OK...new question :goodvibes

What are you all thinking about wearing for formal night? Ballgown/tux, party dress/suit, blouse and slacks/button up shirt, "I don't do formal," etc, etc, etc. I know there are lots more options, but what are you guys thinking?

DD will be in either a Cinderella or Belle dress. DH will wear a suit with a tie that doesn't look horrible with blue and/or yellow depending on what DD decides. I am trying to find a long-ish black dress. I have a tea length, but would like to go just a step more formal with a bit more length.

Thanks for picking it up! I stopped when I had a couple of questions with no replies. Ha!

Probably... a little black dress. I have a couple, so I'll pick one and then pick one of my lace shawls that I've knit. Unless my husband won't wear a suit jacket, then we'll eat somewhere else! ;)

DH will wear a dress shirt and dress pants, DD a dress and me some sort of dress - both dresses will be short. Same sort of dress will be worn on semi-formal night as well.
We will be eating in the dining rooms. Doesn't matter that DH won't be wearing a suit/sport coat.

Ha! Don't tell my DH that this is optional. It is the ONLY time that I can get him in a suit. Same for Palo...it is required (wink, wink, nod, nod)

Hmmmm....what's the going rate for not telling other people's DH's about what is or is not required to be worn in the dining rooms/Palo/Remy?!? :rotfl: :rotfl2: :cool1: :drinking1

I am hoping to get a modcloth.com GC for my birthday...there is a great red dress I have my eye on. My little guy has a 3 piece suit I picked up...it is SOOO cute :goodvibes My little girl will be wearing one of a variety of dresses I got her.

I was at the bank drive through when I read this on my phone and busted up laughing. I'm certain the teller thinks I have lost it :rotfl2: :rotfl::lmao:

Cool story, bro time: On our RCI Voyager of the Seas (or, as the captain said "woyager of de sis"), my husband was TOTALLY gung ho about formal night. TOTALLY.

And then I realized that he had only packed sneakers and athletic socks and No. Dress. Shoes.

(Then, swear I tried all the pieces on at home, I had visible underwear issues with my dress. At that point, we put on shorts and went to the buffet, and called it a night)

This cruise? HE WILL HAVE DRESS SHOES. Maybe no suit coat, that's fine. BUT DARK SOCKS AND SHOES.

++++

Unrelated but I saw a sports medicine doctor today for my ankle. He's pretty sure I have a high ankle sprain, but I'm too recovered to know for 100% sure, not that it matters. He said a high ankle sprain is six weeks on crutches and that's where I'm at. He also thinks I have tendon damage. When I went to Dr. Google, I was amused to see that my husband had pointed THAT out. Anyway, I should be off crutches within the next couple of weeks. Huzzah! But I suspect if I do any traipsing on this cruise that I'll be in an ankle brace, but that's fine. May lead to some goofy tan lines. ;)

We just booked this cruise tonight! Change from the Mediterranean cruise in June... Am I crazy??!

Tell me about this Fish Extender thing. When we went on our last Disney cruise the kids saw them hanging around, but we weren't sure how to join in on the fun!

Hey guys just want to remind everyone that wants to be in the FE Group spaces are limited to get into group1. If you would like to sign up to be in the FE Group please send me a PM thank you, Thrillfan :cool1:

We saw this our last cruise! We'd love to join ... how do I go about that? And how does it work? I"m a newbie :) THanks!

Glad I was able to give you a good laugh at the bank. I'm sure you gave the teller something to talk about for a bit.

Too bad you were having wardrobe issues, you could have made your DH wear his sneakers with the formal night attire. :rotfl2:

Sorry about the ankle. DD & I have both been on cruises/vacations wearing some sort of foot or wrist brace. My biggest piece of advice - take off the brace before going thru security. Yup, I forgot to take off my wrist brace at Heathrow airport in London, of all places, and set off the alarm and we were already running late as they were trying to rush us thru to make our connection. I was totally embarrassed for doing that and never forgot to take it off again.

I have been enjoying this discussion. :)

We're currently in negotiations about suit vs. just a jacket for my husband. Hard to argue with the "we've got enough to pack anyway" point, so I think he'll be doing the dress pants and jacket/tie thing. DS will be in dress pants and a dress shirt - possibly with a tie - he's never worn one, and he seems keen, but there is a big difference between theory and practice... I will likely go with one black dress that will serve both nights. I kind of hate dressing up on vacation, but I think I can handle two nights. Don't worry - we're always neat, clean, presentable and following the dress code, but I don't want to "waste" vacation time getting ready for supper!

Oh, and colour coordination is just not within my powers. I aim for dressed, clean, pressed, and it takes all my energy to manage that. It's all about the sophistication in my house.

You are NOT alone. I have no regrets about skipping formal night with the wardrobe issues. None. I'd do it every time, but my husband insists...

...which makes it funnier that he forgot to bring nice shoes! ;)

I am glad that Disney only has one "formal" night. RCI had two. The first, we'd gone to a specialty restaurant, which was still dressy but not formal.

In the US - which wouldn't apply to Heathrow! - they cannot ask you to take off your brace, per TSA rules. When we flew in September, both times I just cuffed my pants so they could see the brace and it got tested for whatever each time and I was on my way. I'm hoping, but time will tell, that I won't need to wear it all the time by January!

I'm flying again in less than two weeks, but I suspect I'll still be wearing it then. 50/50 that I'll be off crutches and if I am, I'm not allowed to carry anything heavy and I'm traveling solo. My backpack is ALWAYS heavy, so I might end up with a wheelchair assist. Oh well; I'll just bring money for tipping.

I didn't need to wear my brace all the time and had every intention of taking it off to go thru security to speed up the process and just totally forgot. They clearly saw I was wearing it and had to scan it, but it held us up an extra minute or 2, which I was trying to avoid. It was just a good thing I spoke up and they took us to the front of the line, along with the rest of the people on our flight on the same connection. So it was definately more embarrassing than anything at that point.

You might as well go for the wheelchair assist for piece of mind and ease of maneuvering thru the airports.

Yeah. And I told one of my faculty recently (since August, there have been four of us on crutches) "is it really worth it to extend yourself in the airport? Wouldn't you rather save it for your destination rather than the travel?" Hahah. I am turning into a mom. Do moms take their own advice?!

However, I don't think I'll be in heels for formal night on our cruise. Oh well! I consider it an excuse to go shoe shopping. :)

Hi, I'm just joining, and I haven't read through the entire thread (yet). I was wondering if I can join in with the fish extender fun? Are there any groups still adding on people? Thanks! :wave2:
