *WAS* one of the people that both pulled the person out of the water, and *WAS* one of the people that spent 30 minutes on the beach doing everything we could in order to save a life.

Second, I was thanked personally by the family still on board, for what I posted asking that speculation stop and we wait for their announcement. If you choose to disrepect that, then frankly I could care less about your opinion of me.

Finally, The post that was posted here, had no facts other then a disboarder had passed away and speculated at possible causes.. I did not want to discourage anyone from PM'ing friends and family members to make sure they were ok. If you felt that was what I meant, then you read way to much into it. What I posted was a direct statement asking that you do not post seeking information on what happened, and did not PM other cruisers to see if they had information as to what happened. It merely expressed what I had already heard from the family and friends on board, as well as the opinions of the other disboard members who were VERY directly impacted by the situation. The original post without any information did nothing except A) Peak the natural human curiousity about the situation (Which as we stated earlier, is difficult to contain, but we must out of respect for the family) and B) cause anyone reading the post to panic that it might have been their loved one that was lost.

That said, I stand by my original post, that until the family comes forth with a statement, the only thing we should be discussing should be our condolences to the family, or not discussing the subject at all. I am not a disboard moderator, and I don't pretend to be one. But I am compassionate, I am an EMT, I've witnessed more deaths first hand then all but a few people on this board, and most of all, I know how I'd want others to react if I was in the same situation. 95% of the people on these boards have been nothing but respectful of the situation and have contained thier curiousity. If you all feel like crucifying me for the actions, I'll show up at Port Canaveral on your departure day and you can hurl all the stones you want. I know I did what was right, and what the family felt was right.

Those of you who still question my actions, ask if it was your mother or your father. Ask if you would want to find out through some internet chat board, in a situation where communication with your family is not quick, or easy and realize that at the time the initial announcement was made, the family that had left the ship was still on one of the out islands of the bahamas.

Anyway, I'm done with this subject, I've put this thread on ignore and could care less what anyones opinions of me are going forward. When its my turn, I'll know I have a clean conscience and hopefully no one will spread fear, uncertanty or doubt to other families when I do go.

I was sure I posted this morning but it doesn't seem to be here.

Thanks for posting Kim. Wish I was there too!.

Yup - I meant Dancing Queen -- did they ever find the song for her??

Jeanne - Glad that you are sticking with golf - myself I can't stand the game. The one great thing about being so busy this summer is that I will be unable to attend the annual golf torture afternoon. We play best ball but depending on how the teams work out nobody wants my best ball, ever! Managed to get out of it last year and this year shouldn't be a problem at all.

Fiona

Oh yeah, they finally found it. She started singing (?) and that was just about the time that most of us who were still there decided it was time for bed so we all got up and walked out! We could still hear her screeching as we approached the lobby! And your golf game sounds just like mine....we also do best ball, but we call it "scramble". If I get one "best ball" I consider the event a success....and it's usually a putt anyway. Last year I would sign up every other week and pray for rain. Now I'm going out twice a week and am determined to whip this thing.....but I still always end up apologizing to my fellow teammates.
Jim:Loved your story about your bad day, but you know it's going to get better.....STAR WARS PREMIERES AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!!!!!!!! I can't believe it's the last one....I know I'll be bawling as I leave the theatre.

Unfortunately for me on each team you have to use at least one drive from each person off the tee. And unfortunately my drive off the tee goes about 5 feet! We have some very good golfers in the office and some of them take this once a year outing very seriously -- the winning team gets a free lunch. Unfortunately too I always seem to get on a team that has someone on it that wants the free lunch and makes not so nice comments about my lack of golfing skills. They were amazed the first year when I announced that other than minigolf I don't golf. It was not a pleasant afternoon and needless to say our team didn't win the lunch.

Star Wars - Star Wars -- want to go see it this weekend but can't see it at midnight as darn it all I have to work tomorrow and Friday!

Fiona

Jim good to know that everything worked out in the end. Eric I thought that gummy bears were a no no with your dental work :confused3 You need about 750ml of Lynchburg Tennessee spring water with the old number 7 on the label.

Also congratulations on the new car, enjoy the feel of the air rushing through your receding hairline as you pass 40 years of age. :rotfl2: One good thing about aging is that it doesn't take as long to comb our hair.

Hope that everyone had a good day ashore and we will be looking for the magic as it goes through the canal. Mike

Here's a new topic. Do we need one?

I've got Fifth Disease. Has anyone had this as an adult? My son's whole class has had it! It started a couple months ago and I'd say he is the 23rd one to get it. It is highly contagious but only before one shows any symptoms. With kids it is usually a rash and some mild cold symptoms - which for my sons lasted about 2 days. For adults it manifests like severe arthritis and anemia. Ouch. My whole body aches. I've been light headed and short of breath for about a week (anemia, I now know) and this morning I couldn't open my hands all the way because my knuckles were so swollen. I had to soak my hand in ice water and use dish soap and lotion to get my wedding rings off. All my joints and muscles ache. My son's teacher has it too and she said the doctor told her it is a six week minimum!!! and may last for months! She's on week five and only now starting to feel better at all.

Anyway, put me in your prayers as I am not a very patient person and will have a tough time not being able to do some things. Also, if you've had it, I'd love to hear your experience with it.

Jennifer

Oh, Jennifer!! I feel for you!! Fifths disease was going around my DDs preschool earlier this year. Luckily, none of her class got it. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Jennifer...sending you prayers /\ and pixie dust .*.*.* for a speedy recovery! That must be painful!

Walczak4...Steve is also a pharmacist...he works retail. I was a retail Rx Tech before having babies! However, our boys will be a bit older then your childern...ours will be 9 and 11 when we cruise. We currently don't have any tablemates...let me know if you might be interested! I am not sure the kids will be compatible, but it sounds like we would!

Pixie Dust~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* and prayers for you Jennifer. Mike

:confused3 I know its been a rough week and I know the adrenaline is still pumping. I understand the point you are trying to convey, however, if you feel you have to be defensive, please re-read you prior posts.

I thought this subject was over with also. Glad to hear that you are an EMT. You may not be aware, that many on this thread are medical personnel also. Many have been in life or death situations. Whether, we are medical or not, we ARE a compassionate group. I just met my dis-friends on our last cruise and they are the nicest folks you'll ever meet. My daughter went missing on Coki beach in St. Thomas and although I've only known these people for a day or so, they all dropped what they were doing and gave it their all to find her. I'm so grateful.
The tone in all of your communications has unfortunately (whether intended or not) had come across as condescending (I'll admit that's how I've taken them). That's the good old computer world.
We're all adults and respect goes both ways. Unfortunately we weren't up to being lectured or judged as a bunch of "stone throwers". Once again, please chill and let's move on to more pleasant things.
Sorry Cruisetoberfest folks, I had to vent.
Laura

With Laura reminding us how many of our group are in the medical profession, I thought I would share something with you.

My mom just recently had a health scare. Mom is a retired nurse. She had pain in her left arm for a long time, going to the doctor once. The pain never stopped and she did not go back in. About a month ago she was having a hard time feeling a pulse in her left arm. She also had a couple bouts of chest pain that resolved quickly. On April 30, the chest pain was severe and went up into her neck. She was nauseated. The pain went away, so she went back to bed. It happened again that night. When she told my sister and I about it, we made her go to the doctor, who directed her to a cardiologist. The cardiologist admitted her. She had blockages in two arteries in her heart at 90% and 95% and had two stents put in. She just returned today for the pain in her arm and they found the subclavian artery was 98% blocked. She is now feeling great and looks so much better than she had.

Don't ignore these warning signs, just because you don't want to go into the hospital. Don't think it's nothing. Get it checked out. Mom was very lucky, she had no damage to her heart at all.

Thanks for listening!

Tracy

Tracy,
I can only second this: A coworker of mine came to me several years ago and complained about a numbness in his right arm since two weeks ago. Knowing that he always has high blood pressure, I told him that this may be a sign for a stroke - A small one, but a stroke nevertheless. He waved this off as unnecessary panic. So next day I asked him wether the numbness was still there. He said 'Yes'. I called a neurologist near our company and made an appointment for him. Then I went to his desk, gave him a slip with the adress and time on it and told hiem to get there on time - otherwise I would drag him there :teeth: A couple of hours later he came back with a preliminary diagnosis of a minor stroke. He then had to undergo an MRT some days later, and yes, it was a stroke. He still has that numbness today, but if he had reacted immediately there would have been ways to make it disappear.
Six months later the same happened to a close buddy of his (Also a coworker of ours), but this time I had no problems convincing this guy to be admitted to a hospital ASAP. This guy had a paralysis of half his body, loss of speech, etc, (At age 38) but due to our fast reaction he recovered completely!!
