Hi all! I'm going to be in California from the 3rd until the 24th of January, my friend has an acting course from the 6th-8th and we decided to make a trip out of it. We are staying in LA from the 3rd till the 15th before coming down to Anaheim for Disneyland and I've been trying to think of things to do for the 3 days that she will be at her course and I will be on my own. I've seen on the Disneyland website that the 8th is the last day for the Paint the Night Parade which I have never seen and I was so sad when I realized that we would miss seeing it this trip as our first park day isn't until the 18th. I've just had the bright idea that I could make the trip down to Anaheim for 1 day to see Paint the Night and all of the other Christmas festivities as I've never been in the parks for Christmas. I thought I could stay the night in a hotel on Saturday so I can be at the parks bright and early for rope drop on Sunday. I was wondering if anyone would know roughly how much a taxi would cost from the Hilton at Universal (where we're staying for the first part of our trip in LA) to Disneyland. I need to be back at the Hotel for check out by 11am on Monday morning.

Uber estimate is $48-$64. I don't know if they do surge pricing that Saturday, but my guess is that you should plan on the upper price. Smart idea to make a night of it down there. You can probably Uber back Sunday night and save yourself an extra night's hotel rent.

Of the 3 days, Friday the 6th is probably the best day to go. The 8th will likely be very crowded. If you're starting from Universal, you could take the red line to Union Station and then take Amtrak or Metrolink to Anaheim (or Fullerton). The trip will take 2 - 2.5 hours, but if you're going the day before you have some extra time to travel.

Uber it. A taxi would be way too expensive! Also, does PTN run in the rain? If not, and if that's your whole reason for going, I would do the above suggestion and not get a hotel room, or book just a couple days out, or book something refundable. And buy your ticket day of. That way if you picked the 1 day it rains you're not out the money if you decide not to go.

Oh, I just realized that the 8th-20th is 13 days. OP, were you planning more than 3 park days with your friend? If you use your ticket on the 8th, and upgrade to add a day, it might not be valid by the end of your planned Disney trip. You might have to buy a 1 day ticket.

I use Uber's site to get estimates. I don't believe they account for the surge, because the estimate it gave me the other day was $8-12, and it was a 2x surge when I went to request later that night, and the estimate was $16.95, which was twice the low end of the estimate.

As far as getting back by Monday, are you staying in a hotel in Anaheim Sunday night too? If so, why not take all your luggage in case you don't make it back for check out, then you can just Uber or Lyft back to your Monday night hotel.
