Alaska synopsis as follows: Catch & release all rainbow trout, grayling, dolly varden, northen pike, etc. Catch & eat halibut, silver salmon, red salmon, and king salmon that are fresh and have not yet "turned" Release pinks & chums. My rule of conservation and sustainment - keep only that which you plan to eat, release all the others or donate to folks with large families.
Use spincast and/or flyfish but prefer flyfishing and ultralight spinning rods. What I use depends on whether we are fishing from a boat, raft, float tube, or wading. Generally, only thing that I have not caught on a flyrod is a halibut. Difficut to sink the fly down into 200-250 feet of water!!! Also difficult to hang onto halibut greater than 100#'s with that itsy bitsy hook & fly.
