1 PIN + 1 DING + YES = a Surprise Live TR Updated - the force is strong with us

By the time we mosey on over to the Hippy Dippy Pool, it is about 4:30. We hadn't done lunch, but we'd all snacked on the fruit and goodies from Publix in the room. DH and I had decided to play eating by ear as it was so hot, no one was really hungry.

Good thing, too. I am not exactly screening my calls because Sports Illustrated is hounding me to be the cover model for the next swimsuit issue, but goodness. gracious. Apparently not all the rooms at POP! have working mirrors, based on things I saw. Things that cannot be unseen. Scary things.

There was the french couple in their late 40s. I don't think her suit was designed as a thong, it just turned into one. And it really had not business being one. As her SO took photos of her cavorting (and there really is no other way to describe the way she was posing), the rest of us wondered if she even had a suit bottom on. :scared1: We tried not to look, but it was like that wreck that you know will haunt you and yet you just can't seem to turn away...

Fortunately, just as it was getting pretty bad, they started the water balloon competition and we were distracted... DS and DD had a ball playing poolside games and swimming in the pool for over an hour.

We pull their pruny bodies out of the pool, luring them with the promise of good food and maybe even dessert...(good parenting technique or not, bribery DOES work :rolleyes1) and head of to Coronado Springs Pepper Market for dinner. We are trying to avoid burgers and nuggets, and after perusing menus at allearsnet, it seems to me that the best way to do this is to visit the counter service places at the resorts.

I'd never seen CS before, and DH and I have decided that the next time we want to stay at a moderate, this is the place for us! The Pepper Market is great, and the overall atmosphere is really well done. For supper, I had fajitas, DH had pasta with sausage, DD had a quesadilla and DS had a kids spaghetti and meatballs. Very tasty! We decided to walk to the CS pool area to take a look, and that sealed the deal - it is wonderful! The pool is beautiful, and the play area is very well done with a sandbox, multiple climbing frames and slides and swings.

On the way back from looking at the pool area, DD reminds me that we had promised dessert, but not yet delivered. We stop by Rix (another counter service at CS) and get some gelato. Good stuff!

I remind the kids that we need to get a little schoolwork done, and both of them get right on it in the room. DD has figured out a way to incorporated our visit to Epcot WS into her English project by interviewing cast members of the respective countries she is researching. So if you see a young woman interviewing CMs at Epcot using her iTouch, she and her mom aren't nuts, they are just us :teacher: doing what we can to further her education.

On deck for tomorrow: Rope Drop at DHS, and then on to Epcot...

Which building are you in, the big wheel or Mickey phone? We were there in August, Mickey phone building. In fact, my sister has that phone.:rotfl: My family likes to go to other resort CS, as well. Pepper Market is must do, so is Captain Cooks at Poly. I agree with you, Dinosaur is loud and jerky. I'm always seated on the outside, so I can get the dinosaur roar right in my ear. It's not one of my favorites, either.

Fun report! I was laughing out loud at your description of the pool scene:happytv: :rotfl:...DD12 asked me what I was reading...look forward to reading more!

I'm having SO much fun reading your TR! Loved your description of your pool experience LOL!! Can't wait to hear the rest. Hope MK isn't too crowded for you on Saturday but the important thing is being able to say you were there for the 40th.

Thanks for coming along! DH and I saw the French lady in the food court this morning - and we didn't dare make eye contact with one another! :rotfl:

We've been hearing all kinds of rumors about what they are doing for the 40th. Right now our plan is to get there way before rope drop, and plan to hop to another park once it gets too crazy to move.

Sorry for the delay - yesterday was a long day and we all zonked when we got back to the room. Heck, I even slept, so you know we wore ourselves out!

Here is the post I started before crashing:

Early start to the morning. I am the first one up (you may have noticed, but I don’t sleep much), and once I am ready head on over to the Food Court for toast and coffee. The toast is for the kids, the coffee is all mine!

DD starts dawdling, so I pull her to one side and let her in on the pixie dust we are trying to make happen. In on the secret, she actually gets everyone else in gear.

We are out the door by 8:10, and get to DHS before 8:30. I assign DH the task of going through security without us (we have bags) and getting in line for Jedi sign up. Once we catch up with DH, there are already tons of people in line – but the CM says we should get a spot. If you are even remotely considering the Jedi training experience, follow the advice I got right here on the DIS:disrocks: – we were in the park more than 30 minutes prior to rope drop and even then, we got the last show of the morning (number 13 out of 15 at that!).

While DH and DS wait to see if our offspring is suitable Padawan material, DD and I shop in the stores along the main drag, something we’ve not done before, believe it or not. I find a t-shirt with a spiderweb that looks like a Mickey head and decide to splurge. We meet back up with the boys and DS can barely contain his excitement – he has been accepted into the training academy! We celebrate by taking him on his inaugural ride on Star Tours, and who should appear to tell us what to do but Yoda himself! This day is getting better and better for DS, and DHS is quickly turning into a great park for our family.

After Star Tours, DS tells me that he is too old for playhouse Disney, and I feel my heart break. But it quickly gets better when he adds “But since it’s Disney Junior now, Mommy, that’s ok. Disney Junior has Jake and the Neverland pirates.” Ah, the nuances of being six…

While DS and DH go see Jake, DD and I do the Great Movie Ride, a sentimental favorite of ours. Right after that, we enjoy TSM (although, once again, DH cleans my clock…) Then it’s time for DS to report to training. It is so hot, we all decide to hang out in the air conditioning after he is checked in. About 10 minutes before it is set to start, DD and I go to the stage where the show will be, stopping for frozen treats along the way. I think I must have missed a memo…Itzakadoozies are nowhere to be found. I hope they have not replaced them with the “triple blast,” but it looks as though they might have…

The jedi training is fantastic! DS had a great time, and even laughed at Darth Vader. The only downside is he spent the rest of the day trying to see how strong his force is. Naturally, after receiving his diploma, he had to build his own light saber to commemorate the occasion, as well as go on Star Tours a second time.

Finally, we took in the Indiana Jones stunt show, another first for our family. I can’t believe we’ve been missing it all this time! DS likes Indy almost as much as he does Star Wars, and DD enjoyed the show as well. Crowd levels have been higher than I think anyone predicted this week. The Indy theater was completely full by the time the show started. Wait times haven’t been a major issue, but we’ve had to be smart about fastpasses.

Once the show is over, we decide to head over to Epcot so that DD can work on a school project. She is supposed to be writing a travel blog pretending to go to several countries that just so happen to be in the WS.

Up to this point in the trip, I have been doing very well with healthy eating. I haven't had so much as one Mickey Bar. All that is about to change.

We've never found a CS we like at DHS, so we decide to go to Beaches and Cream for lunch. The kids and I enjoy a boat ride while DH moves the car (and, believe it or not arrive simultaneously). I could have had a salad. They had one on the menu, but my inner "I'm on vacation" voice kicked in, and I had a cheeseburger instead. It was out of this world (really, it was good, although I probably thought it was even better since it was my first burger in months). That was bad enough, but then DD asks if she can have a chocolate malt, which is an all-time favorite of mine. I steal the metal cup and help myself to several spoonfuls.

Feeling satisfied and guilty all at the same time, DD and I take the boat to the International Gateway - the boys are going to take the car and take their time getting to us so that DD can have plenty of time to interview CMs about tourist sites in their native countries for her school project. We start in the UK, and I am so proud of DD. She'd brought her iTouch along to record the interviews, prepared questions in advance, and took photos of artifacts.

The boys catch up with us in France, where DS is recruited to save the world (clearly his jedi reputation preceeds him, LOL) on a KimPossible mission. DD and I enjoy the movie (another first!) before doing "research" at the patisserie.

At this point, we start to notice that it has gotten really crowded. Really crowded. I don't think I have ever seen Epcot this full. And everyone seems to be drinking heavily. By the time we get to Germany, I see security explaining to people why they aren't going to be served any more  Putting together conversations with various CMs, it appears that a lot of CMs who aren't working and many locals came today knowing that the F&W festival would have a soft opening. We plow through and get the four countries DD needs for school taken care of, plus a Gran Fiesta Tour in Mexico and head back to Future World. Test Track is first on the list - a family favorite! Then we decide we have enough time for Soarin' before heading out for the night.

We had originally planned to eat dinner in the WS, but we were so full from our late lunch that we didn't even think about food at first, and then when we started to, we didn't want the kids to play spot the drunk while they waited for the food. Fortunately, I'd done my DIS research, so I had back up options ready as soon as we got to the car. It was time to introduce DH to the grown up grilled cheese at Capt. Cooks...

I loved the pulled pork sandwich and Asian slaw, and DD really enjoyed the chicken noodle bowl. Since I had gone so horribly wrong, I decided that it wouldn't hurt to have a Dole Whip while I was at it (pineapple, of course). Incredibly yummy!

This morning was the activity that got us here to begin with: YES classes. DS was signed up for "How things move," and DD was signed up for "Light waves and sound waves: physics in action."

I was going to take DD, and DH was going to go with DS, but somehow or another, we swapped off. DS and I, along with about 10 other people, made our way to a quiet spot in Tomorrowland to hear about gears and fuel and other ways things move. From there, we go to Winnie the Pooh with an assignment: look for gears. We only spot a couple, although we know there must be plenty more in use. Next up is Dumbo - and the gears are in plain sight. This class is really neat, very age appropriate. I am really glad we signed up. Around this time, DD and DH start her class and I get a text from DH that their class will include HM, and they will be going way behind the scenes!

DS and I finish class before DD and DH, so we go to battle Zurg. I make a personal best score - 259,400! To some of you, that may sound pathetic, but to someone like me who has never broken 50k before, I felt rather proud!

Love this trip report!

Too funny about the people at the pool. I want to sign up for the Yes program your DD did just to get the behind the scenes access to the HM!!!:thumbsup2 Sounds like your having a wonderful time. If you pass out at the end of a Disney day from exhaustion you know you did something right!:lmao:
Can't wait to read more.
