1 Person-1 Night-$100: Would You Do It?

Since the Frequent Flyer voucher doesn't expire until March, Why don't you wait until you have more time off to take a nice Disney vacation of at least four or five days? A day is a waste of time IMO for a trip.

I would have no issues going to a value the night after AKL if I could spend an extra night. you really don't need to buy much. It's just a fun trip. sounds like food will be covered and you really don't need to eat like a full fancy trip. Just get basics. QS lunch and dinner, or dinner with your landrys cards.
I do think you will be charged the 911 fee for both ways. So figure on $10 there. At least I have in the past.
You could check and see what SSR has open and maybe just switch to stay there both nights.
I did a solo trip once and it was so much fun. I did know some people there when I arrived and did some things with them and some on my own.
I did spend more than I planned, but only because I had Mommy guilt and bought things for my daughter. But she would've been happy with just one thing really.
Go for it!!!!

Four to five days away without my husband probably couldn't happen and he won't vacation again before next summer. He is the cornerstone of our business and we just went for 10 days earlier this month. He will take a day or two off here and there, but not that much time between now and June (at least not to go to Disney again).

I am seriously considering postponing the trip until late January or early February. I may be able to find consecutive days for a DVC studio mid-week during that period. Although, being in Disney for the Christmas season would be nice...

As of right now, I have my flights booked and the room reserved for December. I've got a couple of weeks to mull it all over and tweak my plans. I may take the advice to waitlist an AKV value studio for a second night and then change my return flight if it comes through.

I agree about the Christmas season and would probably stick with your plan in that case. I absolutely love Disney at Christmastime. :santa:

I have never been to Disney at Christmastime so I would go even if it meant a shorter time.

If the trip is so short I would rent a car. Since you only need it a few days it would not be a huge cost and you don't have to wait for Disney transporation to take you some where.

You won´t regret the things you actually do as much as the things you don't get to do.

Have a great time!

I would try to stay the extra night. Try Saratoga or OKW for the extra night, or both nights. OKW has large rooms and requires lower points. Enjoy!

I just wanted to post an update.

1 person/1 night/$100 has now mushroomed into 2 people/3 nights/$??? Those of you who recommended a longer stay had a strong influence on me...not that it takes much to convince me to spend more time in Disney! ;)

I was able to get 3 consecutive nights in a studio at OKW @10 pts./night. Value studios at AKV are 9 pts./night but it's almost impossible to get multiple consecutive nights at this point. The total difference of 3 points is not going to kill me. Plus, having 2 beds instead of 1 bed and a pullout sofa is going to be a bonus since my daughter is now joining me! Her last final exam is two weeks before Christmas and she has no clinical rotations until January.

So here's the revised budget:

  • Accommodations: 1 OKW deluxe studio, 3 nights = 30 DVC points
  • Flights: 2 RT flights on SWA = $10 plus 2 Award tickets and 17639 RR points
  • Tickets: My PAP (already paid for) and daughter's 10-day no-expiry hopper with 6 remaining days (also paid for a long time ago)
  • Food: $173.60 in Disney GCs, $90 in Landry's GCs, breakfast items, fruit and some snacks to be packed in a suitcase, $200 cash
  • Misc. (because there always has to be money for "whatever"): $200 to cover cab fares, souvenirs and additional spending.
The OOP total rose to $410 because of the changes. Looks like I will have to move funds from the savings for my Fall 2014 trip to cover the added cost of dining for 2 and the additional days. But the good news is that I can swing this without incurring any debts! :woohoo:

Now if I can just convince myself to spend even more money on MVMCP tickets...

I wouldn't have gone for three nights - the air travel isn't worth it to me, but three I'd do.

It is great that you found a way to make it work. You will be glad that you were able to have this vacation with your daughter.

Could MVMCP be a gift for her?

that sounds like fun to have more time there and someone to enjoy it with!

The two of you can't eat for 3 days on just the money on the Disney and Landry GCs? When I went on my solo trip, I didn't spend more than $25 per day on food. You could use part of that $200 allocated for food for MVMCP tickets.

I was thinking the same thing.

Her birthday isn't until the spring and she has requested a tablet computer for Christmas. I wasn't planning on buying her anything else for the holidays since the tablet she wants is going to be pretty expensive on its own.

There's a difference between being able to get by on $25 pp per day and wanting to do that. I would much rather come home with money in my pocket than watch my pennies while I'm there. So, I think I'll keep the extra $200 in the food budget and wait to see if I can set aside the $120+ for the MVMCP tickets during the upcoming month.
