We are trying to figure the cost of renting a car for a day while at Disney just to do a grocery run. I have heard of some cabs/taxis that will give you a 30 minute shopping window but how can I find the info on that? It would probably take us a bit longer that just 30 minutes for a grocery stop so I don't know if it would be cheaper to rent a car for the day?

I do not about garden grocer and shop to go but my son has autism and we need to stay Brand specific so they are an option for us.
Thanks!

WeGoShop.com is similar to GardenGrocer except that they will shop at the one store of your choice - so it's easier to stay brand-specific, especially it GG's brands aren't what you use.

Livery services (town car, limo, van) arranged in advance will often include a 30 minute stop at no extra charge. Taxis/cabs will NOT. They charge you by the eighth of a mile, plus idle time in traffic, plus wait time if you want to stop anywhere.

Is there a list of livery services that are good/reputable, etc anywhere on the boards?

Jenn, keep in mind that a 1-day car rental is 24-hours. If you rent it at 10am you have until 10am the next day to return it. You can cram a lot of other things into that time besides one grocery run, if you have the want or need to. (Sea World, Universal, outlet malls, etc) Just a thought.

As PP said you can use the 24 hour rental to do a lot of stuff. If you eat off property during that time period you can save enough money eating off property to pay for the rental car.
So I would rent the car. You can probably get a one day rental for $25-$30.

I would seriously consider WeGoShop for grocery delivery vs. renting a car to go yourself. Consider not only the expense, but the valuable vacation time lost in taking the time to rent/return the car, going to/from a store and the time it takes to shop.

I agree.

We're also brand specific because of food allergies and autism. We order from Garden Grocer. I'd take another look at them. If they don't have the brands you want you can call and talk to them to see if it's possible to get them. Or, you can use WeGoShop, specifying brands and make it clear that brand substitutions are not ok. What I like about Garden Grocer of WeGoShop is that I can see the specific items I want being added to my cart and I know that they'll be able to get those brands because they wouldn't list them on their site if they didn't know where to get them.

Have you looked into shipping yourself a box from home with the child's food? This past year I had one carry-on that had my ASD son's food in it. I even froze his favorite hot dogs and packed them!

A cab from OKW to the Walmart Super Center nearby cost us $40 round-trip in January. We didn't have a time limit, because we just got dropped off, did our shopping, then came back out to a couple of cabs waiting nearby when we were ready. Wegoshop is great because it saves me time on travel, shopping, etc., and they will stick to brands if they are available. A rental will cost $30-40 for a day, and very little gas if you are only going to a store close by, plus as PP said, you have it for 24 hours to eat offsite or do other things. It's really a personal choice - do you want to spend the time getting what you need, or do you want to pay someone else to do it? It's about the same cost no matter how you look at it, so it's really a matter of the time each one takes out of your vacation. :goodvibes
