1/2 on DDP - 1/2 not...

? for anyone who is pretty familiar with DDP, my in-laws have decided they really want to come with us, however they don't want to do the DDP. Therefore 3 rooms (11 total people) will be on the plan & 1 room (3 people) will not. So if I make ADR's for 14 people, do I tell them at time of making 3 aren't on the plan? Also how does that work for ordering at TS's, their bill will be separate, but then will they also get the auto 18% gratuity b/c the party total is 14??

You should tell them when booking, checking in, being seated, ordering that you are on the DDP. When ordering you should specify who is/isn't using ddp credits. Often even if this is only a party of 2 where 1 is and 1 isnt using ddp the 18% will automatically be added to the non ddp person. We dont know why but they seem to add the 18% to any out of pocket stuff when ddp is being used at the same table. Add to that the fact that you are a large party so it would be billed with the gratuity if all were paying non ddp you can almost be assured that it will be added on. Be sure to always check receipts to see if it has already been added many people have reported inadvertantly double tipping before they realized that the tip was automatically added.

I hope you made a separate room reservation for the group who are not getting the DDP because everyone on the same room reservation must get the DDP.

My family (12 people total) will be making the same trip. We will have 4 rooms at an AS resort. I was thinking of adding a DDP to one of the rooms (3 adults are going to be in the room) to share amongst us at dinner or lunchtime. As I have read in the posts in this dining area, we can share entrees if we are all at the table. I have also heard that we will be charged the 18% gratuity for our large party irregardless of who is on the plan and who isn't. I have also read that if we indeed are splitting entrees that we should give a couple bucks extra for each extra person that is splitting an entree. I hope this is all correct. My biggest thing is, is this frowned upon in "the land of a million dreams"? I hope not because it will help drastically help in our budget of food

You can't just add the DDP to your room. You have to have a separate reservation for that one room that is at rack rate and purchase tickets for each of the guests in the room. In other words , that room has be to a package and not just room only reservation.

Then when it comes to the DDP, it is not transferrable. Only the three people in the room with the DDP would be able to use it. I think you are going to have a lot of trouble trying to do what you want to do.

You'd be better off having one person get an AP and then purchasing the Disney Dining Experience Card to get 20% off on table service for up to ten people.

So you cannot share meals? I thought you could split dinner entrees because they have really large portions that anybody with a normal appetite couldn't possibly eat. I also was planning on reserving that room by itself and getting the other two on a different ressie. I mean if I can't do this then I won't, but I've read countless posts where everybody is sharing meals. So confused and so much info to absorb.

Sharing among your people on your reservation is not expressly forbidden. plan rules do state that you can't treat someone not on the plan.

No problem. All of this great information and so little time to take it all in. I probably won't talk them into the DDP. It looks like it will be a major hassle at the restaurants if we have one group on DDP and the rest paying OOP. Just too messy for a vacation at this point. Thanks to everyone!!!

It is absolutely not a problem to do what you want to do. If you are a party of 12 and the 3 of you on the dining plan order the full dining plan meal (appetizer, entree, desert, regular beverage), then the other 9 order just appetizers and drinks, and maybe one or two entrees, and pay out of pocket, there is NOTHING stating that you can't share the food on your table.

What you can't do is use more credits per meal than is on the room. For example you can't decide to treat yourself to table service every other day and use 6 credits for the 12 of you at one meal.

Of course, this only works at al a carte menu type places. Buffets everyone pays the same price.
