This is our first cruise ever and we are so excited! Me, DH and DD (3) are looking forward to our first family vacation.
I appreciate all the great tips and information and don't feel like quite the neophyte I truly am.
Am curious...how would you recommend moving about with your KTTW card? On a lanyard? Fanny pack? Pockets?? dde09

The first year we did pockets; last year we did a lanyard and found it much easier (esp when leaving your room in something with no pockets lol) and less likely to misplace lol

also....

Reminder! DISboard meet in the lobby of the ship, on the first sea day at 2pm! See you all there!!

Oh, that's another thing. The power in the rooms on the Dream and Fantasy is run more like a European hotel - you need a card with that magnetic strip to turn on the lights and the AC in your room. It's right inside the doorway. Basically, the expectation is that you put your KTTW card in it when you arrive and take it with you when you leave. We've found it easier to use another card; like the one from your pre-hotel stay and just leave it in the thing. We didn't always leave the power on, but this way, we never had to worry about forgetting our KTTW card in the room.

Actually anything with or without a magnetic strip will work.

Oh goodie, I was wondering if we were doing this! I misread it and thought it was the first day lol I was thinking that would be a bit hectic, good thing i reread it! I look forward to meeting you all!

I always use my vera bradley cross body mini-hipster...... it's just big enough to put the KTTW card in the outside pocket. Sunscreen, a small camera and eyeglasses go inside, and it is still very light to carry.

Ehhh, isn't the whole idea behind this that the power shuts off when you leave the room? They are trying to save some power... Be a social and economic person and just turn off the power when you leave your room like a person who cares a little bit about the environment?
Yes, i know, i'm european and we do not share the american idea and obsession with air conditioning and being able to watch tv 24/7 and in every room. But the key card slot is put there for a very good reason, TURN OFF THE POWER WHEN YOU LEAVE THE ROOM!

Just in my pocket...and in the absence of a pocket...in the bra it goes!

TURN OFF THE POWER WHEN YOU LEAVE THE ROOM!

Always a good practice no matter where you are.

We leave our (dummy) card in the slot but just pull it up slightly when we leave our cabin.

Sound like a perfect way to do it!

Here is a question for anybody with ATT cellphones - has anyone confirmed fees (or no extra fees) for use in San Juan and St Thomas? I have no plans of turning my phone on, but we are traveling with my parents and my mom is that goes crazy if she hasn't checked in with all her kids at least every other day lol We all have iPhones on a 10GB share plan (not sure if that makes a difference or not!). I plan on calling/stopping in, but wanted to check with others on here as well.

Not ATT, but I did call to verify for US Cellular. The calls in San Juan and St. Thomas are $1.99 per minute, and text and data are free. For on the ship, it is voice service only, and it is $2.99 per minute.

I liked the lanyard last time and plan on doing that again. It is really easy to see if you have it or not (or to see if your spouse has his before going all the way down to get off on an island). Also, it was easy to keep DDs (who was 2 at the time) in there, too. Not everything I wear will have pockets (dresses, dress pants, etc.), so the lanyard worked in all cases. The only suggestion I would make is removing the lanyard in pictures where you don't want to see it. :thumbsup2
