09/28/2002 Cruise

Nancy --- If you want to see who was on Cruisetoberfest I, I still have my "list" in my DIS Book.

Dennis ... What kind of fishing do you do? Catch & release or Catch & eat; fly fish or spin cast; from shore or from a boat?
Just wondering.

:bounce: Anyone else into looking for Hidden Mickeys? Last year I did up a little book of the ones supposed to be on the Magic. It's kind of fun to search for the reported ones and to find "new" ones.

Today it is beautiful here ... finally the heat wave broke and it is about 20 degrees cooler (70's not 90's). If we would just get some rain for my tumbleweed front yard. My veggies are suffering this year too. Cukes dried up but I'm still holding out hope for the tomatoes. Nothing like fresh picked veggies ... unless of course you are on the ship and they have that big brown veggie (choco....) done up in so many wonderful ways!

Let's all send some pixie dust to the co-joined twins that were just seperated ... God Bless them!

Check back later ....

As I have said before, a bad day ANYWHERE is better than the best day I've had in Indiana so far.
(Obviously, NOT a native!)

Put me back along the Hudson River with my fellow New Yorkers!
Now that's the only thing better than a Disney cruise!

Rae
(missing New York more each day, even after all these years away)
:(

P.S.
Goofynut - you are soooo cool for keeping that kind of information! And I thought I was pretty organized - I am humbled!

Papa--I guess we have a long way to go to catch up and pass that many postings and have to find the rest of the 9/28 cruisers.

Cathy--My you are so organized and to keep it for a year very inpressive. So for our current group if I need any information you are the one that I come to first. How many were with Cruisetoberfest that are cruising with us this year? I know some are already planning for next October.

Took off early to enjoy the beautiful day. So leaving the computer for awhile.

Nancy

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

I need some critical information...how do they decide what NFL games are going to be shown in the ESPN Skybox? Just wondering if I am going to have to find a 'Packer Bar" in Key West or not. I managed to find in in Tokyo last October so Key West should not be too hard.

Also I think we are staying at the Raddison across from the terminal on Friiday night. Have to check with Mrs Badgerboy to be sure however.

Welcome Badgerboy and family/friends/parents!I posted an update for another new cruiser last night. It has a re-cap of all our plans for the group. You can find it on page 99.

Ave e-mailed me today...she did NOT get the upgrade, her room assignment is back to her original room:(

Rae...I know what you mean about missing NY. I am so glad I have family there so I can go visit! My brother sent me a wonderful essay about being a "New Yorker" and if I can get it agin I will forward it to you. It was lost in my resent hard drive melt down:(

Third cruise for our family. I will NOT be adding this info to the List! The reason is simple, I can't figure out how to change the format!I used a pre-made one from last year, sent to me by Viking(Eric). At the rate this group is growing we will be 4 pages long pretty soon! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Badgerboy, any nurses in your group?I think we are up to 6!!

Cathy...we love Hidden Mickeys. I think I still have last years book you made!

Gotta take the kids to school tonight, to meet the teachers! They start back this Monday!Anyboby seen the Staples commerical with the man dancing to the song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"? To funny!!!LOL

I'm almost embarrassed to admit it: This will be our sixth Disney Cruise. (If I knew a way to print "sixth" in tiny letters, I would!)

Keep in mind that I do work at a Disney Store. Our first cruise was a CM deal at a great rate for four nights on the Magic--this was before they started 7-night cruises. It was our first cruise EVER, and we were hooked. The rest were all 7-night Magic cruises--two of them were as CM's where you don't know what type of cabin you will get. One was using DVC points. The others were booked just like everyone else. That's what the 9/28 cruise is--we're regular cruisers. There are only a few rules for CM's--neither of us is allowed to play "Mouseketeer"--but since we're not cruising as CM's, that's the only restriction I can think of.

I think it'll be fun to try some new ports of call. We're not big on excursions. Ed always says that he doesn't care where we are--being on the ship is fine by him.

My next big hope is to take a cruise with our two grown sons. We don't see them very often, so I think it'd be nice to spend some time together relaxing.

I plan to try my luck at the tee-shirts tomorrow.

Karen

Welcome to all the new crew and hello to all the vet's. It was a wonderful day up in Pa. today! Finally a bright clear cooler day with little humidity. I got to cut all the weeds that have continued to grow all through the last couple of weeks. Not a drop of rain that the weather forcasters ( those guys that steal a lot of money to be wrong 95% of the time) predicted. This will be our third trip a previous 4 day in 1998 on the Magic, their 8th cruise, and a 3 day on the Wonder in 2000. Loved them so much had to book one for the week. First two were test's since we have never been on a cruise ship before. Well time to start the grill and burn something. Anything we can do to help the newbies please contact us via PM or at geojeffers@aol.com. See Ya! Barbara and George:earsgirl: :earsboy:

Twinave(mary) there is the neatest pin and story about the starfish. If you put starfish pin on your search engine it should come up straight away. Really cool story about the starfish and a man who is throwing them all back in the water. Someone asks him why he is doing it because there are too many to save and he says he made a difference in the one he just threw. Anyway, it is a nice story and a nice pin.

We are looking forward to the beachtowel and pins. it is our second cruise. First one was Feb 28th on Magic.

Welcome badgerboy. OUr son just turned 11 and will be on the cruise with us. If your son wants to email him (William) they could kindof meet ahead of time. ;-)

Happy Day all Elaine

I have a just turned 10 year old dd an almost 9 year old dd that would love to correspond with other girls their age.

Vonda

Hi all!

I'm just having trouble getting Disney magic. I'm having trouble getting any kind of magic these days.

I don't want to go into details, but my son's summer camp did something horrid and we ended up pulling him for his safety. I've spent the last few days in a fog. Please don't forget about me. I keep lurking even if I don't post a lot. This summer has just been too hard.

SEND PD ASAP please.

Tiiiigergirl,

Sending buckets full of PD your way. I, too, have had a rough week. On my way to an unexpected root canal, the alternator went out on my 2 year old suburban. After having it towed and renting a car, I was able to still make it to my appointment, what a stressful day. The next day the timer went out on my dryer. And yesterday my family doctor thought I should get an abdominal ultrasound for stomach trouble that won't go away. She's thinking gallbladder.

After all this is over, I will definitely need the Magic also.

Vonda

Welcome Badgerboy!!! I'm so glad to find another Packer fan!! My son is named after Brett Favre--a good trick since my husband is a Lion's fan (one of the few). I think I read somewhere that they only show the ESPN games in the skybox, but I could be completely wrong. We may both be looking for a Packer bar in Key West. We play Carolina that day. Let me know if you find something else out.

Vonda- My daughter just turned 10. Send me a PM and we will get their email addresses exchanged.

Cooler here today also.

Kimber

The next version of the LIST is in your mailboxes.

Shelly, lots of PD your way. I hope DS is OK!It's awful when the people you trust to care for your child, do not do their job. Add that to the "Mommy Guilt" we working moms feel for being away from the child and it's REALLY AWFUL!

VondaP...I think I would have taken that as a sign that God did not want me to have a root canal!LOL!

TiiiigerGirl: tons of pixie dust heading your way, may want to get out the snow shovel! Hope everything works out OK.
Welcome to all our new friends.
Funny story: DH was saying that he was not sure about all this Internet stuff, after all, who are all these people? Then I pointed out that on a cruise you are going to be eating, beaching, boating, touring, swimming, and partying with a bunch of people you never met. Why not do all these things with people you have "sort of" met? I ALMOST saw the light bulb go on over his head. ;) Got to run, dinner is waiting. Ave'

TwinAve, you bring up a good point. My DH is, how do I say this nicely, antisocial.

Maybe I can use your tack with him and get him to loosen up about it!

Since we are supposed to introduce ourselves...

DH is from Edmonton, Canada, but was moved down here to So. Cal when he was three. I've been here my whole life. My DD was even born in the same hospital as me and her pediatrician was my pediatrician and GP my whole life!

Kim in So. Cal.:Pinkbounc

Dear Shelly--I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles. I'm sure that you handled everything perfectly.

Vonda--Your story reminds me of the rule: Never, never ask "What else can go wrong?" for you will surely get an answer.

Happy thoughts to you both--let's hope for a better tomorrow.

Karen

Shelly and Vonda-- Pixie Dust to both of you and hope things are on the upswing for both of you.

Karen--So far you are the veteren cruiser with this being your 6th cruise. That is so great that you have been able to take all those cruises.

George--I'm glad we are not the only one's that have weeds growing up in the middle of the straw. Sometime this week, we need to get out and mow them down before the next heat wave.

Ave---Sorry to hear you lost your upgrade. I still would buy those lottery tickets.

Kim a native Californian. Isn't that as rare as a native Floridan? Several other wifes have commented about their husbands so he probably will fit in very nicely. I think alot of men aren't as chatty as us women, but when they get around a group of men they always find something to talk about. I'm always amazed how much my husband will talk around other people. Usually around the house he is pretty quiet. Or it is that he can't get a work in because I'm always talking.

Thanks Mary for the update list and to ever who discovered that I was missing. I printed it out and didn't even notice I wasn't on it.

Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow. One more day closer to cruising.

Nancy

Shelly and Vonda - pd for both of you. u girls need a vacation - now -;)

Here are the facts about us.

Jul - born and raised in Horsham PA. Still reside there. Work at Prudential Financial - thesorcerer1 - live just a few miles from you.

Bill - born in Abington, PA and lived in Warminster all his life until marrying me in '93 and moved to Horsham.

I have to admit - DH is feeling a little weird about me making friends on the cruise before the cruise.

PS. I will not call DCL again - tired of getting diff info each time I call.

Night all.

Sending tons of Pixie Dust to Shelly and Vonda! I hope that things get better for both of you.

For me, it's my mother who is the leering one. She's always one of those protective mother's. It doesn't matter that I am 38! But she is getting used to my involvement with the DIS. I think she worries that someone might get mad at me since I am a Moderator here. When I was first a moderator here I had a "mod meet" at my house. My mother was so worried that I was having strangers to my home. Then I went to a party for Moderators. I shared a hotel room with another female moderator. We had never met before, but we corresponded and spoke on the phone. We discovered that we were similar enough to get along well. We had a great time and ended up being friends.

My general feeling is "how bad can people who like Disney be after all?"

Just a note to Rellingtwin --I was left off the most recent version of the list. Oops! :D

Last year before our cruise DH was under the impression at first, that I was simply doing research, and for the most part he was correct. Then I e-mailed a few people on the "Who's Cruising List" and he was ok with that. THEN things really started going and I was on the DIS Board everynight!I started saying things like, "we are having T-shirts made" and "we are meeting at the Radisson" and he asked what the heck was going on???!!!You don't KNOW these people!!
Well, he indulged me and even joined in on a few "Cruise Chats". After meeting a few cruisers at the Radisson, he really warmed up to the idea ("hey, they are nice people")
By the end of the cruise he told me it was the best vacation we ever had. Everywhere we went we were saying hello to others, as we went to shows, walked the deck ect.
I think he thought we would be obligated to spend time, make small talk ect with everyone. And that somehow it would "take away" from our family time.
Such was NOT the case at all. Like Ave said, you ARE going to be with a shipload of stangers, why not "know" a few before leaving home.
An added advantage for us parents, is all the extra sets of eyes, watching out for the kids. One night while getting ready for dinner, the phone in our cabin rang. It was TuliRose (fellow DIS cruiser) telling me that my kids were up on deck 10! They were supposed to be waiting for us at the elevator lobby!!She promptly sent them back down to us!
So tell your spouses, RELAX! There is not a single Ax murderer among us;) Just some regular people who Love Disney, cruising and the internet!
