09/28/2002 Cruise

OOPs sent too early. Julie I know Horsham very well I swam at the officers pool at NAS Willow Grove since I was 2yo. Stationed at WG for my last 4 years of reserve duty and flew out of there also. I worked at Prudential (CAHO) when they first built it, I started up in Newark. I am suprised that all of us seem to have a significant other that was a little "anti-social" I think the whole thing is kinda funny. To the Guys give us somebody else to talk football (in season),hunting, cars, boats or politics and we will be happy as clams I expect ESPN will be full Sunday night for highlights. I know I will be there! And ladies, I love Ya'll , can talk about anything and for a long time, no disrespect intended better verbal skills thats all. Pluss we must all like to cruise like Disney and are part of a family an AMERICAN family enough to talk about I would say give our last year. I feel there is not much difference between all of us in our beliefs and wants and goals. Gang we are going to have a blast together :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: See Ya!

Here's my Riker report: I think he's doing really well considering that he cannot see. Ed (who you may recall was in England when Riker's sight finally gave out) thinks he is having a hard time of it. It is my opinion that it's Ed who is having a hard time. The first week Riker couldn't see was awful for me--I cried a lot. I guess it's Ed's turn to react now that he is home. However, in the big scheme of things, we are all doing GREAT.

Someone mentioned marking luggage: We always tie a bright ribbon on each bag to help somewhat. Last cruise we had one suitcase that almost fell apart. Bought a nice Mickey strap to wrap around it onboard ship. That probably won't be very distinctive on the Disney cruise, though.

I've enjoyed reading the threads that debate clothing suggestions for regular dining and formal nights. Put me on record for not caring at all what the rest of you are wearing. I will take no offense if you don't wear tuxes, gowns, suits & ties, etc. I do understand that Disney suggests that no shorts or jeans should be worn in the dining rooms at dinner. So I do follow that suggestion (except for tropical/Mexican night). But I really, really don't want to worry about what everyone else does. Not my job. Anybody else want to join this debate?

Karen

Karen, I promise to wear clothes when we dine together! That's as far as I'll promise anything!;) (I will dress appropriate but I'll leave the family jewels home this time around!)

"Gochies" - you definitely are Slavic, Cathy! I haven't heard that from anyone but my Mom in a long, long time! Personally, I take old stuff and throw it out to make room for the souveniers. But I'm a little weird anyway!

Hello all

thesorcerer1 - you started in the lovely city of Newark - I get to visit that place sometimes twice a month - perks of the job- LOL.

Thanks for making me feel so much better that I am not the only one with a DH like that. By the way - any DH's that discuss Baseball, Football, and Golf <no excursions puhleese> - I have one here that will open up to any conversations like that.

Rikersmom - I agree with the dressing for the dinners. What I wear to work is business attire - but good enough to not look to businessy at dinner. I was going to sweat it and buy something - but I looked through my closet and thought - no I just can't. DH was going to pack his sorta kinda "GoodFellas" suit, but we nixed it - he has an alternate suit in place.

DonnaMD - I <tenatively> decided to go to Mr. Sanchos - did not tell DH yet. It is just not as much hustle and bustle as Playa Sol.

@Goofynut - I know what you mean - bought the pack the other night

Take Care - dinner time

Oh Gosh! Ditto here too. I forgot the word even existed!!! The memories are flooding back!!

Lurker is now leaving the thread.....

Roemary my dear mother always told me"Be sure you have on clean underwear when you leave the house. You might get into an accident and you need clean ones on." Hated to tell her that if I get into an accident they sure won't be clean afterward:p

I am too old for horseback riding Jul. It would take a crane to put me up there and another one to get me off;)

Called a few people tonight just to touch base and to say hello.

Oh my dad is coming home tomorrow and that is good news for us. Since he lives on a hill I am thinking about put one of those harnesses on him like the toddlers wear . That way he won't get too far down the drive. Might even have to attach a deep sea reel so that I can reel him back in:p Just kidding:bounce:

I love Alaska, and it has always been good to me. But I can do HEAT too. Chrystina lives in Alabama. Will be there in Sep-Oct and probably again at Christmas-New Year's (Think we are going to WDW for Xmas - again). Alabama does winter right!
Not the long dark cold of the Far North. Fortunately, I have tentatively scheduled going to Hawaii in Oct-Nov timeframe, so winter shouldn't be too long this year. Bad news is I know I have to be in Fairbanks in February - Have you ever felt -40! Not nice!
Especially when that is in the heat of the day ... Otherwise - I love Alaska - Good place to work during the week and great place to play during the weekend

Only place I have been that could compare was New Zealand. Chrystina and I bicycled the length of NZ for our honeymoon. Spent about 6-8 weeks doing that - Just too much fun!!!

God is much too good to this fat old boy!!!

@Goofynut - Fishing off the Magic will work for me. I can probably rig up a heavy enough weight to reach the bottom but the drift may be a little too difficult to handle. Plus If it is heavy enough to reach the bottom, I know I will need help reeling it back in!

Have not done much bass-fishing and have never been successful except with a flyrod - using my favorite salmon fly which is a "purple egg-sucking leech". Ain't that a name!!!?

Have thougt about fishing at Disney Cay BUT ... don't really care for bottom fishing except for halibut - MORE MEAT!!!

Maybe all the DH's will go hit golf balls off the rear deck!!! Big wide open fairway but must use a floating golf ball. Ball really goes a LONG way too - Hardly ever hit it into the woods either!!! Not sure MAGIC does that - Environment! - Good thing ...

Disvaclub92 - Tell DH - Golf okay, Not much at other pro sports. Eshannon - Tell Bill come talk to me - My friends describe me as a "cuddly grizzly bear kinda guy"

Thought about it ...
Especially like Yukon & British Columbia too ...
New England, especially in the fall ...
All the coastal states and Canadian provinces ...
Everything in between ....
Central & South America ... Like that too ...

Don't like commuting ... As a matter of fact, HATE IT!
Travel 5 miles to work --- TOO FAR!!!

Love wandering ways ... of my own choosing!!

Ask Chrystina - will travel forever to fish/golf/play but don't ask me to go to Wal-Mart --- TOO FAR, TOO CROWDED!!!

Have no idea what started that but it felt GOOD ...

See ya

Hope that everyone has a nice day! Alternator went out on my pickup yesterday so it is going in the shop today. Would have changed it myself, but it is covered under an extended warranty.

Looks like another hurricane is in the atlantic. Thank goodness it is nowhere near the magic or wonder's route. Mike

Hi everyone!

Kids go back to school soon and it's time to start packing for the cruise. I think we are pretty much set. I bought swimsuits at Kohls on clearance for the girls, great prices. I have decided to use the "formal" wear we already have. Hopefully, whoever shrunk these clothes of mine will come back during the night and unshrink them. LOL Thank goodness for Lycra!

We still are undecided on Cozumel. After the fiasco in attempting to book on our own through Dophin Discovery, we haven't found anything else.

DH mentioned wanting to have brunch at Palos the day we arrive in Key West. I'm thinking he wants to be alone and play footsies. If so, I suppose we won't make the group one. I'll know more later.

I accidentally deleted the last list, if anyone has one please e-mail me one. Thank you!

My girls are loving e-mailing with the other young girls. They are so excited!

Papa, what a bummer on the Alternator. Thank goodness it was covered by the warranty. Do you, by chance, drive a Chevy? Mine went out and my Suburban is only 2 years old.

Looking forward to meeting everyone soon.

Vonda

Hi everyone,

It is another beautiful day in PA. Only 54 this morning. What a change from last week.

Jul and George--- My DH loves "Lee Subs" that is right across the street from Willow Grove NAS. On our hockey trips to Face Off Circle we would always stop there for hoagies. He was so upset when they were closed after the fire. This past Feb, we stopped to get them to go as it was snowing. However, that was going to be our last trip that way since DS is now finished with youth travel hockey, so my DH didn't care if it was a blizzard he was getting his hoagie.

Karen-- One of my dogs years ago (cocker spaniel Prince) went blind and was hard of hearing. We knew he was going blind and one night I left him out (yard was fenced in) and when he didn't come back to the door, I found him sitting in front of the shed which had a concrete slab just like the patio. After getting him back in the house I realized that he had gone completely blind. However, he did really well after getting adjusted. He had a route around the back yard that he always did and after completing it would be back at the back door. I just never changed the furniture in the house, so he wouldn't get mixed up. He lived for 2 years after going blind. Dogs are very adaptable. I'm sure with all the love that Riker is getting he will do just fine.

Power Alaska---One of the girls at work just came back from a sea kayaking trip in Alaska. The pictures she had were beautiful. I can see why you love it there. However, I plan to do the cruise no kayaking for me.

Mike-- Hope Dad continues to do well. Sorry about you car. So far this week cars in our house have needed new AC fan, new tires, brakes and one is getting inspected Friday so heavens know what that will need. We are trying to get both of the DS's cars fixed up before they go back to college. Only 17 more days till DS #2 leaves and 18 days until DS #1 leaves.

Donna-- I may be interested in the gym. I usually walk 2-3 miles on deck 4 in the morning, but was interested in going to gym just never made it there. They had a class on tightening AB, thigh, buns thought that could be a challenge for them to see if they could tighten mine up. It's hard to fight gravity as you get older. The pull downward is greater than upward and after all these years things do sag so maybe DCL with that pixie dust can fix it. ONe can always dream.

Well, hope everyone is having a good day. I'm at work so I better get to work.

Nancy

Allrighty ... We are really getting into this DIS CRUISEAR aren't we. I can tell, seems a lot of us can relate to others and won't it be nice to see a face that goes with the name (Hope my name tags will also make that easier!)

First .. :( :( :( KATHY, so sorry I missed wishing you a Happy Birthday on the First. Senior Moment or should I say day! Hope it was Happy and Mike got you what you wanted.

Mike ... Hope Dad got home OK today. Too funny about the harness - check with rehab, maybe they can help you out there.
Hope your truck get's it alternator fixed up real soon.

Rae ... LMAO about taking the old gotchies and just throwing them out, actually that's a real good idea - considering I have to take enough for 17 days.

Mike ... Don't worry, the ambulance people never really talk about your unmentionables unless they are, shall we say very unusual. Have a funny story about one call I had - ask me on the cruise!

Donna & Jul ... I'm also thinking about Mr Sanchos in Cozumel. Maybe we can get one big van/taxi and save even more $. Last year we paired up with Anja & Eric in St Maarten and it worked out very well for us. You might also want to see if you can grab any $ store floats to take along. They usually only take mere minutes to blow up and at the end of the day just find some sad kid on the beach and give it to them ... it them turns into a RAK!

George ... Sneaker thingy must be a hubby thing, Art does the same thing - you are not alone!

Jul ... "Goodfellow's Suit" tooooooo funny. Guess it's safe to say your hubby will be in a suit for formal night too!

Dennis ... Have an idea - Why dosen't Disney have their bakers make some reallllllllly hard golf balls out of bread for wacking off of the ship? It would be fun for both the people and the fish that can then eat them.

Well enough Cruise Dreaming --- gotta get back to work ....

Have a Mickey Day!

DISNEY TRIVIA --- Are Mickey & Minnie Mouse married or brother and sister? Same last name.... Donald & Daisy Duck ...

Is Goofy the first or last name?

If we want to try for winning a cruise (like some lucky DIS Cruisears) at Mousekateer Game we need to bone up on our trivia.

I finally decided that I am going to have to do what Mary did and get a notebook to keep some notes in. I am loving reading all of these replies, but my poor addled brain is having the hardest time keeping track of who is who.

Faces do make things so much easier.

Today my older DD is home from camp with a stomach ache. She is rather whiny and is laying on the couch "convalesing!"

Yesterday I had the tummie ache, but as the mommy I whine far less.

It sure is Vonda, a 99 s-10 extended cab. Every chevy pickup and blazer the flipping seat recliner handle has broken. Must be made out of pot metal or something:mad:

Went and picked up my dad and brought him home this morning. Even made it to the ymca for a little bit of exercise:eek:

I was so tired I had to stop by the greek deli and get a gyro just to settle my nerves and aching muscles.:bounce: :bounce:

Mike

Actually, he just told me he doesn't know how to take it off. Can you turn your puters' down ;-) Elaine. He wants to join in on our posts. He will post under dopeyfan. :Pinkbounc
