10/1/21 (Planning thread for those w/ Magic Kingdom ressies on the BIG 50th)!

Im officially getting excited, been working hard on ressies, we are arriving on 9/29 to catch the last HEA, gonna spend 5 days in the parks, including MK on 10/1, and will be there from open to close like always! We got CRT breakfast that morning, leaving the rest of the day free so we don't miss out on any special pixie dust or happenings. gonna check out new night shows on 10/1 at mk and 10/2 at epcot. Also got ADRs for Steakhouse '71 and Space 220 for the weekend, gonna hopefully get Remy on Sat, we'll see!!!

Finally posting to the thread. The 3 of us will be there. Checking into Contemporary on 9/29 for 4 nights. I wanted to be able to walk to MK on the 1st. I’d like to get day of merch but not if we have to stand in line for hours. We’ll see what happens. We were there for the 25th but I expect this to be much crazier.

I’m sure this has been discussed but I couldn’t find anything on a search. Sorry if this is a repeat or this may be helpful to consolidate details.

What exclusive events, items, or experiences should we expect specifically for, and only on October 1st for Magic Kingdom’s 50th?

For example, I was on site when Galaxy’s Edge opened. There were some “Day 1” photo ops, I think the park map/brochure was limited edition, and I recall exclusive merchandise.

With the castle decorated and general 50th merchandise in stores already (and for the next 18-months), I’d like to catch as many ‘October 1st Only’ items as possible.

From previous anniversaries, will there be speeches, ceremonies, merchandise, entertainment, etc…?

Did you all see this announcement on the Disney Parks Blog?!? They are live streaming the new Fireworks shows before 10/1! If anyone hears we can actually be in the parks during these previews, let us know!

HMMM
9/29 EPCOT hours are 11-9 and live stream at 9.... so that is probably with guests
9/30 MK hours are posted as 9-8 BUT live stream is at 10:15

If the 50th celebration starts on 10/1 and runs for 18 months, seems a better strategy would be to wait a few months and then go to Disney. I imagine 10/1 will be wall-to-wall people as if Disney isn't already crowded enough. Think I will pass.

If you're planning to be at MK on 10/1, come on over to this thread discuss!
Threads merged.

I booked lunch at Crystal Palace for October 1st weeks ago. I hoped character dining would be back and planned to cancel if that was not the case.

...but now I am afraid to cancel because I may not be able to eat anywhere if I don't have a reservation. LOL.

Watching the Dis Unplugged, Kevin Klose keeps saying you need to book your quick service lunch at by 9am or you don't eat.
Is mobile order that bad? How are others planning to eat on October 1st?

I have an 11:45 lunch and ordering mobile order dinner early in the day.

there are time slots I think people anticipate they will fill up quickly. So that’s my plan, still holding our hope for a dinner but not banking on it.

I have been 3x times since Covid for a total of 29 park days. I have had to order my mobile food in the morning exactly once out of fear of being locked out, in January, for Woody’s Lunchbox.

no issues August 2020 or 2021. I do however plan to order my food for the day in the morning on 10/1. Better safe than sorry.

I’m sorry. I’ve heard Kevin mention the ordering thing and had no idea what he was talking about. Any time we’ve used mobile ordering, we placed our order and picked it up 10-15 minutes later, including earlier this month. Why would you need to order hours in advance? And if you do that, don’t you still have to hit “I’m here” before they actually make your food?

I suppose we can order early if there’s some advantage to that. Please tell me why that would matter.

There are only so many slots for ordering in each order window, if they all fill up at say 1-1:15 you need to pick the next slot. The theory is if all the slots fill up early you won’t get food.

I wish they would give us some clues to a schedule (if any) soon. I bet it would free up some ADRs because some people will cancel if it overlaps with something they really care about. I have breakfast and lunch too close together, so I’m definitely dropping one but don’t know which. Their silence is driving me crazy lol!

Does anyone know what time of day on Fridays the hours extension hits? I was hoping to see an 11pm MK close on 10/1. I feel like getting out after fireworks is going to be terrible!!

I think the calendar has already updated for today since hours have been added through 12/3. Bummer. The only silver lining I can see is if cancellations will cause lower crowds than originally thought. I’m not holding my breath for that, though.
